You really think this statement bolsters your argument?

Do you really think it doesn't? Because really you don't understand the argument or you are just done at loss record.

Head to head should mean more on rankings. Vanderbilt and OU were bitch slapped by the Longhorns. Vandy and OU should never be ranked higher than Texas where a measure is needed to decide who is better. It was decided on the field.
A one game difference in record is not the same as a 6 game record differential when comparing Texas to Florida.  Maybe we should not be in the playoffs, but neither should Vandy nor OU.   They should both be behind Texas. I believe ND being over Miami is bullshit too. They pulled this shit when we lost to Tech but beat OU. It was bullshit then and it is bullshit now.

Head to head only works when comparing 2 teams in a bubble like the 2008 Big 12 title situation. It doesnt work here.

We beat OU. OU beat Alabama. Alabama beat Georgia. Georgia beat us.

There's no way to head to head all of that.

That's why you look at overall resume and we looked bad for large stretches of the season. Our best bet to make the playoffs was to only lose 2 games this season. Whether that means not failing to show up at Florida or being smarter and scheduling Northwestern instead of OSU for game 1.

Ok so we don't make the playoff. In what world does Vandy and OU look better  than Texas when they got bitch slapped on the field?  Also, how is comparing Texas entering a playoff versus Vandy or OU any different than Texas, Tech, and OU? With the exception of course that we beat both teams and Tech and Texas and OU took turns losing.

This is so absurdly fucking stupid.

Texas is #3 or #4 at BEST after SHSU if they played a shit game and beat a bad rice 21-14 or whatever bullshit that first yips team would have done.

Then #4 instead of #9 (they lost ranking even though they weren't losing for all of you dipshits that don't remember) losing to an unranked dogshit Florida team would have dropped to AT LEAST #21. Then after that following it up by beating a top 10 OU gets you back respectable. Then shitting the bed and winning in OT and escaping the gauntlet of the basement dwellers of the SEC. Keeps you hovering around top 10 about where they were anyway against Georgia. Then they got fuckstomped and run out of the god damned stadium. It wasn't a one possession game. It wasn't a last minute loss. It was a 4 score fucking blowout.

They are exactly where they would be with a dogshit win vs a 7 point loss to #1 OSU.

Stop being an idiot.

So a currently 9-2 Texas would be ranked behind OU and Vandy teams that Texas beat?  Really?

We don't miss out on the CFP because of Florida.

We miss out because not only did we lose to Florida (a very dangerous team on a well-coached day)...

...but we also looked like SHIT in multiple wins.
Nobody knows what to expect from us. Either our Offense looks good and defense sucks, or our defense sucks and offense looks good.

Vegas wouldn't know what to do with us.

If the Georgia and Vandy 4th quarters were a little different, we might get in.

If the Kentucky and Mississippi wins were more convincing, we might get in.

But despite winning most of our games, we've looked like dog turd in the majority of our wins.

It'll be a small miracle if we get in.

OU’s looked like an absolute shit in multiple wins too…

Another option would have been to show up in Columbus and not look like a pop warner offense and win the game.

And another option is to just not fucking play them.

Like, I love those games...it's really cool shit to play OSU and Michigan and ND and Bama home and road.

But in the current playoff focused college football world...it simple doesn't make any sense to, since playing in those games doesn't give you much boost and can only HURT you by losing.

The playoffs are littered with teams who didn't play anyone and will skate by regardless.

And the Florida loss, bad as it is, wouldn't keep 10-2 Texas out of the playoffs...hell they'd probably be in line for a Home game.  They HAD to play Florida. They didn't have to play OSU.

Did you look up Bamas resume? They have a win vs Georgia and didnt lose by 4 scores to OU 2 weeks ago. Their FPI is #6 and ours is #12. Beating Michigan state doesn't change that much.

The committee doesn't care about a&m and if we win Friday they will drop like a rock.

