  1. Wasn't sure where to put this but I chose here because it really shouldn't be at all political. So much negative shit here I thought we could use a little positivity. I wanted to brag on a friend's son. I worked with the father for many years. He and his wife were both undocumented from Guatemala and came here 18 years ago when their son was 5. I watched the son grow up and provided the occasional guidance when asked- sometimes harsh and sometimes easy. I was at the son's wedding last weekend (he is now 23). He studied construction management in college, worked for various firms in the summers, graduated and was just hired starting at $60,000 (being bilingual certainly helped). His wife (also Hispanic) also just graduated with a teaching degree and starts in August at $37,000. Had some tequila with the dad and he commented that he did not think this would have been possible in any country but America. I am sure there are other countries this could happen in but probably not for a poor immigrant form Guatemala. 18 years ago his family was destitute and now his son and wife make nearly $100K combined. The tears were plentiful. So no politics but, in this particular case, proud of the people involved tremendously and proud of America too.

  2. If it helps any, I spoke to a buddy who's been all over the country lately watching guys work in the various camps and talking to coaches and parents. Things still look good for Anderson and Campbell. Everything else is completely unknown because, and I know mentioning this originally created some eyerolls and then everything happened and now it's fucking mantra here, Sarkisian isn't coming across as a closer. Sarkisian super nice and dynamic and recruits and parents like him, but he's not the alpha that other guys are. Yes, that includes the cuckold in College Station. Fisher comes across as a pushy, fast-talking leprechaun but he asks for the deal and works to overcome objections aggressively and makes recruits feel earnestly needed. Sarkisian has attempted to play the "take your time, you'll know when you know, but we'd surely love to have you" maneuver while the competition is clubbing us with "why don't you know? we need you, you'll play early, we win, we put guys in The League, and you'll make your family proud here, so commit today and we'll hold the spot for you and go win titles" approach. The rest of the staff isn't faring much better or worse. They're likely to be a good to great recruiting staff if they can find their bearings and win a bunch of ball games. The support staff? Apparently not good. There may be wholesale changes more sooner than later depending upon how the season goes. Harris needs to go be a beta somewhere else.

  3. I can't believe I read the last 2 pages of this slop. I've learned that Sark could be wetting his whistle, our O-line is eternally doomed and I heard an aggie kind of make sense. I'm out for the weekend. See you all again in 10 to 15 minutes.

  4. Dude, if you’re trying to create some sort of political related whine, fuck yourself. There are alphas and betas in this world, per science. Cuckold is a funny porn term for literally what Fisher is. If those words have some other meaning to you because you’re paying attention to politics or news or the left or the right and whoever has problems or affiliations with those words, that’s on you. I was making a recruiting post and I don’t follow the other shit. I realize that’s all some of you boring clowns see.

  6. should I change the name of the board to simpy horns because you simps need to stop acting like the world is ending when we are more than 4 months away from NSD1 and more than 6 months away from NSD2. Verbal commits are dogshit.

  9. Trump and his cronies launched a deadly assault on the Capitol by MAGA republicans to stop the legal counting of electoral votes and to attempt to kill Mike Pence but yeah I’ve got a poll of dems answering a stupid question so both sides just so you know.

  10. Yeah, and I can tell you a few things about my marriage specifically. #1. We went through 12 long years, most of which my now-husband was not allowed to work because we weren't allowed to get married, so economically, getting married was fucking huge from us. Once he was allowed to work as well, suddenly we could plan for the future, we could put aside money for retirement, we could think about a life with vacations and potentially starting a business, and all the other things that were just not a possibility before the laws were changed. It wasn't all bad before hand though. I was a lower level project manager for a computer company making jack shit when we got together, and him not being able to work forced me to actually apply myself and grow my career, because I got tired of wondering monthly whether we were going to be able to pay all of our bills if we decided to go out for dinner once a month. He also wound up with 2 American degrees, because the only way we could keep him here was to put him in school. And it hasn't been all good since we got married either. We're still paying for those 2 American degrees and will be for awhile. All in all though, the financial stability of not having to worry that missing a paycheck would be a catastrophe that would be difficult to overcome, the emotional stability we have because we can make our own choices about our lives now, the comfort that we take in knowing that if something happened to one of us, the other could make decisions without having to carry around lawyer drafted paperwork everywhere we go, those things have been invaluable. I'm going to pretend like you are being honest in your question and the inflammatory parts are just your immature attempt to appear to be cool.... There are hundreds and hundreds of data points that quantify the marked improvements in quality of life. I have lived with those marked improvements daily since the Windsor decision. In my specific case: 1. Financial security - being allowed to be a 2 income household means we aren't living paycheck to paycheck 2. Emotional security - the very fact we no longer have carry around powers of attorney so that we could go wave them in the face of some hospital administrator if one of us was incapacitated and hospitalized has been bigger than you'd think. Imagine going on vacation and an emergency happens and the hospital wouldn't let you see your loved one because of no defined legal arrangement. That happened routinely before Windsor and Obergefell. That meant that gay couples had to carry paperwork with them every time they left town just in case, or risk not being able to make decisions about their significant other. 3. Mental stability - we no longer have to spend all of our days obsessing over the ins and outs of what could happen because of the whims of elected officials who are feeling some heat from their right flank, and therefore veer off to attack us. The amount of brain power we expended just worrying about that can now be put to better use, and I can tell you it's a loss less taxing to support other groups in the same boat and to work with them to get out of that attack cycle than it is to be the person that is getting attacked directly. I'm sure I could go on and on, but I think I've probably already given you more than you actually cared to read so I'll leave it here for now. To sum up, I will always be thankful for Edie Windsor and Jim Obergefell for their willingness to walk the paths they walked so the rest of us would be able to live a life much closer to free than most of us ever dreamed would be possible. I also won't forget you oldtimes that go back to the Hornfans days, because while most of you were on the Republican side of the fence back then on this issue, you were almost all willing to listen to the arguments and to rethink your conclusions. Y'all being willing to entertain the arguments made me a better person, helped me articulate what I wanted in a clearer way, which paid dividends in my life well beyond this message board. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for you group of assholes, so thank you too.

