Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer released this joint statement on President Trump declaring a national emergency:

“The President’s unlawful declaration over a crisis that does not exist does great violence to our Constitution and makes America less safe, stealing from urgently needed defense funds for the security of our military and our nation. This is plainly a power grab by a disappointed President, who has gone outside the bounds of the law to try to get what he failed to achieve in the constitutional legislative process.

“The President’s actions clearly violate the Congress’s exclusive power of the purse, which our Founders enshrined in the Constitution. The Congress will defend our constitutional authorities in the Congress, in the Courts, and in the public, using every remedy available.

“This issue transcends partisan politics and goes to the core of the Founders’ conception for America, which commands Congress to limit an overreaching executive. The President’s emergency declaration, if unchecked, would fundamentally alter the balance of powers, inconsistent with our Founders’ vision.

“We call upon our Republican colleagues to join us to defend the Constitution. Just as both parties honored our oath to protect the American people by passing the conference committee bill, the Congress on a bipartisan basis must honor the Constitution by defending our system of checks and balances.

“The President is not above the law. The Congress cannot let the President shred the Constitution.”

I'll disagree with this part. The defense budget is so bloated and ridiculously huge it's beyond comprehension and completely illegitimate to claim it is needed to "keep us safe." I almost want to say "fuck it" if that money is there and not needed let the president use it elsewhere. But we all know that a democrat would never get away with it if used to support things democrats like. And also, its fucking unconstitutional to allow the chief executive to do this by himself, goddamnit!  Congress has the power of the purse, and they should get real about what is really needed to "keep us safe" because right now its a blank fucking check.

It's amazing to look back at the last 25 years of Limbaugh/Hannity and FoxNews and see how they have shaped our country, or at least the 40% of true believers.

The other day, Hornius posted a photo of Jackie Kennedy and LBJ laughing in San Antonio the day before JFK was assassinated in Dallas.  Hornius doesn't allow partisan politics on his page and he prefaces any historical photo of a Texas politician by noting that his page is not for politics. He wrote the same thing before posting this particular photo.  Despite this entreaty,  the resident Limbaughtonians just couldn't resist posting their bullshit.  This is one of the responses to a 55 year old photo:

Quote

"No Tom, our destiny is being written in a totally different direction. Those days of innocence, and that is what they were, are gone. there is too much strife in America, there is so much division, the ISLAMIC movement is working hard to destroy America from within, and so far, they are succeeding. Our institutes of higher learning are teaching ISLAMIC doctrine, socialism and the corruption of our constitutional republic form of government, our freedoms are being wiped out by leaps and bounds. As long as we have a Congress that is staffed with Muslims and Socialists, as long as we deny our God, his rightful place in this country, As long as our leaders are advocating perversions and degradation of the morality that helped keep this country proud and strong, As long as our very elected leaders are passing laws that allow the murder of our young, right up till the day of their birth, As long as the very safety and control of our borders and any semblance of control over who and how many illegal aliens are allowed to enter this country, bringing with them Jihadists and others bent on creating mayhem in our homeland, As long as the unfettered flow of those illegal aliens that are 50 or even 100 years behind in the medical advances that wiped out smallpox and measles, and polio and TB, and Typhoid Fever, and all manner of other diseases that have been abolished in our land, and which they are bringing back in. Our country will continue on it's downward slide into oblivion, or socialistic poverty and rioting, where the richest and strongest country in the very history of the world is being brought down, not by a superior power on the field of battle, but by the degradation of our own society, by the onset of generations of young, unprepared to assume leadership roles, unprepared to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States, but holding out their hands and crying for what they feel entitled to, in our once proud universities, they have to have "Safe Rooms", places where they can go to cry and to recoup whenever their delicate sensibilities are hurt.

