Johntay Cook quote in an interview with IT: "The trip to A&M was live. I had never been to a game at Kyle Field and it was loud as hell," said Cook. "But here is the difference between Texas and Texas A&M. Right now Texas has the scheme but not the players, A&M has the players but not the scheme. I mean A&M is running like the Wishbone offense, it's cool and all but if Jimbo opened it up that would be serious.16 points

Who is the future Governor? And stop being so dang dreadful. You were predicting they would walk and they didn't. Now you've got the next Governor letting them go.14 points

Well, as one of the right-leaning people, it is also how fully devoid of actual policy is the GOP. They never offer alternatives, they just oppose. Further, so much of what passes for policy is just culture war, -ism, and sound bites. And lies. So many lies.13 points

The Republican/right offers no policy issues. Just opposition to whatever the Democrats put up. So, the debate and discussion has to center on the policy positions put forward by the left, because the right offers no alternative except to do nothing. And much of the time, their justification for doing nothing is based on lies and distortion. About the only valid justification for any of their opposition is that it costs money and might raise taxes. That hasn't worked for me as a conservative for a long time, because I have thought most of the tax cuts to be foolish and have not been opposed to raising taxes, especially if the tax hike comes as some sort of fiscal responsibility "package," haha. The GOP has zero real credibility when it comes to fiscal responsibility. One of the things that really tore it for me was Obamacare repeal -- without any form of replacement.12 points

I was halfway through a long write-up on the post "spreading of MILs ashes" ceremony, but deleted it. Way tl;dr. Essentially, I had talked my wife out of expecting 20+ people to easily be able to drive into Gatlinburg, on a weekend, before a holiday, with almost no parking on a normal day, to eat at a restaurant that did not take reservations. Since we were all headed back towards Knoxville anyway, the compromise was to try to follow her to a less crowded, and more parking-friendly restaurant in Pigeon Forge. So it takes all 8 cars about 45 mins to get through Gatlinburg, following my wife ala the party scene in Swingers. We finally break free of the confines of Gatlinburg traffic and are just about to Pigeon Forge when ... ... a friend of our's called. He's coming from the other way and wants to meet us at the original place in Gatlinburg. He called ahead and got us a table. The only thing that came out of my mouth was, "Jesus. God. No"; however, I was in a car with my daughter and had no say-so at this point. Sooooo. We all do 180's and head back through traffic to Gatlinburg. We park about a mile away. (Yeah! I'm wearing boots for this trek.) Finally, get everyone parked and on the same page, walk through the absolute dregs of society, get to the restaurant, and... ... there's no table. Apparently, another party beat us there and was given the table. Where's my friend that put us through all of this? Oh, he's eating at a booth with his wife and kid. They decided to just go ahead and eat since our table was gone. The rest of us went next door and ate chicken fingers. I'm pretty sure I shared the exact same look with my wife that Waco Christmas Lights guy did with his on that fateful night.11 points

My son got him a nice sized buck yesterday in Scurry County as he was following the does around from feeder to feeder. My brother says this one was new to our place this year and looked old and maxed out with that crabby fork so it was time for him to go. Broken brow tine and some other antler damage, too, so he was clearly acquainted with the locals. One we got inside we could see that the bullet had sheared off the top half of the heart before it got to the lungs. I've never see that much blood inside of a deer.10 points

So far so good, I guess. They only clogged up the bathrooms 3x, got into an argument with the backyard neighbor 1x and lost my dog. I just leave the garage cracked and he will come back on his own time. I'm taking their ass to the country Friday morning. Growing, the kids would stay outside all day until we were ready for bed. That's essentially my plan. The black Clampetts are going to smoke a hog and fry some fish. Hopefully nobody gets shot.9 points

What is this "full blown socialism" you're speaking of? Show your work. I guess I missed the part where Bernie or AOC or Liz Warren or some "full blown socialist" proposed government ownership of the means of production. Really, you underscore why thinking conservatves have dumped what passes for conservatism in this country these days by invoking "socialism." Come on, man, that's just stupid.9 points

I was one of the center right. Still am. A lot of people have gone way, way right. That includes many of my own family. I had a serious heart to heart with them a couple of months ago where I basically told them, "you guys raised me. You guys made me the man I am today. Those same people who raised me would be ashamed if I acted the way that people you are championing are acting. I hope you take that to heart because I am not seeing the people who raised me in you today." There has been a large divergence from conservative Republicanism. I didn't go anywhere.9 points

