Aria Charges Guests $26 For A Bottle of Water

Quote

Also, the person restocking the mini bar..Knocked on my door while I was taking a break between conference and dinner, was grateful to get in. I hadn’t looked in it, he cleaned out of the mini bar – food crammed in the fridge from two guests ago. Told me they are short staffed and can’t keep up.

Told me the price after I had already (out of thirst, in the desert) consumed (fortunately only one) bottle of water. Fortunately the Starbucks downstairs sold water for “only $7.45”.

Circa has a pretty good All Inclusive deal through Sept 4th. 2 days/$400. Room, $100 food credit, $100 drink credit and a Stadium Swim daybed (normally $300 min). Includes resort fee and taxes.  Sunday through Thursday only.

Been to Vegas a million time to party and gamble. Going M-F next week for work and staying at Caesar’s as that’s where the conference is. Not my first choice after staying there last year and feeling like the place needs a massive refresh.

Anybody try to eat decently healthy while in Vegas? I usually don’t so recs in or near Caesar’s would be appreciated. I don’t want to send the company into bankruptcy with my expense report so value (relatively speaking) is also appreciated.

Anybody done the pool there? Won’t be available until later in the day but hoping to snag a free chair and take a break from losing money in the later afternoons.

Going to answer my own question and post it in case there are other people looking for the same thing. Work travel has packed on the pounds so now I have to be careful.

True food kitchen - Caesars

Roku Sushi - Caesars

The Halal Guys - Venetian

Canyon Ranch - Venetian (lunch only)

Does the pool really close at 5 pm each day? If so that is a huge kick in the dick considering the resort fees.

Tell them you decline the resort fee. They can’t force it on you, by Nevada law, allegedly.

I tell them “just send that resort fee to my host.”

I’m not that concerned about it because my company is paying and I’ll probably use the gym. Just saying a $56/night fee for a pool that closes at 5 pm is shitty. Google AI is saying that’s standard so I guess they can get away with it.

I’m going next week and my wife is wanting to rent a car and drive to the Grand Canyon. Anyone done that? I’m not looking to spend the night there, just see the West Canyon sky walk and drive back to the hotel.

there is a joke in there somewhere about not needing to drive anywhere to see the Grand Canyon, but i digress.  it's ~130 miles one-way from strip.  maybe rent a lambo and do the trip in 1 hour.

Sounds like she’s just trying to check a box. Book her a seat on one of the helicopter tours and save her a bunch of time.

If you're flying from Austin, you will go right over it.  Tell her she can see it twice without devoting a day to it.  Then duck.

6 pm.

Caesars used to have a night swim that was a paid feature ($20 a person, maybe?) that we did back in 2022.  It was nothing to write home about, honestly.  The three highlights were, in no particular order:

-The cocktail waitress looking at my ID, seeing "none" for corrective lenses, and asking loudly "are you from None?"

-The couple that with 97% certainity were fucking in the pool just down from us

-Caesars evacuating the pool and the casino floor because of the "shooting" that happened at MGM and caused widespread panic at all the resorts moving north.  We spent around an hour in Caesars basement, in swimwear, along with a variety of other resort visitors.  Fun times.

Weather related.

There was a ground stop at LAS yesterday.   High winds.

I figured it had to be something like that. There wasn’t anything on the radar, go figure being in the desert, so figured it had to  be wind or heat related issues.

That’s an odd diversion when PHX is just down the road.

Not really. Probably the closest runway that could accommodate the aircraft and crew, while passengers were ferried up to Vegas by bus or another plane. Using a couple three charter buses would probably be quicker anyway, unless they could have got another plane and or crew to go up. Logistics of those pretty much suck, but at least PHX is close, and a hub.

A gas ‘n go in PHX would have been a lot quicker and likely cheaper in the long run. As it stands, AA stranded an aircraft at an airport they don’t serve and doesn’t even have scheduled commercial service.

Buffalo Bills closing in Primm. Only open concert weekends. I went to Primm back when it was in full boom and it was pretty cool with all the rides. They use the Outlet Mall for tactical police training now.

The first pic was from Monday morning.   I then took the phone into the pool (as I have many times in the past) and snapped some photos.

Then later that day, my camera had become a potato.  Blurry, couldn’t focus.  I looked and there’s condensation in the lens of not only the back cameras, but the front as well.  The second photo is from Wednesday, and it’s focused the best it can.

