  1. Problem with Chinese documents, you burn ‘em, then an hour later, you have to burn them again.

  4. 1.) Do you really think CFB is going to cancel the season? Too much money at stake. 2.) This is bullshit. If people would have just worn masks and not gone out to the bar, we'd be playing football this fall 3.) What if we go with no non-conference? If we test everyone, everyday we could do this. DKR at 50% capacity for the season. Ok, we'll form a SEC/ACC/Big12 alliance. Big 12 will have a 9+1 season. 4.) Fuck. No football for the fall?! We could have won a national championship this year with Sam. Damn. I really just feel bad for the kids (but it's really about themselves). What's the point in renewing my season tickets anyway if they just cancel seasons like this. What is the point of Saturday without football? 5.) Well, we tried our best. 2021 is our year! We're at #3. Still 2 more stages of grief to go.

Go to Aldacos and get yourself a large margarita and some puffy tacos and forget this place exists for a day and then come back. It will do you some good.

  7. The hell you will. He's got a two day head-start on you, which is more than he needs. Workswithseed's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan. He speaks a dozen languages and knows every local custom. He'll blend in, disappear and you'll never see him again. With any luck he's got the grail already.

  9. What’s awesome is how full of shit he is. I give that test 20 times a week. I used to give it even more when I ran a brain injury unit. And I don’t give it to anyone who’s a questionable genius. No, we give that when we think you have dementia. Fucking bozo. Edit: 'they say, wow, how did you do that?' LMAO - no doctor has ever responded like that, unless you have someone who zero doubt has dementia and pull that out of their ass. Only the people who I give an extra pudding cup to get that type of response.

  17. At my Houston hospital we are now opening up a third COVID ICU overflow and a third medical/surgical and stepdown COVID overflow. We also now have travelers on our units as more nurses are calling off due to having COVID. I came onto shift the other day and saw an oxygen tank in our break room. I thought that was odd, and found out that one of the nurses couldn't breathe during her shift and she had to take a time out and get supplemental oxygen. A few days later she ended up testing positive for COVID. We have access to IPads now for our patients which brings about some heartbreaking conversations. A daughter was pleading for her dad to show some sign of life while he sat motionless on the ventilator. He's been off sedation for days but he is still unresponsive. One of our long stay COVID patients passed the other day. Her oxygen saturation read 1% on the ventilator. The lowest I have ever seen is in the 60s with a good oxygen saturation being between 90-100%. While I was watching one of my unstable COVID patients through the window yesterday an IT contractor came up to me and told me that I should try to get COVID. I laughed and then stopped once I realized he was actually being serious. He said that we need herd immunity and that he had already gotten COVID to protect himself. I told him I'll pass on that on the off chance that I myself end up where my patient currently is.

  20. China can be contained. It can be punished without resulting in pushing them into a full warrior setting. 1- Food is a problem for them. Stop letting them purchase US food producers. Pork industry is a great example. 2- Keep up pressure on the government of Burma (yeah, I called it that) which is how they will remove the threat presented by the Malaca Straits. This checkpoint is where most of their oil comes through. Plus fuck their Generals and the years of genocide being committed. 3- Slowly push for US companies to divest from China. This does not happen fast, but with incentives at the State level it can be done. Hell, encourage investment into new areas (Latin America, etc). this would result in higher prices for the US Consumer, but do we really need all that crap sold at 5 and Below? 4- Expand our push to slow down/halt the Silk Road program. Sri Lanka saw the impact and other countries took notice. Kenya gave China the Mombassa-Nairobi train project. Now they are being threatened since the loan was so crappy for Kenya they are going to default. China wants control of the port of Mombassa. Kenya said fuck off, and gave Parsons the accompanying high way project which surprised a lot of East Africa experts. Pakistan is rethinking their role in the program. 5- Modify how we let Chinese Nationals study in the US. Encourage their inclusion in humanities, less in Tech. Fuck em, they can develop their own. At the same time closely monitor Chinese participation/funding to US Universities and the open recruitment of US trained academics. Stories about this broke in February of this year, but were overshadowed by other events. 6- Reengage with the international bodies we have allowed China to take over (WHO is a great example). Yes, this takes a change in leadership, but I think this is coming. As previous posters said, containment takes all the Western Democracies to participate. 7- Continue to expand military roles with Southeast Asian and Pacific Rim nations. Aussie navy was harassed today per a report I saw this morning. Every time some shit like this happens make sure it is on the news. Propaganda has a place. Use it. We have the tools. Yes, there are problems with how we are structured now, but this can be changed. I am sure the Surl brain trust can expand on these, but just some thoughts while reading this.

