if only someone had told us months ago that the president was a lying piece of shit only interested in reelection, things would've gone so differently.32 points

If your biggest problems with Trump are the bolded....and not the fact that he's a pathologically lying malignant narcissist who believes that the nation exists to serve his whims, and not vice-versa.....you MIGHT be a giant piece of shit.20 points

i'm starting this as a new thread, because i think this is a much bigger story worthy of its own thread and not to get lost in the daily minutiae of donald trump's 2020 thread. this is truly incredible. the president sat down with a reporter, basically in an open ended unstructured type of discussion. he did this with not just any journalist, he did it with the guy who helped bring down richard fucking nixon! and if you're old enough to remember (i'm not), or if you've studied watergate, what actually brought nixon down? it was the fucking tapes! and the president agreed to being taped by this reporter who wrote the fucking roadmap on how to take down a sitting president! why on earth would trump agree to do this? how could kellyanne conway allow this to happen? this has been ongoing from fucking february through july of this year, all through this pandemic. and trump was on the record, the whole fucking time. what did he think would happen? i know, i know, ah! well. nevertheless, his ego is so incredible, he thought he was doing himself a fucking favor by doing an interview with woodward. he should resign over these admissions, on tape, no less, that he was basically deserting his duty as president and was fucking with the public health trust. but he won't. nevertheless, he should. fucking hell. i mean, none of this surprises any of us, does it? but now the usual suspects cannot hide behind "unnamed sources" etc. the fucking president is there, saying it on the fucking tape. what a fucking egotistical moron. https://apnews.com/c9f35842f7bb355be72842d15a8f7c0214 points

aggy and the recruiting services are both circling around the problem but missing the actual issue. Texas players aren't soft. The style of football is not so ubiquitous that it creates a vacuum of defensive talent that can only be solved by kids from Jersey. The issue is that you have to be much more aware of upside and doing more complete evaluations. The Texas kids (and when I say this, you can add most of the Cali and suburban Georgia kids as well) have played A TON more football than those kids from the NE corridor. Tens-of-thousands more reps against other players that have played 1,000s more reps. Texas HS QBs are ready to play so much earlier than other QBs because they've seen more complex defenses and run more complex offenses than their counterparts. Coaches don't have to spend valuable practice time teaching common route trees in Texas. The kids have run them all and can also read combo coverages when they come in to high school as 9th graders. The Texas coaches don't have to spend near as much time teaching hand-fighting on the LOS - because the kids do it with their trainers. On and on. It does create a plethora of guys in each class that are physically maxed out, or close to it, but are really good at football. Guys that have really good film and have played a crapton of football. These are guys that can be over-rated but can also help your team and provide quality depth. They ARE better football players because they have put their Gladwell 10k hours in. The downside is that if they end up long-term multi-year starters you will lack athleticism. (see Brian Williams, the Green bros, Stripling) the 9.95ers aren't adjusting to these guys and are super reluctant to drop guys that were rated high early, because of their early varsity productivity as FR/SO but who are clearly maxed out. aggy has signed numerous guys that simply don't have the athletic profile of a plus NCAA/NFL athlete. Luke Matthews isn't soft - he is athletically limited. You could see that in every setting where he played against D1 talent, on film and in camps. Max Wright had bad knees at 17, signing him and then adding a bunch of weight doesn't mean Texas players are soft. It means that they did a poor eval. RJ Orebo weighed 11 pounds at 6'9" -- he's not indicative of Texas players being soft. He's indicative of a terrible eval. Going to get Adarious Jones didn't press the magic "now we're physical" at DT button. Do you honestly want to compare him to T'Vondre Sweat and talk about physical presence? It's the fucking evals. There are Texas kids playing defense all across the country and they are fucking good. That take is lazy and stupid.14 points

Already seeing "HE WAS JUST TRYING TO PREVENT PANIC" as some sort of a defense. Look, if a bear is heading towards a school, I can be convinced that keeping everyone calm is a valid strategy. But, during that period of calm, you need to fucking do things to prevent the impending attack. If, while doing nothing to actually deter the bear, you just tell everyone that there are no bears coming, but even if one was coming bears are actually friendly and hey let's all go roll around in raw meat because seriously there's nothing to worry about and the only people worried about bear attacks hate our country... well, when the bear makes its way inside, you made things worse you fucking idiot.8 points