No matter the outcomes this weekend we have a better resume on the difficulty end of our schedule.  Bama cannot have more games against top 5, top 10 or top 15 opponents than us. I don’t think it’s possible they match us when considering home, road or neutral.

The FSU and UF losses are very similar on the pitiful scale.

In the Georgia OU, Bama, Texas quartet, Bsma got a home and lost.  The only home loss of the four.  Texas and OU did not get a home game.

Bama never had two road games in a row.  We had 4 of 5 and 42 days between home games.  If strength of schedule, FPI, FEI doesn’t consider that element, it is lacking and needs to be introduced into the discussion accordingly.

Bama has 7 home games.  We have 6.  You’re basically saying their road wins over Mizzou and South Carolina are massively more impressive than our road wins over Kentucky and MSU.  Keeping in mind that our two games were the 3rd and 4th games consecutively away from home.

I would have asked to play Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Oklahoma, ND, Miami, ASU, Indiana, Bama, UGA, LSU, A&M.

Give me the best teams of last year and a couple of rivals.

F all that, "Waaaa... they didn't play tough teams and we did...waaaaa.. my peepee hurts..."

F that. Anybody, Anywhere, Any time.

85 Bears can fuck around and find out.

We had a playoff game against Florida and lost. We had playoff game against Ohio State and lost. We had a playoff game against UGA and got our lunch money and girlfriend taken.

We already played in the playoffs and got eliminated.

The more I think about it, the more I feel Texas should be in the playoffs if they beat aggy. They would 100% be in if they played a cupcake non conference schedule like 99% of the other teams. Here is what CDC should post if we win this Friday.

"If Texas does not make the playoffs, it would verify, again, teams should not schedule quality non-conference opponents. In the future, fan experience would suffer and the college football product itself would suffer as teams will look to the path of least resistance. The University of Texas will be watching closely what the playoff committee does as will our TV sponsors for our upcoming non-conference games."

Only behind OU. We'd be ahead of vandy and in line with BYU. No higher than 11.

We came out of two bye weeks and lost, one to a terrible team and another to a playoff team. Slacks is right, that was our playoff test and we failed. That knocked us so far back that it did not matter what we did going forward. It's not losing in September that is the problem. It is losing badly in November. It's what is also dogging BYU. That destruction in Lubbock is hanging over them, so much that they have to get in and win the Big 12 CCG to get into the playoff. We have no option to do that even as a 2 loss SEC team.

And he'll sound just like the Bama AD last year who was roundly laughed at for whining about OOC scheduling when it was that Bama got left out because they lost badly to a bad OU team in late November. It's not about Ohio State being scheduled. It's about losing badly to Georgia and then an unforgivable loss to Florida. Bama was laughed at for losing to Vandy and OU. Us losing to Florida was worse. We were #10 in the rankings before Georgia. We then dropped to 17 after we got blown out. They were keeping us in there even with the bad Florida loss after we beat Vandy.

This is completely irrelevant.  "Close" or improbably Wins are going to happen to multiple teams in the playoffs every single year.   Looking at post-game win expectancy, UGA could easily be a 3 or 4 loss team, OU could easily be a 4 loss team, but they aren't and nobody is talking about that shit.

We had an 82% postgame win expectancy vs tOSU and 69% vs Florida.  Shit happens.  No one actually cares which team played better, it's about getting points on the board.

It's 100% about OSU being scheduled.  It's fucking math.   In the SEC we are going to play games damn near every week that fall somewhere in the 40% - 70% win expectancy unlike a team like Tech that has an SEC roster and has a 65% to 90% win expectancy week to week.   You don't schedule another 45% - 55% win expectancy game if the committee is going to 'count losses'.  Bitch about losing @UGA and @Florida all you want but those losses will happen in this conference every year to someone that can stay in the playoff if they schedule smart OOC.   The rosters are too comparable and the floor a lot higher compared to other conferences.  This is not an opinion. Just look at the fucking point spreads every single week for SEC games compared to every other conference.

