You gotta love how Abbott is abdicating all responsibility and is leaving everything up to the localities to decide. Plastic bag ban? Can't have that. Gotta have everyone on the same page, can't have some "patchwork" of laws. Coronavirus? Meh, do what you want. What a fucking bitch ass motherfucker.18 points

Hahahaha. Holy fucking shit. You don't know what in the fuck you are talking about here, but you've got a spreadsheet or some article to lean on, and dang it, these are the fucking facts! Right. You don't know shit about how data from the classroom is impacted by variables being adjusted in the chaos of real world exercises. You know how I know? Because you, and the others shrieking just like you, have shown us. Even slight tweaks in behaviors or conditions of variables in real world big data/chaos exercises have been proven time and time again to even violently impact expected results. The "we're not doing enough!" howling appears like it won't end until martial law is imposed across the country. Only until we've fully empowered the police, the semi-military, and the military to protect us from ourselves will some of you be happy. In truth, substantial shifts in behavior have been occurring for 3 weeks now. Stop conferences and business travel? Done before Italy shut down. Stop sporting and entertaining events and request social distancing? Done two weeks ago. Close the schools? Done mostly 2 weeks ago. Close borders, put hot zones in lockdown, encourage or require WFH? Done, done, done. Close restaurants, bars, Vegas, churches, mosques, synagogues? Yep. Require social distancing and see social distancing shaming explode in the shithole hell of the social media sphere? You bet. You can point to anecdotes of here and there dumbasses or small towns ignoring shit. Fine. The curve began to be bent 3 weeks ago and things have gone virtually full tilt towards bending it once it started. Acting as if we're straight-lining into perpetuity is either an agenda push or ignorance. Also, yeah it's still a big deal. A lot of people will die. It's going to suck and we're all probably going to know plenty that pass. Some of us might die. But you guys are being ridiculous with your nonsense on this shit. We've given license over the last few weeks to the worst kind of kooks to come out and offer their esteemed opinions, stating them as facts, to be passed on virally in social media. Nevermind the math dorks and quants who become so committed to their data sets that they forget that the real world isn't a fucking quantifiable equation.11 points

Made a quick run to HEB. Mrs.Brat went in with her mask & gloves - she knows where everything is- spent 15 minutes getting a bunch of stuff, canned goods, 2 hams, 5 lb roll of hamburger, sausage, V8 juice, Cranberry juice, etc. I saw a mom & dad go in the store with five small kids (baby up to 6) like it was a lark, with the kids running around. she said store was not crowded and everyone was SDing. wiped everything down in the garage before bringing it into the house. She is showering (definitely no pics) and will wash our clothes. wiped car seat interior too.10 points

Kill them. solved without CPS. Seriously though, and not sure if you wanted an opinion but you know I'm game; 1) be the example of making the right choices for your own well being, not just during a crisis but consistently day to day for your family. When you remind them of the better choice to make, it should resonate, "yeah, Dad's not just being a dick, this is the way we live." 2) raise a child that doesn't believe in being part of a pack, and that doesn't mean the boys scouts or other organizations, but just following the crowd. Yeah, they have their friends, but they march to their own beat when it comes to their decisions. Maybe we just got lucky as hell on this front. Our boys would call us at 9:00PM while attending a party lasting till midnight or later, before they could drive, " Come get me. They say they are going to start some fires( not the fire pit in the back yard variety.) I'm out. " or " hey they're drinking and someone just brought out pot. Come get me." 3) the coaching happens before the game. They should know before shit hits the fan what mom and dad are going to say. They should also know what the RIGHT decisions are. Sure they're human and take risks/ make mistakes; but how have you talked through them before with the kid? Are you bitching at them, or making them understand what is right and wrong? Cheap advice, for sure. I'm damned sure no expert, but we raised 2 boys who do what the fuck they are supposed to. Again, when it came to real life shit as opposed to some random discretionary act; they knew what we said was what they had to do. It was what WE had to do, such as abiding by the quarantine/ shelter in place would be for teens right now. It was part of living under that roof. It should be part of your relationship that lasts through adulthood. The questions and discussions we've had into their 20's are every bit as important and weighty in life, only now, it's about leadership at work; or "Dad, walk me through the questions I should ask when buying a car( keep me from getting fucked!) It doesn't mean they're always going to listen, but the expectations should not surprise them.10 points

I want to give you all props. This thread is level headed full of knowledge and great discussion. Especially since the evidence suggests the exact opposite. Boomers happily throw away their grandkids' futures for a few more years and a few more bucks. They've never given a fuck about leaving a functional earth or society after they're gone. Old people wanting to sacrifice. That's some funny shit. This ain't the WW2 generation we are talking about. Its baby boomers.8 points

I am fully competent to adjudge you an idiot. I get that media is biased. I believe that it is, so I have my bullshit detector fully calibrated and on high sensitivity at all times. But that Breitbart article is a flat out lie. There's no spin there. No editorializing disguised as reporting. It's a complete misrepresentation about what Biden said and the context in which he said it. I also believe that the media probably fucked up by breathlessly reporting every early Trump fuckup as if the world was ending so that when the Mueller Report, impeachment, and now this happen, it all got lost in the shuffle. Tl;dr they cried wolf too often. Also, for the record, Trumps "early" travel ban was next to useless because it only applied to aliens coming from China. It posed no real restrictions on Americans traveling to/from China. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-2019-novel-coronavirus/ It was a half-measure at best, and he sat around with his short thumb up his fat stupid ass for a month calling this a hoax.8 points

