Nothing good happens after midnight and certainly not at 2:45am

BATON ROUGE - LSU's backup quarterback Colin Hurley was injured in an on-campus crash around 2:45 a.m. Thursday

The cause of the crash has not been released, but officials said impairment was not suspected.

Narrator - maybe he was impaired

Bob Diaco exiting LSU to join Belichick's Tar Heels staff

John Brice      Jan 19, 2025

Unsurprisingly, Bill Belichick is taking a measured, methodical approach to assembling his inaugural North Carolina and first-ever collegiate coaching staff.

He's blending NFL and collegiate experience.

Now, he's poised to add one of college football's veteran-most defensive assistants, FootballScoop has learned.

Sources tell FootballScoop that longtime defensive coach Bob Diaco is joining Belichick's Tar Heels staff as an assistant coach on the defensive side of the ball.

For the past two years, Diaco has served on Brian Kelly's LSU staff; it was under Kelly a dozen years ago that Diaco earned distinction as college football's top assistant coach when he won the Broyles Award for his work coordinating Notre Dame's defense in the 2012-13 season.

Diaco has served as a defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Purdue; additionally, he had a brief, three-year stint as head coach at UConn.

Additionally, Diaco has worked collegiately at his alma mater, Iowa, as well as Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Virginia, among other stops; he coached professionally earlier this decade as the defensive line coach for the New Jersey Generals.

North Carolina hired Belichick late last month after it forced Mack Brown to step down from the program.

The Tar Heels are set to begin the Belichick era Aug. 30 at home against TCU. UNC has additional non-conference games against Charlotte, FCS program Richmond and UCF before transitioning into ACC play.

Well, a horrible end to this situation

For context he ran a few people off the road by passing like an idiot and they hit each other or something and an old man passenger died. it seems he committed suicide instead of dealing with it.

I think that I read that a jury trial (or at least a hearing) was scheduled for tomorrow.

He likely would have had to serve some time and then might have had an opportunity after paying his debt to society.

Grand Jury was going to start hearing evidence regarding officially filing felony charge. The writing was on the wall and it was pretty obvious he was going to be charged and most likely found guilty.

Crazy too that the law just changed last year to raise the maximum sentence from 5 years to 20 years.

But I'm assuming that he had other mental health issues, because suicide is a huge over reaction before you've even officially been charged with a crime.

You act like there’s no possibility this young man felt deep remorse for what he caused, regardless of the legal consequences. I haven’t followed the story and maybe he was a total narcissist, but everyone processes these situations differently and we can never know what our own reaction would be.

New information obtained by WBRZ says Lacy was arguing with a family member shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday. He reportedly pulled out a gun and shot it at the ground before leaving the area.

About 30 minutes later, a constable spotted Lacy driving and attempted to make a traffic stop. Deputies said Lacy refused to stop and was chased for several miles before crashing.

A report from the Harris County Sheriff's Office says that when deputies walked up to Lacy's vehicle to take him into custody, they didn't realize he shot himself during the pursuit and before the crash.

-------

Former LSU receiver Kyren Lacy, who was found dead Saturday night in Houston, died in an apparent suicide in his car while being pursued by authorities, according to a Harris County (Texas) sheriff's report released Sunday.

According to Harris County authorities, police responded to a call from a female family member who said Lacy had discharged a firearm into the ground during a verbal argument late Saturday night. When they arrived on the scene, they learned that the suspect, Lacy, had fled in a vehicle.

Authorities say their pursuit of Lacy ended when he crashed. When officers approached the vehicle to extract Lacy, they say he had died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the report.

Wonder why they used the term "extract".
Makes me think it was a bad wreck and he was fuckered, unable to exit the vehicle on his own.

Yeah, cause he was dead. The only people I feel badly for are the injured, deceased, and their relatives. Lacy couldn't even figure out a way to off himself that didn't put others at risk. Fuck that guy

Kelly is most likely gone after this season, barring a deep playoff run. Ryan Clark had Greg Brooks Jr on his podcast and man, Kelly is known as a piece of shit already but I don't see his reputation recovering from this

Definitely another mark against Kelly, but is anyone really surprised after his role in the kid getting killed at Notre Dame?

The real question shouldn't be how much responsibility does Kelly have with this most recent incident at one of his programs, but why the hell does he keep getting hired by anyone?

