Why all the tires? What kind of 1960 trailer house technology is this?

To try to confuse the targeting system of drones. Apparently it can be effective depending on the tech of the drones. But not as effective as putting the planes in a hangar and closing the door.

Some were claiming that it was also to lessen the impact of the drones (like cope cages), but the patterns/coverage do not reflect that.

I am surprised they aren’t painting disruptive patterns on top of their aircraft.  Make them look like a runway or something.

Well, that isn't really true. A lot of our guided systems use GPS coordinates get to an area, but identify a target with other sensors, including matching to an image (often IR) of the target. GPS guided munitions without alternate navigation and targeting systems are fairly easy to knock off course. Covering a plane in tires may look silly, but I could see it confusing some sensor systems, at least until they are adapted to counter the counter-measure.

Reposting a May 29 op-ed with this quote. Seems it might be the sign Congress needs to move the Senate bill.

The link doens't work and I"m not going on Truth.  What power is Congress suggested to give tfg?  Because giving him anymore power seems like a bad idea no matter what it is.

Maybe something to do with the seized assets?

Or military aid?

The first makes sense because all he cares about is money.

The second would be my wish, but I just don’t see him sending more aid to Ukraine. I hope he proves me wrong.

He's going to unfreeze the Russian assets and donate them to The Donald Trump Center for Ukrainian Kids Who Can't Read Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too, who will use 90% to cover the salaries of the charity employees (his kids) and the last 10% will be used to buy books (the art of the deal) for the kids.

It’s a screenshot. The bill is one that imposes significant new sanctions but most importantly 500 percent tariffs on nations importing Russian energy.

Has 80 co-sponsors in the Senate.

You know that Russia is going to respond in a dramatic way to the drone attacks to its nuclear bombers. Because it’s Russia, it will likely be aimed at civilians.    I have a very bad feeling about Russia’s response.

And yet it seems like we are at some sort of pivotal point where the orange man may get mad enough at Putin keeping him from his Nobel prize that he gives Ukraine toys that can fuck Russia up more efficiently.    If Putin kills a ton of Ukrainian civilians in some horrific attack, Putin has to weigh the public relations debacle having the possibility to push Trump into a pro Ukrainian position…. because TACO always has his eye on public opinion polls.

What will happen? I fall off the fence thinking that Putin doesn’t give a shit about what the world thinks and is soon going to send a whole lot of Ukrainian civilians to their graves

He doesn’t have that many options left - this latest hit on Kyiv was probably it.  They are constrained by missile and drone production or acquisition.

man, I hope you are right.   if that is the worst that they do in response, that makes Putin looks weak.    Like our response to Pearl Harbor being the US Navy sinking some Japanese subs and calling it a day.   I’m not so sure you can humiliate Putin and Russia so deeply and get off so easily.

Don't really care how we get there or who tries to take credit for it, it's just time to help Ukraine and kick Russia in the nads.

I do care if the man who has publicly stated:

- Zelensky is a dictator

- Ukraine started the war

- Ukraine has "disappeared" US Funds

- Sent Witkoff to meet with Putin on numerous occasions, who then declared that Putin was "acting in good faith."

- Says Ukraine should not have "fought back" after being invaded.

- that the Biden administration was "trying to start WWIII" by assisting Ukraine

attempts to try and take credit for any future Ukraine successes.

I don't care even the tiniest bit about that if it means Ukraine is getting the help it needs and kicking Russia's ass.  Not one iota.

Complete absolution for years of lobbying American and the West to turn their back on Ukraine based on lies and propaganda, so long as, at some point, help is provided?

I measure success by one metric: the final result.

It doesn't matter that the Tech pitcher intended to walk Reese Atwood....what matters is that she reached out and stroked a 2 RBI hit for the win.  That's all that matters.  The W.  Don't care how it happened or who gets credit.

in this depressing world, you can always use a laugh.  Here, we learned that the west will find out that Russia has the best military armaments in the world, weapons that are extremely powerful that the west doesn’t even know exist yet.  And while Russia used to have quantity of items, now Russia has the best quality of weapons.

