In the first message to Carol, Davis Taffler said the signal could have been repeating for all of human history for all they knew.

An implication here is that beings that far away are either constructed biologically the same way humans are, or somehow knew how life on earth is/would be constructed.   Or took a hell of a guess.

I don’t understand why the virus doesn’t affect pets? Somehow the aliens made it only effect human dna?

Except for the rat who started it all.

And the wolves who seemed to have their behavior scripted.

Same way some animals are only carriers for viruses, or that some animal viruses can’t infect humans.

and those rats could have been humanized as some lab rodents are in similar circumstances of lack of cross reactivity.

Watching her get Zosia to focus on using "I" and thinking and talking about herself and her individual interests made me theorize that this is how they could recover people. Appeal to that one person as an individual and somehow "awaken" them enough that they break through and somehow reject the virus alien thing.

Of course that might take a little while.

Her making the first move on Carol could be an indicator. That seemed off brand for the hive to initiate the action.

Or….. is it a sign the Hive has become more aggressive in their pursuit of turning Carol?  Aggression is not a trait they have shown and seems at odds with their actions/mantra to date.

It might be that simple. But for as well thought out we know this show is I hope there is a better answer then that (and maybe plays into free will/what it means to be human).

How would I know it doesn’t affect pets? They said so in the last episode.

Shit, missed that. I just wouldn’t think it would affect them because they aren’t intelligent.

So sounds like there will be at least 4 seasons and season 2 won’t be out until late 2027 at the earliest.   I’m already conditioning myself for disappointment tomorrow night, in terms of the show moving very far forward.

Based on the stills they released, it should be a pretty wild episode.

So

Spoiler

They can't take her stem cells without her permission, but they can take them from her frozen eggs? These aliens are not logically consistent. Either way you're taking them without her permission.

Excellent ending that I did not see coming.

This show is great. And I can’t really even explain why. I got one of my neighbors to watch it and he thinks it’s boring.

Agreed the wait for season two is going to suck.

Team Manousos.  Although it seems he'd be better off going to Monterrey Tech or somewhere if he wanted to learn electrical engineering.

Carol is so pussywhipped.  Such a disappointment.

Soft GIF

I don't trust that she's really going to turn even now.

Anyway, really great finale and great season.  I didn't know how much I'd love Gilligan going back into scifi.

And further….

Spoiler

Why didn’t she just ask for them back? They will give her anything to keep her happy right, even a bomb?

Or she will just get super angry until they do….

They are the apples.  They have fallen from the tree, so are free to be taken and used

That opening scene was really good.  The others sent that entire village there to work on that girl and convince her to give in.  Then as soon as she does, they're all gone and she may never see them again.  I felt bad for that goat kid too.

The opening scene was heartbreaking from "will it hurt" to the goat. Damn. Perfect way to set the stage for Zosia's trying to woo Carol.

"Send me another" was so good.

Love the characters and concept but was extremely weak overall for a season 1. Feels like 2-3 episodes worth of plot/story and the rest was filler/indulgence. Like he got the green light but only had a short story to draw from. Can’t even use the character development excuse. There was none.

Closest thing to 25 episode LOST season one that I can remember. Great story and characters etc but a struggle to fill the required episodes.

Now we wait two years for season 2 lmao.

I was really hoping that Manousos was going to turn Rick. He said he learned a lot but the audience didn’t really learn anything except that Manousos thinks he can turn them by upsetting them and then playing that signal.

A big 'ole "meh" to the season finale.  Although I'm sure we'll have the Gilligan fans telling us how we just don't understand his genius and all will be reveled in time.

This season we got some good stuff:

  • An amazing high concept.  The opener was strong.
  • Great world-development, you can see the budget they put into this thing in locations, equipment, people
  • An interesting main character

And a shit-ton of not good stuff:

  • Multiple hours devoted to character "development" where the characters don't actually develop and grow: Manu started as a hard ass and still is, Carol's development was she started out angry and lonely and then she got more angry and lonely, then took a hypocritical turn by turning a blind eye to the hive's nature and doing exactly what she bitches at Laxmi for doing with her kid.  In the end she ends up exactly back where she left off in S01E02, wanting to save the world again.  We basically looped around in the cul-de-sac of Carol's mind for a season, celebrate Vince's genius!
  • Plurb1us is allergic to plot advancement.  Once the hive took over, we got an entire season only to uncover a few rules of the world: they can't lie, they can't kill (except through starvation?), they can't convert without consent (until they do?), and the radio waves have something to do with something.

And some WTF stuff:

  • WTF is a nuke going to do?  If I blow up a single fire ant pile in my yard there are a million more around the world still...
  • The hive's logical inconsistencies: you can't pick an apple but you can let millions of individuals starve.   You can't "keep" animals but you think that kid goat you freed is going to fare better in the wild?  You can't lie but you can lie via omission (multiple instances of Zosia doing this), "we can't turn you without your consent and value you as an individual" vs. "we're going to spray chemtrails of our virus on everyone without their consent to join them"

Also my prediction from pages back are holding up so far:

They are dragging this too much.  We get it, humanity is cooked, Carol is lonely AF to go along with being miserable (a character trait), and Manu from south america is a hardcore MF.  We also know what's going to happen in S1:

  • Manu will go thru trials and tribulations and eventually link up with Carol (OMG a human connection with someone who has the same core belief like I do that this is all wrong!)
  • They'll set off on their cure journey

S1 will end here somewhere, S2...

  • Multiple advances and setbacks on the cure journey
  • Eventually they figure out how to turn a single person back, probably an actual scientist
  • The hive shows signs of getting more adversarial

S2 ends around here, S3...

  • The hive converts Manu, who we now love, Carol has to do a thing to bring him back
  • Reveal of the ticking time bomb for the series end in S4: e.g. the mothership is coming, or the food sitatution is so critical 99% of humans will die in 6 months, it doesnt' matter what it is they will just need something
  • Hive and Carol's team realize they have area of cooperation and reluctantly work together on a thing while simultaneously and secretly working thier own plans
  • Ominous closing shot of the whatever the ticking clock is counting ever downward

S3 ends around here, S4...

  • Final sprint to the mass cure
  • Surprise: Hive finally figures out how to easily convert Carol!
  • They give her a choice and it's F-no
  • They decide that their imperative overrides that choice and give her one more week to enjoy autonomy before conversion
  • Carol and her ragtag team finally crack the code on a COVID-like airspread virus to reverse the hive and set it to go off...
  • ...but Carol's time runs out and she gets converted!  Too bad the clock is already ticking on her team's cure virus release
  • Cure virus hits, people start to get converted back, chaos ensues (OMG humanity is so bad and life was so better before!), The Others have their "I told you so moment," more people die but the cure is spreading
  • The script flips and now it's the Hive that's going into hiding to prevent their conversion back
  • Series ends with the final pocket of the Hive sealed up in a bio-research facility where they can filter the air.  Carol talks to her homegirl across the glass and the Hive pleads for mercy/we were just trying to do the right thing/let us make our own choice, whatever.
  • Series ends on Carol's hand hovering over the button to push the cure virus into lab with the final group of Hive ...does she push it and eradicate their species?  Or not?  Oh, so mysterious!  Fans of the show in outrage over inconclusive ending and demand S5.

Will I watch S2, hell yes, I'm a sicko.  But S1 was kinda a letdown after the first few episodes, at least for me it felt like a slog waiting for a payoff that never arrived.

This isn’t a thing. They turned billions without consent.  But they won’t take a piece of you without consent, like they won’t take an apple off of a tree.