Dude has a fully guaranteed contract and has something like 56m remaining if fired after this season.

Going after him for cause is going to be ROUGH and we all know LSU doesn't have fifty million in the couch cushions. Only so many pediatric hospitals they can close too.

I watched that podcast, man it's so fucking sad. Brian Kelly is a giant piece of shit but we knew that when he forced that kid to film practice and got him killed.

Go the Tennessee route and self report?

Brian Kelly in Hot Waters as LSU Faces $51M Question Despite Major Recruiting Wins

Story by Khosalu Puro       • 1 week ago

Quote

The conversation around Brian Kelly in Baton Rouge is getting tense. Of course, some folks think LSU is set for a breakout year in 2025 with the No. 1 transfer class in the nation. But don’t let that become a complacent factor. Many are restless, and the wolves are circling. It’s not the shiny new pieces from the portal that are in the spotlight right now. The focus is on the Tigers’ HC. And that too in a bad light. And the question that folks are asking?

Is Brian Kelly even making it to Thanksgiving? There you go. In a May 4 episode on Josh Pate’s College Football Show, the CFB analyst delved into a bold prediction by a possible Georgia fan (it has Georgia’s G logo as the profile picture). The prediction—“Brian Kelly is done at LSU before Thanksgiving.” That’s November 27 this year. “Does he quit, does he retire, is he fired? Don’t know, the prediction is just that he’s done there,” Josh Pate said. “This is a 9.25 on the boldness scale. This assumes that the season goes off the rails. And as we’ve learned in major college football, when a season goes off the rails, anything can happen.” If you rewind to 2024, you’ll see where that take is coming from.

Year 3 under Brian Kelly last season was a wreck. You name it—They lost to an easy USC team, crushed by Alabama and Texas A&M, lost to Florida, and almost lost to South Carolina if their QB, LaNorris Sellers, didn’t get injured. So yeah, it was brutal. Aaron Torres of FOX Sports Radio put it bluntly, “This is what $10 million a year gets?” Well, LSU seems to be stuck.

If they were to fire their HC in 2025, it would cost them $51.7 million in contract buyout. Because his current 10-year contract runs through 2031 with a guaranteed $95 million over the next decade. But it can’t be as gloomy as the prediction right?

“I think LSU is going to be a player for the SEC title, I don’t think the season’s going off the rails,” Josh Pate predicted. But he also hit it with the “I could be wrong” statement. Hear this out. “An average team could be 5-6 going into the last weekend because they play Clemson, they play Florida, Ole Miss, South Carolina, A&M, Bama,” he added, painting the worst-case scenario. “There are a lot of losable games here. If they’re just an average team, I don’t think they’ll be better than that… If they are that, then yeah, Brian Kelly’s seat would be red-hot and you could see it going over the edge down there.” But here’s the twist….

Despite the chaos, LSU somehow sits at 10-2 in 247Sports’ early projection. The same staff that fumbled through 2024 is penciled as a playoff contender in 2025. Why? The roster. The dudes they brought in.

Brian Kelly hauls in another weapon to his transfer class

3-star transfer AJ Haulcy, the latest LSU recruiting headline. The All-Big 12 safety out of Houston just landed in Baton Rouge, as reported by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. That’s commitment No. 18, and this one’s big. Across two seasons, the 6’0, 215-pounder racked up 171 tackles and 10 pass deflections. Last season, he recorded five picks! No less than a plug-and-play starter talent. A perfect addition for Brian Kelly after he failed to add a veteran safety in the first portal period.

In three seasons across New Mexico and Houston, AJ Haulcy has 2,121 snaps and a reputation as a field general in the secondary. And his commitment sits pretty on LSU’s portal class, which now boasts 18 commits—11 of them 4-stars. It’s a major haul. But here’s the deal. Recruiting wins don’t matter if Brian Kelly and his squad can’t deliver on the field.

Whether anyone likes it or not, that $51M question will continue to hang over his head like a storm cloud. And if the Tigers can’t change the course, starting with a formidable Week 1 road trip to Clemson, things could spiral down fast.

Brian Kelly better hope AJ Haulcy and the rest of this class are the real deal. Because if not, that bold prediction might not be bold at all. It might just be the writing on the wall.
