  1. You look at Oklahoma over there and it's just all about the tradition that OU sucks.

  2. This right here. I was raised in a strongly Republican household, and was a member of the Young Conservatives at UT. While my views on social issues have moved left, my fiscal views have remained staunchly conservative. I started to feel left behind when religion started to work it's way into Republican policy. I was able to hold my nose the compassionate conservative movement, but as the religious aspect started to reach deeper and deeper into heart of the party, it began moving further toward the fringes until eventually only the most radical remained. With Trump, the GOP is no longer a political party...it's a cult.

  4. His behavior during his hearing disqualifies him from the job. Anyone who acts like that has no business on the Supreme Court. Adversity reveals a person's character and Kavanaugh showed that he's a partisan asshole who lacks the gravitas necessary for the job.

  5. I’ve been around you assholes since 2011, and I recall the CR being pretty right-leaning during the obama era with cries about budget, bow and apologize, migration, tan suits (mostly trolls there), stimulus and bailouts, Iran, the terror wars, etc. Gotta say I’m actually proud of a huge swath of y’all seeing this administration for what it is and maintaining your traditional conservative views as principles you believe in while verbally standing for country-over-party. Point being this place isn’t a leftist echo chamber, it’s an echo chamber of people who were able to step outside their sphere and calling a spade a spade.

  7. He doesn't even need to be that specific. Here's how a reasonable person answers honestly. "Yes, I over consumed from time to time while in college. I'm not proud of it, but it happened." "Those terms are sexual innuendo. I'd rather not be specific. Needless to say, I'm embarrassed that I would use them in my yearbook back then. I've matured significantly since then." "I don't justify my behavior as a young man. All I can say is that I've matured over the years and am not that person today." And if he's really innocent. "I would never have done what Ms. Ford alleges I did. I have no way of entering her mind, and she may very well have experienced those horrendous events, but I can say unequivocally it was not me who did that to her." But nope. Just yell like a petulant bitch and rail on the Clintons. Fucking despicable person. Overly privileged elitist. Pure political hack.

  8. Iconoclast’s posts are actually disturbing, especially considering his personal history as context. His words aren’t those of a balanced, well-principled individual. He comes across like someone who has no sense of self and fills the void with other people’s ideas. His hole is currently filled with political tribalism, and he comes off personally invested in his tribe being right and vindicated. “A man man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.”

  11. That's an option as well My story from 2013. My daughter is 6 years old and I've got 2 tickets. Take the wife or daughter? Daughter has never been to a game. Wife says "take daughter." Grey, rainy day. We get on dart and it's packed and it's 95% mobilehoma fats. Daughter is intimidated by the crowd and she realizes we're the minority and the majority looks scary. I kneel down and tell her "don't worry, we may not win today, but we'll get to see Bevo and have some fun." She's nervous - she's 6. We're late because DART sucks and stuff happened, trying to get into cotton bowl we hear them fire smokey. That's Whaley scoring a touchdown. I look at her and say "that's a good sign, we better get in there." We get to our seats, the sun comes out, and we experienced gridiron glory that day. Case showed up to ball. Daje housed a punt. Family restroom right behind our seats was a big bonus. Daughter had a smile glued on her face the entire time and horns up. We sang "hey hey hey goodbye" to the land thieves for a large part of the 4th quarter. That day we were loud, we wore orange, and we stayed late walking around eating corndogs and enjoying the Texas State Fair, the proud victors of the greatest game in college football. tl:dr - leave early if you're taking dart; take your kid to this game - you'll make a longhorn for life; ou sucks.

  12. As far as I can tell most of the posters here are disaffected center right people like me who know Trump is a moron and that the GOP has lost every iota of decency. I guess it is maybe a silo for that, but there's still a few leftie posters too, with our token looney right guys.

  14. Negged for perpetuating distortions and obfuscating. Ford's friend says that she does not remember the party but that she believes Dr. Ford. Another witness, Mark Judge, is an alleged accomplice who refuses to face investigators. Judge also claims he has anxiety about public speaking even though his agent shows him as available for public speaking engagements. Ford's testimony was not a spectacle. It was a sober interview where she answered forthrightly about what she recalls and took pains to correct accounts that she could not verify. There is no known motive for Ford to lie. Consider this neg as applying to most of your other posts as well. You're a POS with arms and legs.