EMAWesome, I have personally on multiple occasions on this site pointed out to you that several of the sources you use to get your information is biased propaganda. I have no idea what the real facts are regarding this current bill. Perhaps the Democrats have pursued a really wrong path. What I am sure of, however, is that you continue to demonstrate an inability to understand how you are being manipulated by biased propaganda. Go look up the media bias of Townhall. Why are you unable to distinguish objective information from biased propaganda? Again, for all I know the Democrats could be in the wrong here, but you continue to come across as an uninformed rube when you post propaganda instead of objective, high quality source information.8 points

It's really impossible to overstate how stupid and evil the GOP is. They're evil because they think the choice is between 1) a functioning economy, but 1-3 million Americans die agonizing deaths (while countless others die preventable deaths and/or otherwise go without treatment for serious medical conditions), or 2) a quarantined country in which the economy craters but relatively few die, and they think option #1 is clearly the preferable choice. That is already extremely close to Nazi "useless eater" reasoning, and we've only sort of been quarantined for one fucking week. And it goes without saying that we can actually protect most people from the worst economic impacts, but it would take massive government spending and that's worse than millions of Americans dying to Republicans. They'd rather cause a holocaust than see a single dollar more than necessary be spent by the government to help regular people. Of course, they're also extremely stupid because they think that the economy would keep chugging along just fine as anywhere from 1-4 million Americans died and another 40 million or more had to be hospitalized for weeks at a time, so long as they pretended things were fine.8 points

so it sounds like there might be a treatment that works pretty well https://www.mediterranee-infection.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Hydroxychloroquine_final_DOI_IJAA.pdf “We therefore recommend that COVID-19 patients be treated with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin to cure their infection and to limit the transmission of the virus to other people in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the world.” Can get Fauci to approve this, calm down, and stop the tanking of the economy now?8 points

I have it. I caught it from my brother who has it. His wife has it. My whole family has it. It has the potential to be nasty. I have 2 kids who have had no symptoms and 2 that have had relatively mild symptoms. My brother (46 and his wife 42) have been hit rather hard. They are heavy drinkers and she is a smoker. I still have symptoms on day 6 but they are mild. I started with pain in my neck (lymph nodes) that shot to my head and became a nasty headache. I have not taken any advil or pain killers. I had no fever. No squirts. I have had neck pain, headache, fatigue, cough and some breathing issues. Tonight is day 6 for me and I am feeling better. I had to drive 1.5 hours to get my brother some of the items i posted up thread. He and his wife were on day 9 and were not recovering *danger zone*. No one wanted to go help but knowing I caught it from him, I decided to try. i gave them the myricetin, isatis root extract, and buplerum root extract(helicase, protease inhibitors). She barfed it all up initially. Once she got a smaller amount down, she passed out. I wouldn't say either is in good health. Today, I received a text that she felt 100% better. He was the same. I do not sell any of this stuff. I gleaned the info from the national health library archives. Myricetin is not attainable at this point but the isatis root extract is and mega doses are out there for cheap. Some other things that help. My wife, and 2 non symptom children are in great physical health. They are swimmers and my wife is a dietician, BS in nutrition from aggy. I am almost 50 so I am no spring chicken but do consume a lot of fruits and vegetables, hit them hard. Stay away from processed sugar. Processed sugar kills the immune system.8 points

California has a budget surplus, excellent infrastructure, a proactive Gov. who has served the state's citizens well during this crisis, and is the world's 5th largest economy. But we have no room for any newcomers, sorry.6 points

His point may not have been eloquently stated but most rural hospitals have capacity to handle 1 severe Covid case, if that. Period. Regional hospitals probably not much more. So if a town like Abilene, that serves that city + numerous small towns in West Texas doesn't shut down and there is rapid spread, what are they going to do? They won't be able to just ship them to Dallas or Ft. Worth if those hospitals are already at capacity. So the point is I think the large cities are frustrated with the lack of statewide response knowing damn well they are going to be tasked with picking up the slack. Particularly considering the entire goal of a shutdown in Dallas, for example, is to flatten the curve here to buy time to reduce capacity for the large hospitals. The goal is the flatten the spread and then open things back up. That plan doesn't work so well if the rest of the State doesn't do anything and dozens of Covid patients from towns that went on with business as usual are being shipped in daily from all over the state. I hope a lot of the smaller towns throughout the state are making smart decisions and I'm sure plenty are.6 points

https://www.yahoo.com/news/why-nobel-laureate-predicts-quicker-210318391.html Michael Levitt, a Nobel laureate and Stanford biophysicist, began analyzing the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide in January and correctly calculated that China would get through the worst of its coronavirus outbreak long before many health experts had predicted. Now he foresees a similar outcome in the United States and the rest of the world. While many epidemiologists are warning of months, or even years, of massive social disruption and millions of deaths, Levitt says the data simply don't support such a dire scenario — especially in areas where reasonable social distancing measures are in place. "What we need is to control the panic," he said. In the grand scheme, "we're going to be fine."6 points