  12. Okay, I got to help make a video with 3 NFL players yesterday at Westlake and hang w Casey Thompson! Jordan Love - Utah State/Green Bay #1 draft pick QB - really nice. For the video, we threw water balloons at him which he had to dodge while he hit targets. I can't speak about how elusive he is on the field, but I can assure you that he is very hard to hit with water balloons. Micah Parsons - Penn State/Dallas #1 pick LB. We have a friend visiting whose sister went to Iowa, so Micah talked some good trash. Kyle Pitts - Florida/Atlanta #1 pick TE. He's tall and more thin than a big blocking TE, so he seemed liked a TE/WR hybrid. He won the John Mackey award for the most outstanding TE so I guess he's pretty good. The highlight was getting to spend some great time with Casey Thompson!! What an amazing young man he is! Super cool guy, smart and really nice. I made him throw a pass to me, lol. I can't wait to see what he can do for us on the field and I'm officially a super big fan. Jordan tossing a pass. Super soakers and water balloons in those tubs. Fun times.

  13. Getting verbal commits from the best players is important. I feel weird having to say that on the recruiting board. Sure agreeing to have an exclusive relationship with a girl doesn't mean you're going to marry her (especially if you're Jimbo), but it's a damn important step.

  14. Per my buddy with intimate knowledge of the SEZ lighting project: "You NEED to be there to see it in person." Says it's the coolest thing he's seen in 30 years in the industry. Texas spent 18 months interviewing suppliers to guarantee that lights spec'd would be truly burnt orange. This wasn't limited to "show us a sample", think tours of manufacturing facilities. Original SEZ lighting package bid was about $2.4mm. Is now $3+mm

The 2021 version of his book is out and I recommend you buy it as the majority of you need to learn a thing or two about football based on the garbage that is posted in this forum on a daily basis. Available in a few different formats in a few different places. Amazon PaperbackAppleSmashwords

  21. Thanks. She was an amazing gal - very outdoors, besides her career in public schools serving as a counselor for troubled kids, she also had a private practice that centered on them. She also was an experienced guide in the Virginia Appalachians, again doing summer programs to help disadvantaged kids (both economically and medically) experience the beauty of the outdoors. Her whole life was a service. Mom of 3, divorced for 10 years but in a great relationship the last 3. I will miss her very, very much.

  22. If “critical race theory” has proven one thing, it’s that the wording was never the issue with “black lives matters.” It’s not a issue of marketing or finding the right slogan. Many Americans are going to push back on the idea that racism needs to addressed. Period. There is no magical way to explain it to them.

  23. I posted this in the Sark thread but my wife and I got to hang w Casey this week at a video shoot at Westlake HS. He had just stopped by to say hi. We got to speak about his goals, plans, school, grad school, the pandemic, football and more. He could not have been a nicer, smarter and fun guy. I made him him throw me a pass, lol. I was so impressed with him and am now one of his biggest fans. I am so proud that he represents our university.

  25. Ladies and gentlemen we've now reached the point where Texas football fanaticism is so apathetic and woe is me that an aggie has to console us and become the voice of reason. Does anyone here have any interest in clinging to any segment of reality? Or, do we not? FUN!

  26. 👍 You know, she would like that. Her name was Anne. I'm doing a good bit of the music for her service. We met as high school juniors, and began to be very good friends, almost got romantic but stayed friends. Abdominal cancer. Has had a history but lived a normal life for 30 years since diagnosis. Aggressive lymphoma came on about October 2020. Chemo seemed to help, she seemed fine in March. By late June she was dead. Probably my closest friend so far to go. Beyond sad.

  31. I'm an Aggie so take it for zero worth if you'd like, but I think Banks can be kept in-state. Oregon is quite a distance away for a recruit to end up in, especially when there are two in-state programs with good-to-great OL corches, brand programs (for NIL), and plenty of on-air games in football-relevant tv markets. Whatever voodoo Oregon put on Banks can wear off given enough time. And I don't know about Flood and Sark, but Jimbo has flipped some decently rated guys to A&M after being in the thick of things for their commitments and losing out on their initial commits (Bobby Brown and Akinola Ogunbiyi come to mind). If Kyle Flood is who you all think he is, then Banks has two great options right in state. And there are months to go before anything is final. So...chill?
