I believe most folks on this board are more interested in finding out if their employer offers a "strained your elbow from jerking off too much to Albanian midget porn" coverage.

At least, that's what the fellas on the football board told me.

Serious note: everyone should check out a cancer policy if their employer offers one, or get one if they don’t.
My HR recommended I got it - and wouldn’t you know three months after paying my $15 a month I got cancer. Once I sent them proof of my tumor, they sent me a cash payment of $11,000 - and paid 20% cash of the cost of each of my on-going MRIs and CTs.
Not a bad bang for your buck.  It was one stressor I did not have to have as I made my co-pays and airfare and hotel visits to MDA.   It is so damn cheap that if you ever join the club, that valuable assist makes dealing with it a hell of a lot easier financially.

This isn't a joke, I know that most of this board is probably gainfully employed and insured, that being said, finding employers with even DECENT health insurance at decent rates these days, even if employed full time, is fucking tough.

Well, that's offensive.

I much prefer Serbian midget porn myself.  F'n insurance companies probably draw the line there, some sort of "pre-existing condition" or some such.

Wait till you discover SYBIAN midget porn.

This and most people do not know what the insurance will cover until they need it.

Had my first blood transfusion yesterday. Muh globins dropped one point below the threshold to cause the visit.

I felt fine until i ate a sammich then i was seeing spots and could barely walk. Glad i cant get uncontrollable boners these days. Might of killed me.

A pint of O+ later and I was back in action.

PSA: dont go to St Davids off parmer if you have an emergency.  They were down 14 nurses last night.

I can speak to this after a recent visit to ER with my pops. Awful experience.

BTW, the “secret ER” in Austin is…the Heart Hospital next to Central Market. It’s a full ER, we’ve never had a wait.

Sheesh. On top of being 780 miles away... you wonder how they claim to be an "emergency" room.

Doc visit today, numbers almost freakishly good.

Blood pressure clocked in way too low, first reading was maybe 72/50, one step above being ectoplasm. They fed me salty snacks until I flexed out 20 points higher.

Welireg is supposed to mess up oxygen levels. We remain defiant at 99%.

Down to almost my Army weight, mainly due to Wife had knee surgery, doesn't cook as much, and we eat smaller portions when it's Poison, I mean Fast Food Night. (uppity up up uppity)

Nothing really to report other than constant minor 1-out-of-10 pain-scale aches to shoulders/hips/knees. Might just be 60+ Rainy Weather Blues.

Next body scan 3 weeks when the techs get to look at mah bo-dee.

The last time I had an O2 sat at 99% was never.

Looks like I got my invitation to this club. I felt something weird on my nuts last weekend, got a doc appt immediately, had an ultrasound/blood work…yada yada yada I’m having surgery on Wednesday. Doing a CT and Xray on Monday to see if it has spread anywhere/any other action needed.

On the bright side, I think I caught it early - aside from me calling as soon as I noticed it, I had a vasectomy in March and the doc definitely would have noticed anything abnormal based on the attention my nuts got. I’m feeling positive that I got the “best” one to get, but throw some good vibes my way.

You’ve got this.
Go balls to the wall.
Go nuts on this one.
Testicles.

Just found this thread.  Been on the Music board since I joined.  I’ve survived Stage IV colorectal, metastatic to the lymph and liver, with two recurrences.

If anybody gets into that world, I’m more than happy to share my experiences.  I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy.

Well tomorrow is surgery day. I was hoping this would be a quick clean surgery and you're done, but the imaging I had on Monday showed a couple spots of potential concern elsewhere, so I'll definitely need some sort of follow-up treatment/trip to an oncologist.

I went through the seven stages of grief a few times yesterday and am back to optimism. My urologist is great/really on the ball and is referring me to a highly regarded oncologist here in Austin ASAP, though I can't help but panic and wonder if I should be doing everything I can to get down to MD Anderson immediately after, even though I don't have the pathology results yet nor have insurance that works down there.

Another question for folks here who are either in the healthcare field/have friends in healthcare and have gone down this road - I trust the path I am going down now, but I have doctor friends reaching out asking if they can help. Do you view this as a helpful resource, or more of a too many cooks in the kitchen type issue?

basically, I think this is your life we are talking about, and all though you may not decide to have all your car at MD Anderson, once your local guy comes up with a care plan I would at minimum do a consult with MDA to get a second opinion. That does not require you to use their care or their MRI machines or their surgery, but at least you would get a second opinion.

If I would not have gone to MDA, I would’ve been gutted like a fish in an unnecessary surgery.    Which is not to say you would have a bad experience with your local provider, but I don’t think you should discount MDA because it is not on your insurance if you are simply going to get a second opinion using the diagnostics prepared by your local people.

I remember those 7 stages. You will get into fuck cancer mode soon enough.

Maybe ill see you at texas oncology. Im only there twice a week. Are you seeing RDC? Hes great and pretty funny guy.

Also agree to get a second opinion at MDA.

Im going through chemo here but its under their supervision.  Fortunately my insurance covers everything there so im having all scans and radiation then surgery there.

Good luck.

I'll try to shorten this. Mi esposa has something wrong. Saw numerous doctors in home town. Several diagnoses with treatment, but no improvement. During this she had 3 MRI's at 3 different places. All 3 interpreted as "normal". Got referral to MDA. Surgeon puts the MRI into his computer. Looks at it for about 30 seconds. Motions us to slide our chairs over to where we can see. "There it is right there". Points to obvious spot on the MRI that three other doctors had interpreted as normal.

Man I don’t understand it.

BIL died last weekend.
Sis retired and (he has been retired for awhile. Getting ready to move back to Texas so he could help one of his sisters with her dementia.
Feels bad on Saturday and goes to ER. Surgery scheduled for Mon. Doc says nothing we can do after surgery. He stays in hospital for 1.5 weeks and goes to hospice on Saturday and passes away few hours later. Very rare and aggressive says doc.

Who read the scans initially? I’m amazed at how often things get missed. My wife and I both have examples of things getting missed, fortunately they were both orthopedic issues and not cancer. First was my wife who had been having knee pain (she’s a runner) and got the all clear on an MRI. After it not going away, I sent the scan to a buddy that’s a pediatric radiologist and he took one look at it and saw a meniscus tear. She had surgery a week later. In my case, I tripped over a broken sidewalk while walking my dog in the dark. Had an x-ray the next day and got the all clear. Continued to have pain and couldn’t walk without a limp for six months when I finally made an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. He took one look at the films and said he would have operated on me the next day after I had the original x-ray. Ended up having lisfranc surgery and I have an assortment of screws in my foot as a result.
