  2. I just went and read the Darla Moore stuff. Wow. Not all large donors behave in such a manner. Frankly, there are some who give to UT who don't ask for much of anything. Sure, others want a fuckton of exposure and credit. That all considered, the continued notion pushed out there by talking heads that UT's donor base is anything but a fucking asset to the university is laughable. Sarkisian does not currently have a bunch of boosters demanding individual hours of his time each week or month, and he and CDC are simultaneously getting a whole bunch of "yes" answers on their asks. There are responsibilities in working with donors who are considering helping on projects, or group meetings across the state and things of that ilk, but that is the same at every school involved with athletics in a big way across the country. Jamail, Denius, McCombs, not that they were bad guys, because they sure as shit were not, but yeah, they were high touch while alive (I don't know the story with where things are at for McCombs health-wise these days but he's not talking to the HC every day the way he expected back in the day), but they also gave something ridiculous like a combined $1+billion to the school and AD in their lifetimes. Consider these basic and recent examples: 1) 8 groups donated $10million each to the SEZ project before it was publicly kicked off in order to give it the momentum it needed to be a healthy financial project to update the stadium. 2) The Moodys provided the major donation to the new basketball arena and allegedly do not require handholding in their relationship with the school or AD. Their gift on this project alone is larger by almost 2x than what that "largest donor ever" at SCar has given in total. They've given way more than that across the AD and school and we don't hear shit about them needing face time with Steve Sarkisian or Chris Beard. 3) The new indoor workout facility expense for football is also quietly committed. That won't be "considered" or "announced" until after the 2 current major projects are completed. 4) Tom Herman's buyout was committed to fully after the Texas Tech game with the only strings being that the $$ wanted to be involved with understanding the process and candidates, as the consensus didn't want change for the sake of change. I guess people can bitch about any involvement, but that's like $500+million in liquidity for the AD without a shit ton of ballbreaking from legendary assholes. Think about how rarely we actually hear anything material about problems from the UT donor side. Idiots like Paul Finebaum and Kirk Herbstreit can throw nonsense out there and the rest of the media and other fans will eat it up, but what were any of the specifics attached to such claims? I have yet to see any.

  5. Also, I'm hoping Texas drops a big chest full of gold coins on a foot of Bear Alexander's "uncle" today and says, "oops, where that come from?" and then Alexander leaves having committed his flaky ass to UT. He'll be a flaming bust wherever he winds up, but it would be a sure sign to us that the game is ... afoot.

  9. This thread is cloak fucked and should be moved there ASAP. A federal income tax on unrealized gains (at ~15 to 30% rates) would be idiotic policy and unworkable. The liquidity issues alone (selling shit to pay the tax) would be a total clusterfuck. Not to mention all the downstream disincentives it would lead to. Also, lulz at the property tax analogy. Even in states where property taxes are crushingly high (Texas), rates are like 1-2%. And they hurt poor and middle class people far more than rich people, due to the "wherewithal to pay" notion. In Austin, for example, just who do you think is being priced out of homes/apartments due to the tax burden when "wealth" increases due to rising property values, but income necessary to pay the wealth tax does not? Change the rates to 15-30% and see if this is workable. Finally, tax is paid on these unrealized gains, either when they are realized through sale (and cash can be used to pay the tax) or at death via the estate tax. It's a timing issue.

  10. Again, this kind of shit can be verified or debunked with a little click research going back to the time in which it all went down. Go check out Warchant before, during, and after the fucking guy left. It wasn't sour grapes. They were wrong with thinking they'd upgrade, but they weren't upset about seeing him leave. This can also be found in multiple local and state write-ups from the time period. Educate yourself beyond the myopia of your own fandom or get owned competing with facts via an indefensible opinion. This is not a safe space for ignorance.

  16. That article is pretty misleading, we don't have wealth tax we have a income tax. Using unrealized gains to then try and illustrate a low tax rate is not really fair. I live in Austin, do I have to count all the unrealized gains in my house value this year and pay taxes on that?

