Also that Champion spark plugs shirt Brad Pitt is wearing is shit hot. I think I might get one.

Yeah, cool shirt but the shit hot part was when he took it off.  55 years old.  Damn.

Saw it last night at the Texas Theater in Oak Cliff, classic single screen theater.  Ran into a bunch of neighbors and friends at the bar.  Old School.  It was the right place to see it.  They dug into archives and found out that Wrecking Crew was licensed to the Texas in its first run, so they were able to secure it for one showing next week right after this film.

Overall, I enjoyed it very much.  And I am liking it more as I think about it.  It's one of those films that not about what you think it's about.  I read a review today that said it was a terrible movie because it was a movie about the Sharon Tate murders and it focussed too much on the two main guys.  WTF?

The look and feel, cinematography, set design, etc. were terrific and DeCaprio and Pitt were spot on.  Great performances.   I give it two thumbs up.

Saw that review as well.   That’s is absolutely not what this movie was about.   This was QT’s chance to give a movie hug to Sharon Tate, and make sure people remembered that she was a gem of a woman with her entire life ahead of her.    The faux ending was placating about how he wished some others had seen the signs beforehand.

That faux ending is also relating to how he wished he’d seen the signs and done something about the Weinstein ordeal.  I think QT is a good person who really feels guilty about sticking up for Harvey in the past.   This was his F.U. to a lot of the seedy shit that goes on there.

He doesnt have to make a public statement about it.  He used his opus to make it for him

Did not notice the speedometer thing. That would have bugged the shit out of me.

Couldn’t have been easy getting all those old cars on the streets all at the same time.

Was Timothy Olyphant suppose to look like Charles Bronson? I kept thinking that. Damian Lewis did look like Steve McQueen, I was surprised by that.

I can’t imagine the speedometer thing was an accident. I love the little nods to the B movies he grew up loving.

It was good, not great. The ending kind of saved it.

And yes, Quentin's foot fetish was turned up to 11 in this one.

For the first time in my life, I bought a ticket to the 8:00 show at 8:15 so I didn’t have to watch the previews at all.

I'd like to go to your theater, it would be 8:30 here

With Pitt in it, maybe you will after.

I liked it even more upon second viewing.   Definitely missed a few one liners in my drunken post movie haze the other night.

“Get this fucking mechanical asshole off my fucking street!”

“Guy said he was the devil and was here to do some devil shit or something.  That’s not verbatim.”

One thing I don’t think anyone has mentioned, and this could be another way of QT distancing himself from the prior arrangements, is the fact that the credit rolls were in a different font than his classic font that is in every other movie of his.

Cliff Booth is instantly a top Tarantino character.

I'm not sure where I rank this but I'm distubred that everyone who has mentioned their top Tarantino films has left Inglourious Basterds out.  That's my second behind Pulp Fiction... Maybe first actually.

Waste of time.

It will get nominated for awards just bc its a Tatantino flick.

I like many other QT films, but this is just plain bad and I'm very easily entertained.

I will be shunned bc I "just don't get it...QT is a genius, you simple-minded moron."

I think people are reading a little bit too much into trying to decipher what QT’s message is.   Who cares what the message is or whether there is anything to get.  Maybe it’s just a really good movie with some fantastic dialogue and cinematography.   He takes a historical setting and twists it into an alternate ending, not too different from Inglourious Basterds.   I’m familiar with the stories of Sharon Tate and Chuck Manson and I got the Natalie Wood references,  but if you’re looking for meaning and purpose I think you’re looking too deep. It’s just a movie made to entertain people, and it does, in QT’s quirky way.  There’s not many movies that I’ve ever seen more than once but I’ll probably watch this one again in 10 or 15 years.

Maybe he'll do an alternate history where she doesn't laugh when Wagoner's and Walken's balls touch, and they don't throw her overboard.

10 to 15 years?  Jesus.  I've watched Inglorious Basterds twice in the past 3 months.

LOL.  I just watched that last night.  I've watched it 3 times since it came back on Netflix.  It's an absolutely perfect movie. Pulp Fiction will always be my favorite QT, just because it came out when I was in college and I saw it 10 times in the theater (at least).... but I think Inglorious Basterds is is best film.  Really looking forward to Once Upon a Time...