  17. It goes without saying but the same people who believed Obama was born in Africa and was using Walmart's in Texas to house prisoners are the same ones who don't believe any of Kavanaugh's accusers.

  18. I just don't understand the point. We can shit in one hand and hope for a better QB in the other and see which fills up faster. You want to say he's average at best. Fine, I'll play along. That pass that he missed to Duvernay in the first quarter was terrible. As "average at best" as he is at hitting his WR, I think his reads are better. He's largely making the right decisions even if the execution is not great at times. As bad as some of his interceptions were last year, he also hit some defenders in the hands last year who dropped them. He's not going that this year. The biggest reason why I think he's a better than average QB despite being an "average at best" passer is what he does as a runner. He's not a 100 yards a game guy, but he has converted some 3rd downs and extended drives with his legs. He neutralizes some of the pass rush which is important with a less than stellar OL. Hell he was our leading rusher last year so he's capable. I'm glad they aren't treating him like a battering ram this year though. I wish he were lighting up the score board like Grier too. It's not who he is, but he's gone from a guy who absolutely loses games to someone who contributes to wins.

  19. We haven't won shit since 2008 and by God, we are on an ugly four game winning streak with a puncher's chance to end OU's playoff run and all I hear is bitching about Sam Ehlinger and where he attended high school. David Ash had his head squashed and I never heard this much complaining. Four fucking game win streak and nothing but negativity. Fuck my life.

  20. Iconoclast reminds me of Rocko. He doesn’t really understand politics and has latched on to a side that makes him feel better about himself even though none of the policies from that side are meant for him at all. So he uses the fact that he’s on the side of the party currently in power and oh gee doesn’t it make him feel smarter and better about himself!?

  22. Can someone explain to me how he's not disqualified by his political rant to start his testimony against "the democrats," "the Clintons," and "the media"? We all know these guys have political leanings but the good ones hide it in their confirmation hearings. This fucking guy goes full party line attack to start his testimony. How on earth can he be expected to be fair and unbiased? I mean, we all know he was hand selected to be biased as fuck, but he's not supposed to admit it in his fucking confirmation hearings.

  23. The GOP is actively conspiring against the United States. Yet Republican voters continue to pretend that these traitors are actually on their side. They have normalized a pathological liar that is a sitting POTUS. Now trying to normalize a fucking SCOTUS judge that lied constantly under oath. Truth doesn't matter. Dignity doesn't matter. Sincerity doesn't matter. Also regarding the discourse on Surly, the only rah-rah Democrat I've noticed on here is David Dennison. So when you GOP dumbasses are trying to both sides an argument, or project the Republican dirty tactics onto us, you're arguing with the wrong people.

  24. And on the limited scope - Dems need to round up affidavits under penalties of perjury and hold a press conference with all these witnesses present and present that case to the public. Stop being stupid. Give me another Gorsuch and I’ll be quiet. This Kavanaugh asshole is everything wrong with the US right now.

  25. This cannot be said enough. We are part of the best rivalry in sports and it is, by any metric, the biggest game in college football this week. It is a game that will define our season. Going to Game Day with signs taking potshots at aggy is, quite frankly, the most aggy thing you could possibly do.

  28. There are several problems with your comments above. 1) who elected you to decide what is an is not a bogus charge? 2) why is investigating an accusation by someone who has been less than truthful in his job interview a problem? 3)Should the standards for a lifetime employment with no oversight have a lower standard than a clerk at McDonalds? Try it, go apply for a job at McDonalds and during your interview have your wife come in and talk about how you raped her and you are a drunken thief, purely unsubstantiated claims, and see if even MCDonalds will hire you. 4) Because you think this is purely partisan politics played by the left, why did the Democrats not do this to Gorsuch when they were clearly pissed off about how that position was filled in the first place? Lastly, your level of analysis needs to be deeper and you should consider seeking challenges to your preconceived beliefs as opposed to seeking out similar minded folks. You also strangely seem to put on a pedestal people that make stupidly simplistic statements that look cute on a bumper sticker but fall apart when even 2 dendrites analyze it (Mark Levine’s comment). And yes, Surly is anti-GOP but you have mistaken that for left-right. There are people on here that believe in fiscal conservatism- but they do not reside in the GOP as we have seen them in practice for several decades.