  21. Well one reason the current extent and ridiculousness of gerrymandering is so bad is it has substantially decreased the number of competitive districts. In a competitive district, each party has to nominate a candidate that is at least acceptable to some members of the opposing party, providing an incentive against nominating, say, a dozen QAnon freaks. In a non-competitive district in which someone only really needs to worry about winning a primary, the incentives run the other way: the craziest asshole will probably win, because the craziest assholes in the base are the ones that turn out for primaries. When you draw the districts in a way that maximizes the number of competitive districts, you get more moderate politics. When you maximize the number of safe seats your party can possibly hold, you get a bunch of dumb, crazy assholes who want to destroy democracy to maintain their power, which I hope you understand really pisses the rest of us off.

  22. End the 1033 program. https://www.justsecurity.org/71428/congress-must-seize-this-chance-to-help-demilitarize-law-enforcement/ In particular, Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) has introduced a bipartisan amendment with Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Rand Paul (R-KY). If passed, the amendment would prohibit the transfer of, among other items, bayonets, grenades, grenade launchers, certain high-caliber firearms and ammunition, tracked combat vehicles, weaponized drones, and asphyxiating gases. It also includes provisions that would help prevent the use of equipment provided through the program against peaceful protests and that would institute much-needed transparency and accountability measures. House lawmakers, too, have an opportunity in the NDAA process to pass essential 1033 reform. Rep. Hank Johnson’s (D-GA) Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act, which the House previously passed with bipartisan support as part of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, has been introduced as an NDAA amendment.

  23. While your reflexes are still functioning, are you genuinely arguing that we don't have less international diplomatic support right now than we did 4 years ago? The problem with lifelong GOP fanboys like you right now is that you're the one who simply reflexively flies off the handle when Trump's name is mentioned (as the beginning of your post proves). @wildcat09 said his name along with the GOP one time to make a point. You went all weird with it. The reason you get so defensive about it is because deep in your core you know that your party is rotten and that the higher-ups in the party structure have sold their soul to a complete piece of shit. The sight of the phrase "Trump and the GOP" bothers you because it disgusts you, not because you think it unduly bothers others. Do a little self-reflection, man. When your party has rotted all the way through and embarrasses you, liberals aren't the ones you should be lashing out at, your party's leadership are the ones who deserve that. And you know it. You've been on this board accusing people of Trump derangement syndrome for years while they told you what was going to happen. Now that it's actually happening, now that all those things you thought were fantastical because "he's not actually that bad" have become reality, you're ashamed that they were right and you were wrong. Turn that shame inward.

  24. I never stop getting a kick out of all of the mediocre men who think she's dumb. AOC has wildly exceeded my expectations and is, in fact, awesome. She doesn't have to be Stephen Hawking. She's smarter and works harder at what the actual fucking job is than 95% of the House, at least. In 2010 the Republicans elected a lot of "non-politicians" who, with literally one exception (Amash), wanted nothing more than to be seen on television playing a role while supporting whatever legislation ALEC shoved in front of them. Nearly every Republican in Congress is just some dumb, dull, and shitty wannabe actor playacting the culture war to distract their constituents from noticing that they're not ever doing their actual job. AOC is far from perfect, but is so much fucking better than any of those schmucks at the actual job.

  26. Until Bill Brasky just gave us his brilliant take I was unaware that all the black people in Chicago wanted conservative gun owners like himself dead. Its actually a stunning admission into the minds of guys like Bill Brasky and what they’re all about. They are afraid. Afraid of their own shadow and just a bunch of gigantic pussies who should not be taken seriously.

  33. Playing college football this season would be massively fucking stupid. I want it as much or more than a lot of people here, but come on guys it's about as dumb as opening the bars too early. Student athletes can't be made to play amid the pandemic for us. The NFL guys are professionals and can do as they please.

  37. I knew when I paid for the tickets in April that I'd never get to use them-- just wanted to keep my seating priority. I've had my seats for 30 years and I'm not about to quit now, but there's no way my 53-year-old double-cancer-survivor ass is going to a game until it's safe to do so. I love football, but my immune system is a shitstorm and I'm not an idiot. My answer to the survey was a solid "I will not be attending," and UT's response basically said "You're down as a no and if you change your mind, you need to call us ASAP." I was also told I'll get a call in mid-August about my refund options. Of course I will let them keep my Foundation donation, but I'm gonna want that $2000 for tix back. I do appreciate that UT is offering a refund as an option and not just a credit-- I imagine that many other organizations/schools will not be doing so.
