  1. Kind of funny story. I attended Friday Night Lights camp in Gainesville when Urban started it up. It was pretty well known at the time as a way to get acquainted with runners, Uncles and "trainers". Trainers weren't really trainers back then, just another name for Uncles. One guy that was pretty well known for helping get recruits to UF introduced two highly rated kids to each other in the stands in front of me. He told them they were cousins and they should start reaching out to each other. After the kids left, another guy asked him if they were actually cousins. He just replied, "probably". End scene

  2. For the people who were asking why Murphy was ranked so high, check out this video. There’s just not many people on this planet who can throw the ball like he does. If he can clean up his mechanics and some other little things, then he could be a great take, but you’d like to see him make some progress on those things before you take him. Unfortunately there hasn’t been much opportunity to see it yet.

  4. A&M is aggy, it's "brakes," it's "Hook 'em!" and your odd capitalizations are sending signals you may have taken an aggy 100 level English class. I've refrained from negging you so far, but the burden is on you. Don't sound too desperate or get too cute, otherwise fatwa will commence quickly.

  7. I've just caught up on this. I think it's a poor habit to dismiss amateur operatives or those dabbling in amateur operations for the right as stupid. Not merely because it's rude, but because it leads to underestimating how effective their tactics can be. Google AOC Meme. Two rows of right-generated memes claiming she's an idiot. Ironically, most of the memes are idiotic retreads of past pollack jokes. A person coming here seeming to see both sides but then dropping some bombs comparing Ocasio-Cortez to Smollett then making a false claim about the left being unyielding defenders of Smollett (suggesting that one day they will realize AOC is just as bad?), and then back-peddling in hopes of seeming reasonable is not being stupid. That process is a strategy. It's the same old strategy of the hate engine. I remember listening to Limbaugh when all I got was AM radio in my old truck. He created a nexus from eco-terrorists putting spikes in trees hoping to harm lumberjacks to environmental wackos to the "Democrat" party. Dems and libs are terrorists by association. Ocasio-Cortez plays us as dupes just as Smollett did. That's not being stupid. That's willingness to embrace being disingenuous so you can get into the game to help your team. What I see is the GOPs going to the old playbook. "Let's argue about how much of an enemy of the state that brown chick from NY is." It's the premise that kills. It did so literally on January 6, 2021. Don't dismiss it as stupid. That's like trying to deal with an infection by yelling at it.

  9. Tampa was a garbage, albeit talent laden, organization going into '20. No chemistry. No cohesion. No leadership. No nothing. Its head coach was a mess. Its QB threw 30 picks last season. Brady took the team over. In the locker room, on the sidelines and everywhere in between. The head coach acknowledged as such. Mediocrity wasn't going to be accepted. Excellence and a championship were the only options. Short of that was failure. Tonight was the end result. Brady imposed his will on the other 52 players on the team. And the coaching staff. They went from trash without a clue to an organized and driven team. No coincidence that acquisition of one player was the difference. And the result was a world championship. Good for Brady The best. Ever.

  12. I mean, all manner of yucky things can be found funny by some but intent is more important than the humor. That dumb meme wasn’t meant to be funny. It was meant to put AOC in the same category of Jussie Smollet - who actually fabricated an attack by MAGAs for attention. Literally none of that applies to what happened to AOC on January 6th. It’s a radical right wing attempt to deflect from the violence and sedition perpetuated by people like GRHorn and make it about the bullshit narrative that AOC is a lying attention seeker. Impressionable yokels see that and it confirms their racist and sexist attitudes and thus becomes truth. It’s dangerous and it is a tactic taken directly from disinformation efforts propagated by our foreign adversaries. Dress up an outright lie in a “funny meme” and studies show that method has staying power in minds primed to believe that garbage more than an article or a tweet. It’s part of the reason assholes like Trump and his merry band of fascists were successful. The plausible deniability by dressing it up as a “joke” gives them cover for disseminating lies and propaganda. So no, stripping away the intent to reduce it to “just for laughs” plays right into their strategy of trying to minimize their complicity and attempts to victim blame and flip the narrative away from the culpability and redirect to blaming the victims. It’s garbage and not the least bit funny. Stripping away the disgusting intent renders any feeble attempt at “It’s just jokes guys! Why so serious?” moot. TL;DR - no, it’s not funny.