I’ve got an Apple Store appointment Saturday afternoon, and maybe they will be kind to me.  I’ll post the food pics when I get home tomorrow morning.  Some of those are going to be best described as “an effort was made”.  Had I been taking pictures of other things, those would have turned out shitty as well.

Home.  Here's the trip report.

We always go to Vegas this week in July, since it is our anniversary, and by coincidence, it's the same time as NBA summer league.  Since most (if not all) the teams and NBA media folks stay at either Wynn or Encore, you can spot players and people in the NBA ecosystem.  For instance, I passed within 3 feet of Chams at the Tower Suites bar, and he wears as much makeup in person as he does on TV.  Also sat at a bar and watched Ime Udoka and some other staffer leering at chicks asses for a good 10 minutes as they passed by.

Arrived Sunday morning around 8, checked in at Wynn (great thing about Wynn is you can check in early and if the room is ready, you can go right up.  Other Vegas properties charge you a premium to check in early).  Then we walked over to Peppermill for breakfast.  I'll spoiler all the food pics so the post will load quicker.  Also, as noted above, I unwittingly turned my camera into a potato.

Sunday breakfast at Peppermill:

Spoiler

Love the blueberry and lemon-cranberry muffins they serve.    Also, the ham is legit.  Wife had an omelette of some kind.

Sunday dinner was at Sinatra.   Love the place; they even give us the same booth each year.   They put out a greeting card for us, which is a nice touch.

Spoiler

Obligatory before the "not seeing pics of the missus" quotes come up:

Shrimp cocktail and meatballs/polenta for appetizers; veal parm w/side of spaghetti for me and Mezze Maniche alla Bolognese for my wife.  Their pomodoro sauce is so good I always get a small bowl of it on the side.  Dessert was a cannoli and Limone, along with some 20 year port.

Monday evening was Joe's Stone Crab at Caesars.   No pics, because this is when I realized what I had done to the phone.

Tuesday morning at Tableau:

Spoiler

I had their breakfast sandwich, which had shaved turkey.  Quite good.   She had a Belgian waffle.

Tuesday we visited Player1. For those of you who visited the arcade thread on Daily Texan over the past few weeks, you would enjoy this place.  $9 cover charge and you can play everything (including consoles) unlimited.  Pinball machines are excluded, but they take quarters.  Beer menu is quite extensive.   We went intending to spend an hour or so, and at the 4 hour mark, we had to leave.  It's a few miles from Wynn, so you would need to taxi over. Highly recommended.

Tuesday dinner at Mizumi Teppanyaki

Spoiler

Not many photos; I failed to take any of the main course (seafood trio for me, steak for my wife)

Miso soup, Yellowtail Sashimi, Kisu Tempura and Grilled Shrimp and Shishito appetizer.

Wednesday night was La Cave.  @Brisketexan Shin Lim was fantastic.  The show didn't have a opening act; there is a mentalist (Colin Cloud) who serves as a "narrator" of sorts while intermittently performing his own acts.   We sat on the front row, and Shin asked me to volunteer a number between 1 and 5.  There was also a card trick the entire audience could participate in. His sleight of hand with other things instead of cards (cash, casino chips) was just head shaking.   No photos were allowed during the performance.

Thursday night was 6666 steakhouse.  It's a pop-up Taylor Sheridan concept restaurant at Wynn; they convert Tableau (a breakfast/brunch place) each day into a steakhouse for the night.  It's popular enough that they have extended this into semi-permanent status.  Odds are they will close some other place in their complex and give it a permanent home.

Our flight didn't leave until last night, so we had some time to kill.  One of the things I had wanted to try was the lunch burger at Peter Lugar's.   They only sell it between noon-4 pm, it only comes with an onion (although cheese and/or bacon can be added) and social media photos make it look like the greatest burger ever made.   Short answer:  might be the greatest burger I've ever eaten.  Each patty is 8 oz, and is made up of the trimmings of their dry aged steak.  Whatever american cheese they are using is outstanding, and even the damned bun is incredible.  Ordered a medium, but wish I had ordered medium rare.  I tried a bite with their sauce, and another with ketchup, and quite frankly, it detracted from the meat so much, I can't think of defacing this burger with any condiment.    We had fries (which are fried in beef tallow) and an appetizer of their bacon.  We will be back for this.
