This is the 1st year since the CFP started where it was a clear top 3 and you can just throw in the 4th because they are gonna lose regardless. If this exact scenario had happened consistently, then you'd have a point. It hasn't, so you don't.15 points

Bullshit. This season was a perfect example of why it works just fine as is. The right 4 teams get in with no controversy and it takes the whole regular season and some conference championship games to get there. Which is the case just about every year. Would adding some fringe 2 loss outliers and a no-name Memphis and/or FAU team really make it better? Fuck no. This model just makes the regular season so much better than having more teams would. It's one of the most magical aspects of college football and expanding it would fuck that up. And yes, I realize I'm in the minority on this.14 points

Uuuhhhhhh no. The system rewards scheduling for an undefeated season. It clearly discourages out of conference matchups for fear of that one loss, and discourages the ACC and SEC from actually playing their conference opponents (and to keep playing D2 schools). We are sacrificing the first 3rd of the season to make the artificial “push” at the end of the season to only have 1 or zero losses. The rest of the schedule doesn’t mean shit. Just don’t lose. 8 is great. A conference championship is the only real metric college football has that is played on the field. Polls and committees should be saved for politics, not sports. 120+ teams and 12 games. Zero like schedules. And a playoff system based on confirmation bias.14 points

It is just like the essays I have to read from my high school students. "'A Tale of Two Cities' takes place in two different cities. Most books only happen in one city, but this one is different because it takes place in two. You would think it would be a really long book, because it takes place in two different cities, but actually it's as long as a normal book. I guess it's the best of times because the book isn't twice as long as a normal book. But it's the worst of times, because it's kind of hard to understand."12 points

I know one thing. No matter who is hired as OC, this board will be disappointed. No matter who is hired as DC, this board will be disappointed. And that’s exactly right.11 points

Any system where Oregon is penalized for scheduling Auburn rather than South Idaho State is a bad system.9 points

So if GA beat LSU and the “committee” pullled 2 sec teams into the 4, that would be ok? Committees determining champions are for diving and ice dancing. I would prefer conference champions advancing without the all the beauty contest preseason/ in-season spin machinery that ESecPN, CBS, and others push for their own money agenda. It’s less drama and less soap opera using only conference champions, but it’s real. Maybe with realignment there can be enough conferences to produce an 8 team playoff without “committee input”, and yes there will always be weak conferences or down years for certain conferences, but it’s better to settle this on the field rather than the hypothetical/ virtual way people think a certain team will perform against another. See: sec , for the reason this is not working optimally.9 points

Some of y’all need to quit being pussies, you’re not going to watch your team play the #11 ranked team in a bowl game?! I know it’s been frustrating but Orlando won’t be there to rush 6 on 3rd and 18, I say we win and it’s going to fun to watch.7 points

I see more pussies here than at the Dina Shore Weekend in Palm Springs. Don’t know about most of you fair weather fans, but I shall be in the Alamodome New Year’s Eve supporting the Longhorns no matter who is coaching them or not.7 points

back to GH recent Twitter follows. lotta Texas commits. 20 and 21. them specifically. not a wide range of guys. I dont see USC suddenly being interested in a solid commit like Jake Majors this close to signing.day. might be grasping at straws. but I'm trying to convince myself Harrell comes home to Texas.7 points

This is a terrible, horrible, stupid take and you should feel bad about it. It's like when Texas played USC and everybody said, "Oh see, the BCS really does work!" 5 auto bids from the conference champions and then the committee can pick the next three best teams however they want. It gets rid of all the cross-conference beauty contest comparison bullshit and gives every P5 team an objective, legitimate path to make the playoffs. Decide this shit on the field.7 points

I’ll never understand people arguing against more playoff football. If LSU or tOSU has lost, they’d have likely gotten in as an at-large team and lost some seeding advantages...they’d still be in the playoff. ESPN likes 4 teams because of the drama they can manufacture with the totally arbitrary committee and how it drives exclusively blue blood teams. Why do they get to help shape the narrative and forever doom teams like UCF from ever winning a national title? You’re entitled to your opinion but I want 5 P5 champs, 2 at large and best G57 points

I was bored, so I started skimming NFL coaching rosters and one name popped out at me. Mike Kafka is the QB coach for the Chiefs. He's 30 years old, played QB at Northwestern and has worked with Reid + Mahomes for the past 2 years. It's also an incredibly fitting name--UT football has been nothing if not Kafkaesque over the past decade.7 points

OU lost to fucking Kansas State and is in the playoffs. Are you “leave it at 4 so the regular season matters” people just ignoring that fact? The regular season matters to only about 10-15 teams each year because of the polls, no matter how the regular season shakes out. It all depends on how good people think you might be when those first polls come out. Everything else throughout the year is viewed through that lens. Every year the regular season does not matter for about 115 CFB teams. Memphis, Boise, UCF, etc. never have a shot, and no good team ever has a reason to schedule them in the current format. I just don’t see how that’s a good system.6 points

I'm shocked that @BurntEyes is posting that he is pessimistic, dislikes the coaching staff, and is giving up his season tickets. It's a real change from all his other posts this year.5 points

The last championship is getting to be a while back now, and our storied football program is going through a multi-year dry spell. Every year we get sucked in thinking that we will finally turn it around. This arrogant and dysfunctional organization has failed with several head coaches now. The current coach is a lame duck. Teams seem to have figured out our conservative offense, it has even been suggested that we are giving tells on run and pass plays. We have a quarterback that some feel could be elite. He can run the ball pretty well but he does have a noticeable weakness in arm strength. In fact, our entire roster is viewed as pretty talented, although this hasn't translated into much success on the field. Our special teams are bad and the coaches don't seem to be teaching some of the fundamentals of football like tackling. We have lost some close games this year, we seem to find creative ways to screw around and lose. The team is literally being laughed at around the country. If the coach is fired, some people (Including Myself) would like to see Urban Meyer brought in to see if he can turn this thing around. - Dallas Cowboys or Texas Longhorns?5 points
