Mike Clevinger is gonna be out for a while with a lat injury.

Theres no scientific explanation, but I’ve always been a believer that the baseball gods will smite teams that sit on their ass all offseason and they certainly haven’t been kind to the Indians thus far (or the Cubs).

Sucks for Clevinger.  He looked primed for a huge season.

suspensions:

Major League Baseball announced several suspensions today arising out of a review of Sunday’s bench-clearing brawl between the Pirates and Reds. You can take your own look at the incident in question right here.

Pittsburgh right-hander Chris Archer was hit with a five-game ban, with the league determining that he intentionally threw at an opposing player (Derek Dietrich). Cincinnati outfielder Yasiel Puig received a two-game suspension while skipper David Bell will sit out one contest.

All of the punishments also came with undisclosed fines. It is not yet clear whether Archer will appeal, but Puig and Bell are planning to begin serving their bans beginning with this evening’s contest.

saw he lined to the warning track yesterday.  if he is still barreling the ball up like that, it seems impossible one doesn't find a hole every now and again.  it's really as amazing as it is sad.

He's struck out 29 times during this streak. Not quite barreling it

And Ranger fans call the Astros aggy

To expound on a point i made the other day, i love how baseball players do stupid shit like this, they throw seeds and gum all over a teammate who's being interviewed, they pie guys in the face, they do the hot foot and bubblegum pranks, they tie pedro to a beam with athletic tape, but then when someone admires a HR that he hit those same guys say, "He needs to respect the game." GTFO. Baseball players are the worst at that shit .

A woman is suing the Houston Astros for more than $1 million, claiming her finger was broken when she was hit by a shirt from the T-shirt cannon fired at close range by the team's mascot, Orbit, last season.

Jennifer Harughty says in the suit that her left index finger was shattered on July 8, 2018, when she was hit by a shirt from the cannon. Harughty, who was sitting in the middle of the first deck behind the third base line, says she has had two surgeries on the finger but still has impaired range of movement.

Harughty filed a lawsuit against the Astros on Monday, alleging the organization was negligent, failed to warn fans about the risk associated with the cannon, didn't properly train staff on the equipment and failed to enact policies to ensure fans' safety.

"The Astros are aware of the lawsuit with allegations regarding Orbit's t-shirt launcher," the team said in a statement. "We do not agree with the allegations. The Astros will continue to use fan popular t-shirt launchers during games. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment on this matter."

Harughty said in the suit that she has had more than $15,000 in medical bills and wants to be compensated for mental anguish, lost opportunity, lost enjoyment of life and lost earnings.

An attorney for Harughty told the Houston Chronicle that the suit was filed after the Astros refused to pay the woman's medical bills.

Suits by injured fans are difficult to win because Major League Baseball tickets include a disclaimer saying that the bearer of the ticket assumes all risk and dangers incidental to the game and releases the team and Major League Baseball from liability.