America has been a proud and independent and free land for well over 250 years, She has been a place where those who are poor and needy could come to find shelter from the harsh realities of the rest of the World. All of that came to a sudden halt when those thousands were agitated and organized and indoctrinated with the belief that they too were somehow entitled to their share of the riches of America, and started sneaking over our borders, coming by the thousands in convoys aided and transported by those richest of the worlds despots that desire a New World Order, where they can rule and continue to amass their disgraceful billions, while usurping all the power over the population of the world, America included. These people are headed up by George Soros, who himself was a Nazi and was in the camps where so many millions of Jews were incarcerated and murdered. This self same Nazi is still hard at work, working to dominate the world in the name of the Third Reich. While, on the other hand, the very doctrine of ISLAM dictates that they conquer the world and kill all who will not convert to ISLAM. Their goal, regardless of what many of them say, is total world domination. And we are letting them in and giving them control at an alarming rate. They are doing just exactly what their Quran tells them to do. come in in peace, gain the confidence of the nonbelievers and work slowly and quietly , but steadily, to gain more and more control, until they have overcome America and We are free no more.
So no Tom, we will never return to dressing up again in the future, there is no Santa Claus, no easter bunny and little hope for the future of the United States of America. God Bless Her.

Our times of triumph and greatness have come and gone, we are fast approaching the Ides of March, I would that these things were not true, but that is the way of civilization, since the time of Genghis Kahn, Eras and civilizations rise and fall, great empires rise, grow, become corrupted and fall into ruin, take Rome, The English Empire, just to name a few.

Greatness has an expiration date, America has had a wonderful run, from 1776, through 2026, she mostly has lead the world in every way possible. but there are just too many people, too many factions, all wanting more and more from a government that is built and based on freedom and independence, on our citizens working and building and generating wealth and security, on our governing bodies holding strong to the constitution and it's edicts, the way the founding fathers laid them out. They were brilliant men, they foresaw so much from back in a time when there was plenty and to spare, but there are just too many people.

With all of these people who are not willing to work and be a part of the cure for what is increasingly bringing America down, but instead holding out their collective hands and wanting more and more, for doing less and less, America, nor any other country can stand under that pressure.

The very weight of the world, the greed of evil men, the lack of will and drive and direction on the parts of our younger generations, along with the tremendous influx of uneducated, untrained, unvaccinated, people who steal across our borders looking for a better life without having to work for it. All these things combined are taking our Lady Liberty and bringing her to her knees, she is on the verge of being totally defeated, and some other Empire will rise up and overrun the remains of America the Beautiful and the world will be set back a thousand years with the enforcement of ISLAMIC LAW."

Here's the photo that Hornius posted, the one that drew the above response:

Is his hard-on for a wall truly rooted in xenophobia or is it mostly a graft that will benefit his Russian backers? Or is this solely about showing how weak our public is in the face of obvious corruption?

Throwing a bone to his base.   He knows it won’t survive judicial review.  Hell, he created a self-fulfilling prophecy when he said he didn’t need to do it.  That pretty much torpedoes the emergency part.

But this means he doesn’t have to shutdown the government and risk losing more states on top of MI, PA, WI, and AZ, and he gets to pretend to fight for his base.

For Rand to publicly state that, when he could have stayed silent, is very intriguing.

Lol, when he sees the polls of republican voters he'll change his tune.

"After a thorough review, I fully support the president. Democrats have caused an emergency situation and have bloated the debt. The honorable president will fix this intolerable situation.  He sure is good looking too, huh?"

Not one reporter mentioned the promise of Mexico paying for the wall.  This entire narrative of an "emergency order" needs to be framed in the context of a frivolous campaign slogan devolving into having appropriation powers ripped from Congress and handed to the Executive Branch.

(Article One, Section 8, Clause 1) is now in jeopardy of being ripped from the Constitution.  The foundation of Congress's mandated check on the Executive branch and the Appropriation's Clause, the legislative duty of separation of powers, must now be ceded for any of this to take traction.  If Republicans want to support this under the argument of Article 2 then they need to be forced to articulate it every day.  They should be forced to defend this expansion of power daily.