  16. "That lady" has a user name. It is @Bama Chick. Since the thread is already somewhat derailed, and to bring it full circle back to what started it down this path, consider that the thankfully removed picture/meme was being used just one month after a Senate candidate spent ten times ($45,000) the amount of an original campaign ad (between $3000-3500) running an ad in which she visibly darkened the face of her opponent. That is fact, and was not only reported by left leaning agencies. As @Bama Chick commented, using race and gender as a weapon against their own 'demographic' but playing it off as a joke is ill-advised. But since Jesse Smollett was brought up specifically; let's go there. I don't recall all of the conversations on Surly surrounding the event, but Smollett was essentially charged with 16 counts (2019) which were dropped, and then in 2020 was recharged with 6 counts of disorderly conduct and as of now is awaiting trial. The pandemic has slowed adjudication so it may be awhile before this is resolved. Based on the recommendation of the Office of the Special Prosecutor, the grand jury charged Smollett with making false reports to the CPD, etc. I won't go into that further, but the former US Attorney in charge of the investigation said that the "prosecution is in the interest of justice." So, Smollett is going to stand trial and face the justice system. Consider now the former President, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, et al who spent time both before (Trump) and after (everyone) the general election on a concerted effort to promote a false conspiracy, rally around this conspiracy, and then foment events with the objective of stopping the ratification of a certified election. Events which have led to death, injury, trauma, and property damage/repair in excess of a million dollars. The lost lives will be forever, hopefully the injuries will be overcome or heal to a certain degree. The property damage is brought up because it pales in comparison to the nationwide property damage (around 1 Billion estimated) with the exception of one teeny tiny thing: a democratic America with free and fair elections and the peaceful transfer of power is priceless. This was not peaceful and it came with a horrible horrible price. Ocasio-Cortez has to return to work daily with the very people who encouraged, aided, and abetted this sedition. She hears them speak in the Chambers, over their social media accounts, in prime time. She receives the death threats on her VM, in her inbox, on the internet. And then once more, she walks the halls and tunnels with colleagues who seemed willing to support her being hunted and killed and when she raises objections, make light of her anxiety and alarm. She was not wrong about it mirroring an abusive situation and how society treats and views women's attitudes about it. Someone banging on the door saying 'police' (and in hindsight-- the number of police among the insurrectionists) many victims of domestic violence have had no way of certainty whether they were to be handed over to their abusers. Anyone see Josh Hawley facing justice? Ted Cruz? Will the former President this week? No. The Big Lie and the coup attempt has always been the Big Lie and coup attempt, and sweeping it under the rug, gaslighting it, and having no REAL accountability foretells that America as a representative democracy is in its final moments.

  21. This man just left the franchise he had played almost 20 years for and won six Super bowls with at age 42, went to a team that went 7-9 and missed the playoffs in the previous season, and won the Superbowl with them in the first fucking year. Absolute GOAT. We will never see another like him. We may see a QB win as much (doubtful) or be a better player but there will never be another Brady. And you know this fucker is going to try and go do it again next year, too.

  27. I received a smug little text message out of the blue from an aggy this evening and they are fully in their classic pre-celebratory mode for their early 2022 success and fully believe they will clean up this next cycle. It’s February after all. Despite the fact they have 5 commits to our 3 and we have a higher average, they are feeling quite proud of Jimbo’s COVID season and are starting to really bleat about it. So seeing an obvious aggy troll pop up and start slinging his shit around is hardly surprising.

  28. Oh fuck off. Most of us “on the far left” - and many people here would laugh in your blank face at categorizing me as such - gave him the benefit of the doubt until the facts came out and then we all roundly condemned him. You need to venture out of your reading of headlines and watching Tucker Carlson. Your act isn’t fooling anyone.

  34. 47, high BMI, asthma, high BP got my first Pfizer dose today at Baylor College of Medicine, through my primary physician. Outside of my medical history no 1B verification was performed. Had a lot of anxiety up to getting stuck as I have a lot of allergies and carry an epipen. No side effects so far except for sore arm This past year has been the most difficult of my life, separated, divorced, work stress ramped up like never before on top of a pandemic. Feel a lot less anxiety now that I’ve got 1 dose in me and scheduled for a second on 2/27.

We’re going to remember 1/6 in the same shorthand way we remember 9/11. You did this, Trumpkins and Republicans. Your encouraged it, aided and abetted it, and stoked the fires for political gain. And you almost succeeded in overthrowing the government. Fuck you to hell, for eternity.[/url]

  37. Speaking as someone who is evangelicalish theologically, evangelicals and their political madness have caused the greatest damage to the stated evangelical cause of spreading the Gospel. They’ve done more harm to the Gospel message than every abortion doctor, married gay couple, anti-prayer lawsuit, and whatever other social issue they claim to care about combined (if these issues hurt the cause at all). From my limited observations, Q beliefs have become deeply imbedded into evangelical churches. I doubt that you’ll find too much pure, uncut Q, but the less insane claims (still a low bar) seem to be easily and widely accepted. A lot of this stuff has become mainstream. I have no hard data; this is just what I’ve witnessed.

  38. Got a worried call from the neighbor last night, “Something is wrong with Charlie and Tommy is at practice, can you come help?” When I got there Charlie was lying in the back yard and couldn’t stand up. He looked really down. I talked to him for a minute and then carried him in and laid him on the couch. He passed a few hours later. RIP Charlie, you were a damn good dog. I feel so bad for my neighbors: Charlie predates all three of their young boys.
