  1. Holy shit. This series of posts brings up the bodies on the OL coaching side of things, and they are fucking ripe. UT has basically been cursed on this front for the vast majority of my life and most of all of those on this board. Clovis Hale (RIP) - generally incompetent Tim Nunez - probably the worst of all of them. He didn’t recruit, he couldn’t evaluate, and he had no idea what he was doing with his unit. Mack Brown actually did end up firing this guy when he got tired of defending him. Mac McWhorter - the architect of the greatest phantom OL in history (2009), this motherfucker took sloth to an art form. His recruiting technique of evaluating no one and signing only players in the Austin MSA west of I-35 completed the Nunez-led villainous strategy of largely destroying our offensive line unit for the better part of 2 decades. Probably the low point in UT OL history was watching Nebraska’s Suh clown the entire OL and Chris Hall specifically into a national CFB meme that December. McWhorter coupled that lowlight with a recruiting mirror of that move by offering a guy in wheelchair and ignoring multiple state of Texas OL candidates that signed with Baylor, OU and elsewhere, eventually playing in the NFL. Joe Wickline - finally a proven OL coach who would turn things around! LOL. I don’t know what in the fuck happened here except overwhelmed and stupid were trademarks of the Chucklefuck Era, so let’s just assume this guy lathered himself up in both traits, combo’d those problems with a penchant for being a piece of shit to his unit and an angry recruiter who identified with basically no one but JP Urquidez’s father and we wound up with a further descent into OL unit ineptitude. Derek Warehime - a meatheaded clown with the only justification for getting hired was that he was bros with meatheaded Fuckface, his only positive contribution to the UT program is the aforementioned hogger grumpy that he dropped in Walker Little’s mother’s private washroom. They live down the street from me in Bellaire and they’ve attempted everything from a thorough repaint to a black mold-like drywall teardown and rebuild, to no avail. Herb Hand - a frequent object of disdain from the recruiting board, for good reason, his OL unit actually improved in year 1 versus the greasefire that Warehime had reduced the unit to in a single year. A brief, small blip of faint hope preceding a continued trajectory into the inexplicable abyss of prolonged but consistent failure of a single unit for many years via many coaches. The dude with Mackovic was good and Stacy Searels gets a pass. How the 2004-2005 units overcame the yoke of ineptitude can only be explained by the nasty disposition of the Studdard/Blalock/Sendlein led unit itself. Fuck me. Fuck you. Fuck them. Kyle Flood better have a great fucking strategy and even better black magic to break this fucking curse, obviously cast on our program by the ghost of Antwan Kirk Hughes.

  6. Link to actual report: https://eyesoftexas.utexas.edu Four Key Takeaways from the Committee Report “The Eyes of Texas” Remains Our Alma Mater President Hartzell stated in July 2020 that “The Eyes of Texas” would remain UT’s alma mater, the UT System Board of Regents supported his decision, and The Eyes of Texas History Committee was created with the sole authority to research and understand the song’s history, as well as institutional and broader historical uses since its inception. The History of the Song Reflects the History of America The history of “The Eyes of Texas” mirrors the history of the United States, Texas, The University of Texas at Austin as well as its band and sports teams. This complexity creates an opportunity for continued learning, sharing and understanding. Facts and Historical Context Matter Research by the committee has uncovered important facts and historical context, some of which have never been systematically compiled and analyzed until now. Additionally, the research provides robust evidence about many elements of the song, several of which have been previously unsupported by fact. These facts add nuance and richness to the story of a song debuted in a racist setting, common for the time, but, the research shows, was intended to parody the famous phrases of the university president. The exclusion of Black students at that time presents an opportunity to think about how they and other communities of color have fought for inclusion and the work that remains to ensure all members of our community feel they belong. Living Out the Meaning From its inception, “The Eyes of Texas” has always been a song about accountability. Therefore, the spirit and intention of the song compels the university to be transparent about its past and be ever more accountable to the state and its diverse people. In this sense, the work of the committee was a microcosm of what the university should stand for: research, getting to the facts, seeking to understand others’ viewpoints, continuing to learn, courageously confronting and acknowledging our history, and finding ways to strengthen our community going forward.