This is the part that should have every American worried. And if you're not worried by this, my recommendation is to look at the history of democracies, because they always end -- fail to be democracies -- at a point when some minority feels that compromise is impossible and extreme measures must be taken.

If you care about America remaining a democratic republic, you are rooting for Pelosi and Congress right now.

Watching Rand Paul and the Freedom Caucus and small government proponents support the greatest expansion of the Executive Branch in U.S. history along with the redirection of funds already appropriated by Congress will be fascinating.  The final surrender of every ideal and purpose of their existence has now been handed to a c-list television celebrity who once said "take the guns, then due process ... you get the courts involved and it takes too long  ... take the guns first."

These men are nihilists Donnie.

The first step to setting the precedent of land being seized by the Federal Government with unilateral action has been taken by GOP.  The GOP.  The GOP has done this.

Feds seizing private land is nothing new, but this is undoubtedly one of the most egregious.  Ex .  Ranches in New  Mexico for White Sands missile range.

That isn't an innocent photo of LBJ and Jackie K sharing a private laugh.  That's a photo of LBJ trying to figure out how to get in her pants skirt.

Let's not forget one of LBJ's great quotes:

Quote

"I have had more women by accident than Kennedy ever had on purpose."

Good insight. How is it an "emergency" if he doesn't need to do it?

Because reasons.  Check out this exchange:

"So your own government's stats are wrong?"

"No, no.  I use many stats.  Let me tell you, you have stats that are far worse than the ones I have.  I use many stats.  Many stats.  But I also use Homeland Security."

So the answer to your question is "many stats."  I don't know what that means.  Nobody does.  Nobody has any idea what that means but that is now officially the answer.  The American press failed at having this explained to us today.  The real stats denote a decline in crossings and crimes committed by those who cross.  Those stats come from the people who Trump appointed and their stats run directly opposed to the "many stats" he's using.

This entire declaration by Trump now has to be defended by Congressional Republicans by ignoring the state department's stats, and in full support of the "many stats" used by the president that nobody else has seen.  And some of them are doing it today.  And if "many stats" survives judicial review, then we'll move forward with a government where the Executive Branch can do whatever the fuck it wants.  Future presidents will then be allowed to use "many stats" hopefully to mandate kickass things like we all get ice cream and some sweet, sweet pussy.  Sure, they could do some evil things, but hopefully they do cool stuff like the ice cream and sweet pussy thing.  So, yeah, "many stats" is how this is an emergency.

Unfortunately, 35-40 percent only care about MAGA and the GOP leadership moves closer to open disdain for democracy every day soooo

Ted Cruz has figured out an alternative solution. This an idea that a pothead would dream up.

I used to think Ted Cruz wasn't stupid. Conniving and power-hungry in spite in being one of the biggest bitches the world has ever seen, yes. But not stupid.

I was wrong. Ted Cruz is a fucking moron.

Unnoticed observation, McConnell and the Republicans are letting Trump hang himself again.

They could have prevented the folly of the shutdown and didn’t, they could have prevented this national emergency shit and didn’t.

They know Trump will take the political hit before they ever will.

Why arent they doing a better job of protecting Trump from himself?

You're definitely right.  As far as I know, land has never been seized by one person making an emergency declaration.  One person.  Maybe so.  I'm not sure.  Maybe Japanese internment.  Maybe with the parks.  I have no idea.  Like you said, this is seemingly the most egregious.  I'm an idiot, but I know that this is a really hot stove because the entire thing is on fire.

imo Trump has them covered from 2 angles -- the rube base of true believers and whatever kompromat he and Daddy Putin have on the R Senators/Congressmen.

Trump is hopelessly compromised, so I guess it's not right to say he has the leverage. He's just the middle man who takes lost sheep like Lindsey Graham on golf outings to get their mind right.