It's NFL type parity.  Why did the Eagles lose to the shitty ass Giants and Mid Cowboys?  Because it happens to someone damn near every week in the NFL when point spreads are 8 or less.    Get used to it.

Again, what is the upside?  Where would we be ranked today if we had beaten OSU?   Where would be ranked today is we had scheduled Syracuse instead and beaten then.

If Bama loses to Auburn this weekend, they are out of the CFP. It won't be because they lost in September to a bad FSU team. It will be that they lost to a terrible Auburn team in late November.

All I care about at this point is beating aggy.  After the Florida dick-tripping, I'll be content with a win over our three historical rivals and still being in the playoff conversation until the last week of the season whether we make it or not.

It would just be too damn funny to piss in aggy's punchbowl while they are psyching themselves up for a playoff run.

The FSU loss happened after 9 months to prepare.  No road games for a few days.

UF also had a bye.  So our bye is more pertinent than their bye?  They were in desparation mode which allowed them to regroup. They had 5* WR play his first game.  He took advantage of our missing CB, our best CB.  We at least had the ball with the opportunity to tie in the 4th, albeit a small chance.  They took both Georgia and Ole Miss to the 4th without the full services of their top 2 pass catchers versus us.

FSU lost to a team that beat San Jose State on a last second FG.  The last possession Bama had to tie or take the lead was midway thru the 2nd quarter versus FSU.  They went 3 and out.

But sure that’s a way better loss.

Yes, if Bama wins the sec championship, they are clearly in.  They are in if they make the championship for that matter.

We have played and competed against more high level teams than anyone.  We’ve also done it on the road or at a neutral site as much as anyone.

This shouldn’t be about scheduling Ohio St. or Notre Dame. Or whoever the fuck else OOC that we want to see. This should be about a 12 game conference-only schedule to ensure 1) we still see good games 2) the conferences that wish they were competitive get even more irrelevant in the selection process and 3) we see Ohio St soon enough. In the damn playoffs.

i sure as fuck would rather see more SEC games than I would watch a cupcake. Both net the same result. One is immensely more fun to watch.

Bama losing last year to OU in November is not the same as Texas losing this year to Georgia in November.

To be clear in my position: I think Texas is left out at 9-3 unless there is significant chaos above us.  I don’t necessarily think Texas “deserves” a playoff spot but I do think we “deserve” one over OU and Vandy teams that we beat and were clearly better than. A 9-3 Texas has a better argument to be in than last year’s 9-3 Bama team. A 10-2 Texas team with some midrange OOC W instead of L at tOSU would 100 percent get into this year’s field. I don’t think they’d “deserve” to be in but they’d be in, if only because they’d go in over both OU and Vandy.

that Florida game was a combination of our coach not believing what he was seeing on film with the OL, trying to force a QB to do things he was not ready to do, what we now know is a deficiency in our defensive backfield, AND Florida being in "save the corch" mode at home after 3 straight losses and being spanked by Miami.

They were absolutely the more motivated team that day and that is on our coach as well.  Angry teams win football games.

I'd say that depends. I think there are maybe 21 power 5 teams with 2 or fewer losses right now just doing a quick search. If that number goes down after this weekend to 15 or so, I think you could make an argument for a 3 loss team (not saying only Texas, but...)

No it is not circular thinking. Nobody mentioned Bama. I said, OU and Vandy should be behind us. I said nothing about Bama. Bama should have been dropped after losing to Ou at home but I said nothing about this. The teams in contention we beat head to head should not be ranked above us. Nothing circular, pretty linear.

Vandy, sure. OU, I'm not so sure since they beat both Tennessee and Bama on the road. No one thought that would happen. Add to that, they do have a good OOC win against Michigan. Vandy does not have a single good win to hang their hat on. They beat Tennessee in Knoxville then they'll finally have a good win. I hope Tennessee throttles them.

Should we be in if we lose to aggy?  They're ranked 3rd