  7. Incredible. As a non-fat person who generally eats way more than most people I know, my grounds rules would be: 1) Eating half of the 3-foot remainder that sat for hours is totally fair game. At that point the party is getting close to leftovers/finish-the-food mode. 2) Dick move to "wait" 10 minutes and then just quietly snarf the last remaining half. Everyone knows that you make a call-out in that situation and ask if anyone wants some before Joey-Chestnutting the final few feet of that sandwich. And I put wait in quotes because jabba here definitely didn't wait all 10 and was probably feverishly counting down the seconds before he could sneak-waddle back into the kitchen and get his hotdog fingers onto that sandwich. All of that said, given how easy he makes it sound to put down 3 feet of sandwich within a matter of minutes, all of these party people should have known this was liable to happen and should have gotten their sandwich helpings proactively.

  12. I agree. The report said no clear proof. They investigated it. Based on circumstantial evidence they think it was more likely than not sung in blackface. But it was not written minstrely in exaggerated ridiculous black dialect to ridicule blacks. And anyone who can read could have told you that 8 months ago. This analogy is borrowed from a friend of mine who I went to law school with as a TLDR summary of the report: Lasagna can’t be tied to Nazism, even though some Italian Nazis may have eaten it (though, no proof exists). The rumor that lasagna was created by Hitler was not based on any factual evidence. The campus cafeterias will continue to still serve lasagna, but students won’t be forced to eat it.

  13. There was an interesting discussion over the weekend on IT about this Utah WR prospect which originated from someone posting that Sark recently followed him, and then poster who knows the prospect and follows BYU closely posted a bunch of info about him. He's a very shifty 10.7m guy who might be one of the more underrated WRs in the country, but he (and also his win brother who the poster thinks is a 10.3s guy but isn't sure, and is a CB) will be going on a two year Mormon Mission out of high school. BYU, Oregon, and Utah have been recruiting the WR brother hard while also trying to keep him under the radar, but their dad played with Sark and Margin Hooks, so Texas is aware of them. The poster says that he's nearly a BYU lock, but that if Texas offers they might actually have the second best shot at landing him due to Sark's experience with Mormons, handling their missions, and understanding their culture and being able to recruit to it. https://247sports.com/player/dominique-mckenzie-46109225/ https://247sports.com/player/marcus-mckenzie-46111868/ Anyway, I'm posting this not because I think we'll necessarily be a factor with the WR or both brothers, but because the posts help show that we shouldn't be surprised if Sark starts being a factor in some big time Utah/Mormon recruitments due to his experiences at BYU, Washington, USC, and even helping to recruit some to Bama. Some kids will go to BYU no matter what, but Sark might be able to land some of these kids over Utah, USC, Oregon, Washington, Stanford and Bama, the other schools who have had success when the kids don't go to BYU

  15. Why do so many want to take sides? Isn't it possible that absolutely everyone involved in this story, from the Markles, to the Royal Family, to Piers Morgan and Oprah, are all complete sacks of shit who don't merit anyone's attention other than as soap opera distraction material? If we're all just arguing in the same way people might debate the merits of which bachelorette should be chosen (i.e. knowing full well it's fake bullshit and doesn't matter but serves as some form of low brow entertainment) then I guess that makes sense. Seems like a lot of you are actually upset one way or the other about this. Rich, talentless ass wipes argue with each other with no actual consequences and they're all still rich. Film at 11. I look forward to the reunion special when the kids are grown.

  16. Anyone involved with religion will share this wisdom with you: "converts are the worst." Carpetbaggers coming in and being hyped-up, pretend caricatures of what real Texans are is killing us. We're not being governed by Texans, we're being governed by cartoon versions of them.

  17. How long into their terms did Reagan and Trump step down with their obvious declining cognitive abilities? I'll give him at least that long. Biden's old as shit and I was against nominating someone as old as him in the first place. But he's not as impaired as you want to pretend he is, and he's definitely no worse off than Trump. He's also not an evil POS, so that gives him more leeway as far as I'm concerned.

  18. Yep. Now that I only have to see Texas politics from afar, the superiority complex of Texans is laughable. You're a joke of a state government, fucking FitLump is on the city council of Austin and you're in the bottom third in healthcare, education, opportunity, crime and natural environment. Double the national average for uninsured Fatter than the county as a whole Sit in traffic for hours a day because the state doesn't seriously invest in public transportation Roads are worse than the national average Median household income is lower than the national average Higher poverty rate Incarceration rate is over 100/100k residents higher than the national average Violent crime rate higher than the national average Days with unhealthy air quality higher than average Drinking water violation points higher than the national average But MUH TEXAS ECONOMY!

