I do not follow this as closely as most of you.  Are they really going to fire a guy that won 10 games and a Rose Bowl in his first season and then followed that up with an 11 win season and a trip to the Cotton Bowl just last year?

The only reason they weren't the miserable team you saw before Helton switched QBs is through that QB's talent and sheer force of will. There was a bunch of talent there. Darnold told his WRs and OL what he wanted and when they did it shit worked. When the coach did too much they sucked.

Of course they're gonna hire Del Rio. As mentioned, it meets their incest requirements. But it also follows the model of hiring failed NFL coaches that worked with Carroll. Win/win. But then loss.

And to all this point,  they will stick to the same offenses and avoid any drastic overhaul because being a spread team is beneath USC.

I would love to hear from a former player who was recruited by an nfl coach turned ncaa coach. I wonder how the pitch is different between someone that pitches all of the time and a coach that hasn’t recruited. Sure, there are recruiting coordinators and it’s just selling, but how many times can someone say “I’ve coached the best before!” Or “I’ve been where you want to go!”. I would be interested to hear what herm’s speel was last year. Can’t imagine it’s easy to pick up if you don’t have a ‘selling’ personality.

Early enrollees don’t have to commit prior to or sign on NSD1.

No one ever has to commit, nor sign, they all can just enroll if the school wants them.

Nah, he just cast a line out to get a better offer.

Nov 1 USC coaches demoted and fired over text messages

NOVEMBER 01, 2018

It was easy to assume Neil Callaway lost his job because of how the USC offensive line performed this season. It was also easy to assume Tee Martin lost play calling duties because of the inept USC offense. But that assumption is incorrect. What actually led to Callaway’s dismissal and Martin’s demotion, according to a source close to the program, was text messaging between wives.

Before any staff changes were considered, Neil Callaway’s wife sent out a group text intended for friends and family. In the text, she spoke strongly about how Helton needs to do something about Martin immediately. She expressed this, because, in her opinion, Martin isn’t doing a good job.

Unfortunately, the text didn’t go out to those closely associated with the Callaway family. Instead, it was sent to the wives of all the USC coaches.

After receiving the message, Martin’s wife texted back angrily that she intended to confront Callaway’s wife in person. That didn’t happen, but the incident did deepen an ever growing divide amongst the USC coaches.

When the dust settled, Callaway was fired. Martin and his bosses came to an agreement that it was best for both parties if they moved on from one another. Clay Helton will now try to rebuild USC’s offensive staff for what could be his final year with the Trojans.

“They had to let him go because now you have wives fighting each other,” the source said of Neil Callaway. “Clay has already been told he’s coming back. So what’s going to happen is as soon as the season is over, Tee is going to go look for another job. He’s gone. Clay has to produce next year or he’s done. They can’t hire another coach when they have an interim president, they don’t want to go through a full fledge coaching search. They’re going to wait and see what happens, and give Clay a break. But Callaway had to go because the office was messed up. It didn’t have anything to do with performances.”

Yeah, they are worse than EJ and Bobby.  Thanks for the heads up.

I think Shannon Terry is involved too.

They should take away EJ's ranking privileges after his Rondale Moore evaluation.

Burton doesn't do a darned thing other write semi-daily "columns" full of extremely obvious takes. An eighth grader could write better post game recaps.

Howe has been on a pretty rapid decline since leaving Inside Texas. In his defense, I believe he's had pretty serious health issues.

That sounds like the best case scenario regarding our chances with Bru.

Got to agree.  Helton being retained but the staff is in chaos... dead man walking and everyone knows it.  The fear is that the wheels completely come off and they just shit can him this season.  They need to win a few down the stretch.

USC news keeps getting better and better. Helton being given another year while the OC/WR coach gets replaced is as good as we could have hoped for I think.

Pick up Tee Martin as a consultant or go all in as WR coach.  He's Bru primary recruiter and USC top overall

side note, I'm surprised to see mehringer is considered 3rd in the nation by 247.  move him to consultant and replace him with Martin or vice versa, but time to fill up with "consultants" who can recruit ala Bama/tOSU etc.   what good is money if you can't make it work for you?
