  4. i think that's what has made me so sad/conflicted about everything happening. i know these people, and i know the kindness in their hearts. they were just genuinely good people. as an example, when i was a kid i went on a lot of family road trips with my aunt and uncle. every single time we came upon someone stranded on the highway my uncle would pull over to help them. didn't matter how close or far we were from our destination, didn't matter their skin color, didn't matter what time it was or how many kids were in the back screaming/punching each other. flash forward 30 years, and he's wearing a MAGA hat and bought into a movement that is the polar opposite of who/what i knew him to be. i love them dearly, but none of them are smart. none of them went to college, and none of them are able to think critically. they were easy prey, and slowly over time, rush limbaugh, fox news, facebook just chipped away until whatever part of them i knew was gone. it's just sad.

  5. Update: I'm doing a shitty job as the son of a widowed father. My mother was the more social one (as is often the case with couples). My dad is quieter, less outgoing, and certainly has tendencies towards being a loner. Without my mother around, those tendencies are exacerbated. But on the flip side of that coin.....he's clearly hungry for company, including our company. My kids are both home for a couple of weeks, and he's relished any moment he can spend with them. We spent Christmas eve and Christmas day all together. But we've also been going full-speed since then, as my son's exchange brother had been in town, and we've been showing him around Texas. So, we haven't seen much of my dad. In trading messages the other day, he mentioned that he sure hoped to see the kids before they leave again. My son had dinner with my dad last night. I went over there briefly after their dinner to fix his toilet (replaced a valve, took me 10 minutes, but I stayed and socialized for a few, and then left them together). A little while later, my son came home, and told me dinner was good.....but he's really worried about his grandfather. He could tell when he left that granddad wanted him to stay just a little bit longer. And he realizes that he's going to be out of the country the next six months......and maybe this is the last time he'll see his grandfather. He asked me to visit his granddad more often, on his behalf. And he came to me, held me tight, and cried. And I felt like utter shit. I've been so busy working, and then exhausted when I get home. Then we traveled for an extended period right before the holidays, so we weren't around. And there's tension between him and my wife, so it makes it hard when it's just the three of us together. So, I haven't seen him enough. My daughter is in even a more poignant spot -- she may not be home again until this time next year, so she knows that this may be her last visit with him. They are going to have lunch together on Thursday, and then on Friday, the night before she leaves, we'll all have a going away dinner together. That's also my mother's birthday. That night's gonna be really fucking hard, for all of us. I told my daughter that I have to do better. She suggested just putting lunch on the calendar every week or two -- I go have lunch anyway, it's just as easy to meet him and visit for an hour during the week. And I need to do better about keeping to my plan of "dinner together on Sunday night." He's going to join us for tonight's going away dinner for my son and his friend as well, and I think that's important. Mostly, I'm here to confess. To unload my guilt. And to write something down that is a promise and commitment to myself to do more, to do better, to keep myself accountable with something in writing I can look back at. I aspire to be a good and kind person. But I fall far, far fucking short of what I should do. So let me be fucking angry at myself for a while, while I also try to do better going forward. This life shit. It's hard.

  6. Oh, just shut the fuck up. Either you're too far in the tank to understand the level of nouveau riche silliness your alumni base can often stoop to, or you're actively playing stupid on this board because equivocating seems like some sort of dandy strategy to avoid just being honest and admitting your school is dirtier than a pig in shit. Whichever it is, it's tedious and pathetic. Sell stupid somewhere else. Take deceptiveness and shove it up your fat ass.

  8. This quigley guy has been a delusional okie dipshit from the day he landed like a flaming poo bag on this board months ago, but today he’s come totally unhinged and I fucking love it. I mean there is some amazing shit he’s slinging today for us bystanders. We’ve got: 1) the OU offense will be better without Riley 2) Caleb Williams would have walked on to be at OU 3) defending Ted Roof as some sort of wizardesque mirage of a DC as a front for Venables 4) repeated obsessive posts about how much he loves Caleb Williams while clearly vacillating offline between sobbing hysterically in a corner and beating the absolute shit out of the Caleb Williams doll he’s been making gentle love to for the past two years 5) Jay Valai will fucking crush it at OU This just keeps getting better and better.