  21. You don't really even have to delve into partisan politics to make the point. One race, being historically advantaged, has better access to healthcare than the race that's historically disadvantaged. That means the disadvantaged race has more of the "critical comorbidities" (and less awareness of them) and fewer options for treatment if the virus hits. One race is more likely to work a job that can't be done from home and tends to require social contact, the other doesn't. A point that a lot of whiteys seem to miss is that no one has to be being actively racist currently for the system to have been and continue to be stacked against that race in small but aggregately very meaningful ways.

  24. Even sight unseen on the merits of the issue itself, who would you rather align yourself with? Quan Cosby or Caden Sterns? Which one of those two better represents the traits and values you more closely align with as a person? For me that’s a very easy answer.

  25. Carpetbaggers couldn't cause this if we weren't busy voting them into office. So no. Texans can't tell the difference between a Texan and a caricature of a Texan. That's on us as Texans.

  27. And, here it is. I'm not a citizen, I'm a taxpayer. Not only am I not a citizen but a taxpayer, I'm a woefully trod upon taxpayer who never benefits personally for the taxes I pay. I've never needed help. I've lived my life right with no mistakes.* Why can't others do the same? Answer my question and I'll stuff my ears and sing loudly about the market being better at solving problems than the elected officials of the people. You see, the market puts money in charge instead of votes. That's a fine thing. Make America great again with children working substisence wages, Americans starving, trains running off ill-maintained tracks and killing dozens of people while scalding the locomotive crew to death! We can toast marshmallows on the flaming river of Columbus Ohio and admire the many colors of the fishless waterways! The Market! All hail it! It provides for all, just free it. Oh, we destroyed the government, now it's all we have! I can't wait to see what wonder for all the people the market comes up with next. There's money to be made stuffing preservatives into "food" nearly void of nutritional value to address hunger. Let the magic happen. It's a digustingly blind, selfish, and insufferable way to walk through a crumbling world. If you look around and see only simple solutions, the only thing simple in the picture is you. Parade the tired dogma of greed and absolute self-interest all you want. Your audience shrinks every day. *Never drove drunk. Never got a break from a cop. Never took a dollar from Dad after graduating high school (oh, wait, that's supported by taxes, so surely Endicot must have paid his way through a private school!)

  28. For the individuals that choose to ignore the facts from this report and still believe the song is racist, they have options. They don't have to sing it for one. They don't even have to attend sporting events or graduation. Prospective students can choose not to attend. They can attend another school after they cross us off their list. This happens all the time, UT gets crossed of the list for a multitude of reasons. We are not hurting for applicants and we never will being the flagship of this great state. Current students can transfer to another school without racist ties, and good luck with that. And, thanks to the transfer portal, current players can leave as well. This isn't being forced down anyone's throat. This is our song and this is what we play here. This is a win-win-win. Had the song been removed, the vast majority would have lost, and the woke would quickly move on to something else to cancel.

  31. I’m going to push back some on this. It’s overly simplistic to boil all of this down to economics, although that’s obviously a big part of it. Even if you set aside the question of why economic issues seem to impact the Black community more (which pretty easily traces back to a long and storied history of racism), there are access issues that probably can’t be fully explained by economics. There are well-founded trust issues between the Black community and government agents offering medical advice. There are all of the issues that have been brought up in this thread, which are partially economic (which again, is largely a race issue once removed) but also something more. And there’s the persistent unwillingness by “us” to do much about it or even acknowledge the obvious. I think it might be revealing to do an informal study on the history of the popular portrayal of poor people (white? black? young? old?) and how much we collectively cared. I have my suspicions that as the poor became increasingly portrayed as Black our culture became less interested in caring about or dealing productively with the problem, but it’s just a hunch right now.

  32. Piers Morgan is one of the biggest cunts in the history of the world. The fact a poster here uses him to bolster their argument is pretty embarrassing for that person. Piers Morgan makes his living being a provocateur who goes after people. He might top the list of Britons who most need their ass kicked. And yeah, let's talk about the sanctity of the Crown when it protects a potential pedophile in its ranks.