There are a goodly number of movie that, when I catch them on.. I'm watching them. Tarantino has a couple in this list and that's one of them.

Best movie I've seen this year. There's just an exhilaration and joy to watching Tarantino movies. Fucking Leo and Pitt are soo good. We need our movie stars and other than these two and a handful full of others it's a dying breed.

Wife and son loved it too. My 15 year old daughter said she hated it but was laughing her ass off during most of the movie. Teenagers.

Wife actually really enjoyed it.   She was laughing her ass off the whole time.  She generally doesn’t like his films, but said she’d even go back to see it again.

Do you guys even Reservoir Dogs? I think it's better than Inglorious Bastards and Django. I have it number 2 behind Pulp Fiction.

I really liked Once Upon a Time but the plot is a bit plodding. Sometimes I felt like QT was cramming two pounds of shit into a one pound bag even with the extended run time, but all of it was still enjoyable. If you like the vibe of 1969 Hollywood and feel the nostalgia of those old movies and TV shows, then you're going to like the film.

Anybody else notice the Don Meredith jersey Sharon Tate was wearing in the last scene when she hugged Rick?

Knowing she was from Dallas, it clicked immediately when she came out in the drive, I said that's fucking Don Meredith.

Loved the movie.

IB, first on my list.  The long fucking scene at the beginning between Hans and Perrier, wow, could have been a movie by itself.  Probably the most riveting scene in any movie for me.  And then you add the bar scene, unreal.

This is me.  Pitt and Leo were outstanding.  Olyphant looked like Sonny Schroyer, that was interesting.  Robin from ST at the end.  Long movie but never got bored.  Had to piss when he went to Italy so missed that part, that was probably around 2 hours.

Movie start time was 8:45.  Left the house at 8:45.  Theater is 10 mins away.  Bought popcorn and drinks, walking to auditorium, another 15.  They were just showing the last preview as we sat down.  Fucking ridiculous, that's 3 fucking hours.

Hell yes.

Both the opening scene with Landa at the dairy farm and the Operation Kino scene in the basement would be amazing short films.  Just incredible film making.

sorry, guy, but clearly you just don’t get it.  tarantino is a genius and if you weren’t such a simple-minded moron maybe you’d appreciate this wonderful film.

The aussie chick (Kurt Russells wife Janet) was the same stunt woman chick who kicked Russells ass at the end of Death Proof.

Also who didn't think George Spahn was gonna look like something out of Texas Chainsaw when he went back there?  Cuz I sure as hell did.

Any love for Jackie Brown?  It's not my top QT movie but it's never really mentioned in these discussions.  It's certainly deserves some love.

Yes. My favorite qt flick.

6-horse Judy in hateful 8 and one of the masked overseers in Django. She was also uma's stunt double for kill bill. She's always enjoyable in tarintino movies.

Apparently burt Reynolds was originally cast as George Spahn.

Huge fan here.

Top 5 all-time DeNiro performance, IMO.

She's a Kiwi. She was also Lucy Lawless' stunt double on Xena. There's a documentary about her. Zoe Bell.

I don’t know why, but I’ve never been a fan of Jackie Brown. Following up Pulp Fiction, my favorite movie of all time, maybe I set unreasonable expectations for it. On my list, it comes in 8th. Right above Hateful 8 and below Django.

They shot it all over LA and redid the facades of places to replicate the look or location (like the old Pussycat Porn theaters).  In a lot of cases they left them up for awhile and it was cool.

Hey Bruin.  This ain't the place, but remind me to tell you the story about the owner of the Pussycat theaters.  Maybe on the real estate thread.

This movie was fucking awesome and I don't get the criticism.  Tarantino keeps getting better at making movies, and you're a bummer if this movie bored you.  I can't wait to watch it again.

Added bonus:  One of the shittiest posters ever in Shaggy/Surly history, Rex Kramer, is likely pissed at a pit bull being a hero of the movie.

I thought the movie was pretty shitty, and my hometown theater sells beer.  I wouldn't recommend anybody paying 12 bucks to see it.   Wait for netflix