BTW, the ashes service was kind of odd. My wife and her sister + about 30 people that really didn't know my MIL. Seriously. When my wife asked if anybody else wanted to say anything, the first two people that spoke began with, "Well, I never met (MIL), but she sounds like she was really nice...". So, my wife and SIL were all emotional and whatnot, while everyone else was just kind of there. Also, since they did this near one of the historical cabins off a hiking trail, several families, thinking it was a church service, decided to sit down and join in. It was just really weird. In the middle of the ceremony, a delivery driver showed up with a box. It was from a friend of my wife's who wanted to send something since she was unable to make it. Of course, I got in trouble for whispering to a couple of friends, "That'd better not be a severed head."9 points

57 points, to Kansas at home........a DC worth a shit could take 11 surly posters and not give up 57 points to Kansas. I am so fucking tired of the "its the players not me" bullshit or the players arent a scheme fit. Fit your scheme to your player not vice versa. This defense got grossly worse as the season went on, they shut down a good Louisiana team in the opener and preceded to get fucking undressed by every single team including fucking Kansas (with the exception of Rice). There have been zero adjustments this year, not in game nor week to week. 57...to kansas...at home.... FIFTY SEVEN!!! Bitch about the players all you want but there need to be wholesale changes on defense or expect another season like this next year and Sark to be shown the fucking door the year after that.9 points

He's been a top DC for over 20 years at 3 different schools including when he wasn't tied to Lake. He had success at all 3 schools. He comes to Texas where we haven't had a competent defense in many, many years and burned through multiple DCs and PKs first year has been awful.... Your take - PKs prior twenty plus years were a mirage, he sucks, he's done.9 points

Dude. The Republican party has no platform whatsoever. Are you living under a rock? It’s just a cult of personality worshiping trump. Its the nazi party minus any real give a shit about country, whether fake or not. They just want to burn it down. Tell me what policy position they espouse I should bother to refute? Link the Republican Party platform and its positions. Im starting to see why people call you an aggy moron, if In fact they do.8 points

I’m on a family vacation in Colorado with my family, wife’s sisters family and mother in law. A pine marten (sort of like a ferret) comes up on the porch. We are all oohing and watching it run around. Kids are all jostling to see it. Stays around for 5 minutes. Everyone thinks it is cool. I crack open the door for about 1 second to toss out some apple slices for him. Immediate reaction from wife, MIL and SIL of “what!? Don’t do that! He might get in! He’s dangerous! Stop! What are you doing! He could attack us! Why did you do that!?” It goes on and on about how terrible feeding him was. Safety conscious water torture unending for an imagined set of ridiculous potential outcomes. I crack. “Jesus Christ. It’s fine. Nothing happened. I was right there with my hand on the door. Nothing is getting in.” I was louder than I usually let myself be. Now everyone is mad at me for raising my voice. Wife is pissed. I’m supposed to apologize. No one feels any responsibility for the 5 minutes of berating for a non-event as the instigating factor.8 points

Drove in to Longview from Austin tonight with the wife/kids. My parents are divorced, my dad is hunting so we’re staying out at my mom’s house with her husband and my sister and her husband. We get in and put the kids to bed and the 6 of us are having some drinks while the ladies gossip. Turns out, one of my youngest cousins is gay. She’s sweet as can be, but has always been a little odd and didn’t have a lot of friends growing up. It’s made for a really uncomfortable situation for her (obviously) and the family, especially since this is East Texas. I don’t Facebook or make any real attempts to keep up, so this was all news to me. I just let them talk and tried to follow along as best I could. Anyways, my sister (hippie super liberal) says something like, “I wish cousin was coming to Thanksgiving because WE (my sister and her husband) would like to hang out with her again like we did 3 years years ago on our family vacation.” like awkwardly emphasizing WE and speaking for her husband and acting like he’s super invested in this teenage girl he’s met a handful of times. Mom “I’m sure she’d like to hang out with you more than your husband” Sister “Are you saying that because she’s gay and I’d a girl” Mom “I wasn’t but that’s probably true either way” Sister “That uncalled for and inappropriate “ Mom “It was a joke, calm down” Sister “It not funny, you shouldn’t joke about that, it’s hard enough…” Mom cuts her off “I’m done, your being a bitch” storms off Sister stomps after after her, yelling commences. Sister’s husband looks at the rest of us “boy, that escalated quickly” Wife and I go back to our rooms, while their husbands are left sitting on the couch with beers watching family feud (ironically) because they can’t go anywhere since they’d have to walk past their angry wives cussing at each other to get to their rooms.8 points