He announced that NATO has a plan to attack Russia in five years.   But if we do, I can only assume that there will be more tactical golf carts facing the Polish armored columns than we could’ve dreamed.

What I get out of that is that Putin is preparing his country for the long-term war economy, and letting his fellow country even know that there will be an economic depression while Russia prepares to defend itself in five years.  Trying to prevent blowback from continuing its current policy of transforming Russia into a war economy, with all of the deprivations that will entail for the serfs?

I guess telling Ivan that he will be attacked in five years is the spoonful of sugar that helps the rotten potato go down for the next several years.

Yeah, but they won't unless it's from Europe.  Current administration has already sold them down the river.

Zelensky could march into Moscow, drop kick every guard, walk up to Putin, and slit his throat, on live TV, and Taco would take credit. I agree if it ends the war and ends Putin l, so be it, at least half the USA would know he’s still a weak twisted piece of shit, along with 90% of everyone else in the world.

I’d love it if we’d give them more weapons, but I really think that’d be a bridge too far.  Trump just isn’t there.

I think he could be convinced to SELL our 2nd/3rd line stuff to the EU or whoever, who would immediately give it to Ukraine.  Not ideal but if it gets kickass American weapons in the hands of people who will kill Russians with them, it’s a win.

The assumption is that the good news above regarding a potential shift in the current administration's direction, is real and actually happens.  If it doesn't then this discussion is moot, regardless.

Look at how the Russians handled the Kursk invasion.  There is a possibility, and I would not be surprised, that Moscow rations missiles and drones over the next few weeks and then hits Kyiv in a month or so with a  lot more than the normal attacks.  But ironically Moscow May have lost quite a few of the missile delivery systems in those destroyed aircraft.

I think this makes sense.  And in a way, given that Ukraine took a year and a half to set up with the plan before implementing it, Russia could take a year to prepare an enormous fuck you to Ukraine and refer to that timeframe if and when it occurs.

And actually, I expected the Russian Talking Heads to be more aggressively threatening everyone with death than what they are saying on TV.   Instead of agreeing that a large part of the third leg of theirnuclear delivery triad arsenal was destroyed, they focused on giving the message that Russia has all these secret wonder weapons that will destroy an NATO in the near future.  That sounds a hell of a lot like Adolf’s promises to the German people late in the war.

I don't think Russia can wait a year - Ukraine has long-range missiles coming online (homegrown no less) not to mention potentially acquiring more from Germany, France, etc. I think Russia will have to move its remaining bombers out to more isolated bases, farther away from Ukraine.

Ukraine was willing to release video/expose the methods they used, partly because Russia already knew by the time the last drone hit its target, but also because they've got other things in store.

While there is a lot of symbolism in hitting those bombers, a lot given how many missiles they launched at Ukrainian civilians, I think they did it for strategic reasons. This was too big of an operation - if they wanted symbolism, they could have gotten a few of those trucks near Moscow and hit the Kremlin.  I think they are trying to shape the airspace to keep the bombers far enough away that either it gives them a lot more time to prepare when they launch, or to just reduce the amount of missiles that can be launched on any one raid and/or take a lot of Russian missiles completely out of the equation.

I'm surprised by Russian state TV as well, I expected a lot more "we will melt the Western capitols down in a sea of nuclear fire".

I'm going to try to post this in as not douchy of a manner as possible -- "Oh, but it's not as good as the gathpacho I had in Barthelona!" -- but I think a substantial portion of the attacks (most? almost all?) are either via Shaheds or ground-launched S300/S400/Iskanders. In my experience being bombed in Ukraine (munitions AND alcohol, holler!) once I hit "translate" on the Ukrainian AF/monitor channels in Telegram to see what they said was incoming, it was essentially always one of those things and never Kinzals or Kalibrs or whatever the hell the orcs fire from jets. Not trying to be contrarian or anything like that, but that's what I saw and now, as I still wistfully check Telegram once in a while wishing I were back there.