Sturgis shouldn't have happened, and there's no doubt in my mind that it created several thousand cases via secondary spread, but there is no chance it caused 250,000 cases and that study was incredibly poorly done. BrazilHorn made the point that there's enough to worry about without needing to embellish and use junk science. To take that further, boy-who-cried-wolf publications like this are partially responsible for all of the idiots we have running around both this thread and our country thinking that Covid is purely media hype and is no worse than the flu. Some of said idiots are regular posters in this very thread.8 points

Why is the “BUT MY FREEDOMS!” crowd so bad at analogies? Mountain climbing is only dangerous to the person taking the risk. Unlike say, driving while intoxicated, which is illegal because of the risk it poses to third parties. If you think driving while intoxicated should be legal, well, you’re quite the anarchist shitbag but I guess at least you’d be logically consistent.8 points

Fuck Donald Trump and everyone else in his administration whose job it was to act responsibly on that information well before it reached Bob Woodward. Fuck the Senate Republicans who ran a sham impeachment trial instead of holding Trump accountable for his crimes and removing him from office so maybe, just maybe, we might have had a national strategy to deal with the virus. (Although with Mike Pence in charge that wouldn't have been a certainty.) Suppose Woodward wrote a column in the Post and went on CNN warning that Trump told him the virus was really dangerous and he was just playing it down. Would that have changed anything? Trump would've just declared it "Fake news!" and gone right on mismanaging our response. It wouldn't have mattered. Just like it's not going to matter now. We still don't have a national strategy and Trump is still sending mixed messages, setting bad examples, discouraging mask use, and pretending the problem is already behind us.7 points

Yeah, Fauci is definitely the problem with our response to COVID. Not the big cheese lying to the public about the threat and dangers of the virus and encouraging people to ignore public health measures like mask ordinances and social distancing7 points

woodward is a journalist who had access to trump. dozens of journalists with access to trump were questioning him and exposing him as a fraud on the daily starting in early march. it would be cool if someone like woodward had the juice to be like, "hey listen everyone, here's what's really going on" and then everything would change. but wishing doesn't make it fucking so. we should be grateful that trump was bone-headed enough to sit for 18 hours of interviews with woodward and that these tapes will be leaked starting today and leading up to the election so that the next four years aren't so fucking disastery.7 points

Not really a "funny" thing, but Mrs CL and I had a disagreement last night about something benign - I think our 6th grader's bedtime was part of it. She came into my study looking for a fight, right in the middle of me and my college buddies' annual fantasy football auction draft. I literally told her, "I don't have time to indulge you with a dumb fight right now. This can't be paused and I'm not going to get up from it. You're just going to have to be mad on your own." She stood in the doorway for about 2-3 minutes just grimacing and glaring at me, then stomped off and apparently spent the night in the guest bedroom. I got up this morning and she was fine. She made coffee and was doing the breakfast dishes. I didn't bring it up and she didn't appear to hold a grudge. Just an example of one of the hardest things for most young guys to learn (at least it was hard for me to learn), that women don't need to be coddled and have their ass kissed every single time she's mad. Sometimes acting like you just don't care that she's mad works just fine.7 points

I mean....y'all are all about decrying violence, yet there are open rallies where your right wing buddies call for Democrats to be shot dead in the street: So, you know, openly calling for the murder of all of your political opponents. Cool, cool. I mean, shit, your Dear Leader has openly called for the imprisonment of 1) his immediate predecessor in office and 2) his current opponent. It's not ambiguous, it's not subtle -- he has literally called for them to be imprisoned, repeatedly. You stand with an authoritarian piece of shit, who inspires murderous chants and applause, and has actually inspired someone to go shoot up a store full of people with last names like mine. That's your guy. That's your movement. Quit running away from it, you gutless piece of shit.7 points