a) don’t be a coward. ii) the cool thing is, I don’t have to guess. They literally published something that told us exactly what they think. It said, functionally, “whatever Trump wants.” Seriously, that was the stated party platform. 3) you want some? Ok - hollering about immigrants as the cause of literally all of our problems. Drugs? The economy? COVID? Blame immigrants! But wait, they don’t have a problem with LEGAL immigrants, just illegals. Wait, what’s that, they then shifted the goalposts and are working like hell to cut off legal immigration, too? Nazis marching in Charlottesville are good people? Supporters literally yelling “heil Trump?” An orchestrated campaign to delegitimize all media that doesn’t blindly support the regime, using the exact “lugenpresse” play the Nazis ran? Come on, man. This is going to get even more embarrassing for you, because I have 100 more of these. IV) funny thing….Godwin himself said “nope, it’s cool, compare them to Nazis, it fits.” Some of us have read a book or two. We know the plays and systems that authoritarians run on their rise to power, including the Nazis. And we’ve watched, with horror, as they’re being run again, right here at home. Even including the brown shirts and a violent attack on the legitimate government. Remember that one? That’s what your party has wrought. And do they own it, and try to make good? No. They double down. They call terrorists who literally attacked the heart of my government “tourists.” They fight any investigation or accountability. If you stand with a party that supports those things, or at the very LEAST…those aren’t dealbreakers for you….then I know all I need to know about you. I am a patriotic american. I love my country. And I hate - and I mean hate - those who attack it, and those who support, enable, and excuse them. You may as well be supporting, enabling, and excusing Al Qaeda. I mean, if you want to know which “conservative values” I still hold dear, and why they mean that I hate the Republicans and those who support them. You fucking asked. I’m telling.7 points

Many of us are not surprised. It was the appropriate verdict despite the defense's attempts at legal loopholes. Those dudes unnecessarily chased a kid down and murdered him....on video. Without the video, this could easily go another way. Much like the Rittenhouse trial, if one watched it and saw the videos, one would not be shocked at the verdicts.7 points

Yes, I am a homer, and yes, his stats are laughable for a Hall of Famer. He only had nine sacks for his entire career. So what. Casey Hampton is a Hall of Famer. Here is the case: He made five Pro Bowls. Played in three Super Bowls, winning two. With Hampton clogging up the offensive line, the Steelers were a top five rushing D in 2001 and 2002 and then every year from 2004 through 2010 and again in 2012. Ten out of his 12 seasons, including his rookie season, when he split time with another dude (and in which the Steelers were not top 5). To me, that is the true measure of his success. He was not asked to sack the QB or rack up other stats. He was asked to free up everyone else to do those things. He was a one-man man-advantage on every play as he required constant double-teaming. How was it then that he "only" made five Pro Bowls and was never first-team all-NFL? Because the NFL makes no distinctions between true nose guards and other DTs who are by nature of where they play more able to rack up sacks and TFLs and passes defensed and such. As a nose tackle in a 3-4, he had no chance against DTs in 4-3s. He was flat-out the best all-time at his position, and that he is not already in the Hall of Fame shows how stupid Hall of Fame voters are. He was almost as disruptive in his own way as Lawrence Taylor was in his more readily visible way.6 points

Umm, this ain't a law school class, buddy. This is the real (internet) world where I can make any argument I want and just call someone dumb as shit if they dont agree with my professional football opinion that I type at a cubicle getting paid for something totally unrelated to football. You are a fucking moron if you don't agree with this post.6 points

I think only the zealots are saying its JUST players or even ALL the coaches. Its the internet, so I recognize that 99% of opinions need to be on the extremes of any debate. Though I will take that Surly vs Kansas bet if I can pick the 11 posters. I dont agree there have been 0 adjustments, I think that is a Surly meme. PK eventually pulled his head out of his ass and put Collins at DE. OSU was the introduction of a true 3-4 in an attempt to stop the run. I saw a lot more man and bringing LBs vs WV. There have been adjustments, there has not been an adjustment that has worked for more than a quarter of play. There is just something that went terribly wrong with the defense. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the locker room to know what it was. It is more than scheme and talent.6 points

My gay neice (1st cousin's daughter) who is a 3L law student is staying with us tonight ostensibly so she can avoid her mother for a bonus night, but also to hang with my daughter and because we're going to hear a band tonight She came out last year to uber conservative parents and the worst comment was "you've ruined your career before it started, no law firm would hire a lesbian."