  21. I'm not sure if I fit the alcoholic label or not. Never done much research. But I've been a 2-4 drinks in the evening guy for the last 20 years. Usually I drink more on the weekends. It hasn't effected my personal relationships but has definitely effected my health. I can probably count the number of days I haven't had a drink in the last twenty years on two hands. Finally decided to give a rest and it was really hard stop. But I'm now three weeks in and my body feels better and I'm getting better sleep. Didn't plan on giving it up for good but now I'm thinking it's probably a good idea.

  23. Sadly, it sounds the same way our nation does when we discuss foreign policies. "We ought to just kick their ass." There is no sense of maneuver or strategy; there is only the right now. Pelosi was criticized by many here for capitulating on many issues having to do with the Jan. 6 Hearings. She's weak, we heard. I didn't and don't think so. Here's my reasoning: 1. The Senate is going to kill the bill no matter what. 2. Killing the investigation is a poison pill. 3. To administer the poison pill, some form of the bill must go to the Senate. 4 The main gain for the Dems (and the country in this case) is to force the GOPs led by Mitchell to keep obstructing legislation that is obviously sensible and non-partisan. 5. The bill leaves the House, the Senate GOPs kill it, at least the Dems get a PR victory. They got something from a failed bill. Many observers got stuck in this process decrying Pelosi's concessions. I think she knew what she was doing. I may be wrong, but I'm mainly just trying to illustrate how short-sighted we often are when viewing confrontation. It's all about the skirmish to us as we lose track of the course of the war. The Dems speaking with a unified voice would be a fine thing. My beloved insists that what is needed is a curated assembly of the deceit and bad behavior of the GOPs and Trump so people will understand. I think it's a dead letter. The information is out there. It's everywhere. I don't think anyone doubts the resolve of the Dems in the face of the traitors. Rational approaches fail in the face of irrational, delusional opposition. It may come down to a real fight. I don't want to waste time flicking dingleberries at the traitors in the meantime. Exercise circumspection in strategizing and judging strategy. And keep your powder dry.

  25. No. He should be charged with attempted murder. He is a criminal gangster. And any cop who tried to help him cover for this should be charged as an accessory. If a "gangbanger" in a hoodrat car had pulled this maneuver, that's EXACTLY how they'd be treated. And that's what should happen here. He's a murderous criminal, backed by murderous criminals in his gang.

  27. I honestly don't even have words for this one. She did EXACTLY what she was supposed to, both in terms of practical advice and the actual law......and he still assaulted her, potentially causing her death. I got nuthin' here. Do exactly what you are supposed to do....and the cops will still assault you, maybe killing you, and their department will back them up. American law enforcement is a criminal gang, enforcing their code of omerta, and they WILL kill you. Understand this siimple fact: in any interaction with a cop, the copy may well kill you, and will likely get away with it. In most sane culture, we'd call those people terrorists, gangsters, or somesuch. Here, we have to call them "officer," and treat them with respect, and fly bullshit doctored American flags with a blue stripe to tell them that we worship them and they can do no wrong. And....turn the page, we'll see another incident like this in 3, 2, 1.......because they cannot and will not change. Ever. I'm done. I'm just done.

  28. That's correct. He tried one last ditch attempt to get FSU to match Aggy because he didn't want to leave and Thrasher told him to get lost. When his departure was announced at the Moore Center, people in the building were clapping. Does that sound like they wanted to keep him?

  29. I know that's the narrative at TexAgs but that simply isn't the case. Hearing Fisher's side of it doesn't make it the truth. I'm married into an FSU family that donates a lot of money to that school. The boosters couldn't stand the guy. There are fans who hated that he left but a great deal more who were tired of his bullshit. He was given everything he wanted and asked for but he didn't want to do his part to get it, i.e. fundraising.

  31. So, I dug in a little to verify that what I posted in my HIV/AIDS screed was on point. Guess who was one of Dr. Duesberg's staunchest allies in the failed "HIV doesn't cause AIDS" hypothesis? Dr. Kary Mullis. You know, the guy who was hypercritical of Fauci prior to the emergence of covid. The guy @BabaYaga cites as a leading expert in his Don Juan fever dream where Fauci enabled the engineering of covid. Now, anyone can be wrong, but that's a pretty big swing and a miss and it does tend to point to a less than optimal capability of Mullis to apply critical thought to a complicated problem.
