Well, see, GRHorn thinks that “all the media” takes direct commands from Pelosi like Fox does from Trump. This may come as a bit of a shock, but the rest of the country doesn’t do things like Trump and Fox do. Not even fucking close. This whole discussion is one of GR’s dumbest fucking trolls, and that’s saying a lot. Fuck off, troll.16 points

This is one correct answer. The other is that your version of old Austin died when you turned 30. My dad and his friends bitched all through the 80’s about old Austin dying. I enjoyed my version of old Austin in the 90’s and started my bitching in the mid-2000s. My kids currently are enjoying enjoy their version of Austin very much but will be bitching about it by the 2030s. Austin evolves to tune of the young people. You can call that “old Austin dying” but it’s really just you getting old.12 points

I haven't read through this whole thread, so this has surely already been pointed out... There are a ton of audio and video clips out there recounting Rush's racism, bigotry, and general meanness. But I think that - by far - the worst thing he's done is something he says 50+ times every show. "Liberals hate America." "Liberals want to destroy this country." "It's just another example of how liberals are pure evil, folks." That shit has taken a giant toll on this country. After decades of repetition, his audience has heard it so much that they swallow it down like a cult. Nobody flips on the AM radio and then thinks critically and says, "Yeah, I have friends/family with liberal politics, and I know for a fact that they are not a demon who wants to destroy America." Rush has done as much to divide this country as any person alive. And he is the personification of hypocrisy. He rails against immigrants, and in racist-coded language (e.g. "thugs") he argues for stiff penalties for criminals. Then he goes back to his mansion and sends his undocumented housekeeper to fetch him vast quantities of illegal narcotics. He calls for "family values" and faith-based morality, then heads to the airport to take a private jet to the Caribbean with a woman who is not his wife, and a bottle of viagra prescribed to someone else. As I type that last paragraph, it occurs to me that we shouldn't have been surprised by the willingness of today's white evangelicals to support an obviously immoral and un-Christ-like cult leader.10 points

The vitriol that the right and the GOP has towards Pelosi for tearing up some paper is more evidence that the self-proclaimed "fuck your feelings" crowd are actually the worst pearl-clutching pussy snowflakes that 2020 has to offer.9 points

Holy shit, every time I think I've seen it all from you I come away amazed at how wrong you are about EVERYTHING. From all accounts, Luhnow created this mess by installing a mistrusting and cutthroat culture of "win at all costs." He is lying through his teeth in his comments about the situation, and he will never own up to any sort of wrongdoing. He's a narcissistic, dishonest prick who has damaged the Astros' reputation forever. We deserved to get singled out because of the Taubman shit, and he created that culture and hired those sorts of people. Although I suppose you probably cheered Taubman on, and felt that he got unjustly fired. This is the boys' club after all, am I right? AJ apologized like a fucking man, and you don't like it. That tells me all I need to know about your character. Please go back to not caring about the Astros - these threads were much better then.7 points

Among other things, Trump has normalized treason. You can't support the Confederacy and the Union. Period. And don't give me that bullshit that it's about southern pride. There are plenty of things to be proud of in the South... treason against the United States shouldn't be one of them.7 points

This goes in a “Husbands and the stupid shit they say/do” thread. This morning Mrs. Ace was drinking tea and did that coughing/can’t breath thing you do sometimes when it goes up your nose or whatever. This conversation followed: Me: Are you okay? Her: Yes (says through the coughing fit) Me: Maybe you should go back to swallowing school Her: (once composure regained) “Why? It’s not like that’ll impact you anytime soon.” I have failed, gentlemen.6 points

Coach G was Hustling... 😂 Roach: "Pollard-Collins said that she thought the decision was based on location and the relationship Alfred had with Texas defensive line coach Oscar Giles. Regardless, she admitted that the decision was a tough one to make. “I want to say it was probably location,” he said. “Just the family. Coach Giles just really developed a relationship. We felt good about it, and he felt good about it. All of the coaches did a great job. The final three did a phenomenal job building relationships with us. It’s not as easy as people will assume it is. I think that final say-so was based on Alfred’s heart.” Alfred also indicated that he had a strong relationship with Giles. He felt that the Texas assistant was the best candidate to develop him on and off the field. “I just like the way he coaches,” he said. “I like him as a person, and I feel like he’ll develop me to be the best player I can be.” Pollard-Collins was able to meet many coaches during her son’s recruitment, but she said that Giles came across as authentic and took the extra steps to forge a meaningful relationship. “Coach Giles is real,” she said. “He’s like the uncle. He cares about him. He was really awesome because he would come to his sister’s basketball games. He would take the extra step and that really meant a lot to our family to come and support them and ask his sister how her game went. It was truly about family, and that kind of solidified his focus. It was about Alfred, but it was also about the family itself, so that was something that really stood out.”6 points

You know, I take issue with people saying Rush, Trump, and other charlatans like them are “smart.” They’re not stupid, but they’re not especially smart. What sets them apart isn’t any special intelligence, UT rather their willingness to tell a gullible audience what they want to hear, in order to reap personal gain. That doesn’t take any special intelligence. All it takes is a complete lack of moral compass or any external guiding moral principles. It requires that you be, essentially, a sociopath. There’s no genius in that at all. It’s just that they made a choice to advance themselves by lying to people and manipulating them. And it works, but in terms of money and power. Most of the rest of us choose differently. If the rest of us didn’t have any ethics, we might make more money or accumulate more power. But we don’t. Because we’re not fucking sociopaths. There’s nothing to admire about these men.5 points

No idea how this will be on tapa but I did a grilled chicken sandwich that turned out phenomenal. Started with a spicy honey mustard sauce made with stone ground mustard and hot Cajun spice. Rubbed the chicken thighs with a mixture of salt, pepper, smoked paprika, cayenne and garlic powder. Grilled and served with toasted bun, bacon, pepper jack, sliced avocado and honey mustard.4 points