  12. He is fucking awful.....and the decision is horribad. The military doesn't create an exemption from the Constitution? WTF? The military can literally order you to go on a suicide mission -- "hold this hill as long as you can to cover our retreat," etc. It can order you to kill. I can imagine that most religious faiths have a pretty strong stance against both suicide and killing someone. If you cannot reconcile the obligations that go with military service with your faith, then.....you are not fit to serve. We have Conscientious Objector status regarding compulsory service for that reason, and I agree that it should be available. If your religion forbids you from following military orders, then you should not be in the military. If these SEALs have a religious belief that prevents them from getting a vaccine, swimming a mile, shooting a bad guy, planting mines on enemy ships, or any other part of the job they are ordered to do, then......don't be a SEAL anymore. Easy-peasy. That's the answer. You do not have a right BOTH to be in the military AND ignore orders to which you have a religious objection. You have to choose.

  13. The oldest kid had some sort of testing done at school (she's dyslexic, so it was something related to that). We got a print out of the scores, and as the wife is reading through them she's commenting like "oh, she didn't do very good here with a 60, but she's awesome in this area where she got a 138." Since those numbers don't mean anything to me, I ask what the scale is. She says it's a 100 point scale, which leads me to state what seemed obvious. After a couple minutes of me contesting that it's NOT a 100 point scale due to many areas being scored above 100, I was assured I have no idea how these things work. Apparently our child is a super genius that put the entire testing system on trial.

  18. Damn. That looks like he might be putting together a hell of a fucking staff. Taylor is a hell of a recruiter, and I imagine Hartline would be the same even without an Ohio State logo on his shirt. He's had top talent, but that's a lot of good production as well. Mason I think is a pretty damn good DC, despite various conversations about him on this board recently. Harry Hiestand has a hell of a resume, a lot of talent in the NFL, and has always recruited his position well. Damn. Impressive shit there also, it's fucking HILARIOUS to watch literally no one wanting to follow Brian Kelly to LSU and work for that motherfucker.

  20. Can we, Baylor people, stop this now. A lot of these posts are exactly why a lot of us don't hang out with the whiny, "sky is falling" when it's bad, "we're super bad ass and everyone else sucks" when it's good Baylor boards. Take the win and season in a sportsmanlike manner and whatever jabs that come from the past on the chin and brush them off. The things that happened were unacceptable, they happened, we dealt with it and now trying to move on. And, yes, Texas and OU leaving is going to hurt. But, the world is not over and we will deal with whatever happens.

  22. I know, 2021 class, but almost feels like we're getting an extra, bonus recruit. Sources: Texas DL Jordon Thomas returning to program this spring Mike Roach The Longhorns are looking for answers on the defensive line, and they should get a boost this spring from a member of the 2021 class. According to multiple sources close to the situation, Jordon Thomas will return to the program this spring after stepping away from football during the fall. The 2021 signee from Port Arthur Memorial was expected to play a part in the defensive line picture during his freshman year, but he chose not to participate in order to deal with some personal issues. Thomas was a four-star prospect who chose Texas over offers from Baylor, Houston, SMU and LSU. 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Gabe Brooks compares Thomas to former four-star recruit Isaiah Chambers and describes his game in the following way. “Possesses good height and plus frame with an athletic build. Should own requisite frame space to continue to bulk up moving forward. Current size and growth potential suggest strong-side end or possible move to even-front interior role. Could also fit three-man schemes in multiple spots, depending on physical development. Shows good strength in the phone booth. Capable of packing a jarring punch at first contact. Drives blockers into backfield vs. the run and as bull-rusher. Missed junior season with an ankle injury. Quite raw from a technical standpoint. Can improve get-off consistency. Must expand pass-rushing arsenal. Sometimes stands up at the snap. High-major defensive line prospect with potential position and scheme versatility who could become multi-year starter with long-term NFL Draft ceiling.” At 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, Thomas was ranked as the No. 38 defensive lineman in the nation and No. 46 overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports Composite.

  23. I don't think those individuals were ever reasonable. The reasonable debate is on on public policy, that is what is the most effective way to protect the public health and what is the most efficient way to do it? It is easier to administer a simple mandate than it is to administer a system with a bunch of exceptions and varying types of proof. Could you create such a system that would work well? Yeah, you could. But it is going to be more expensive to do so. If the vaccines are free, will benefit for everyone to some degree, and easy to acquire, I don't see why requiring vaccination should be problematic. I think that is a reasonable approach that trades flexibility for simplicity. And, practically speaking, I think mandates are the easiest way to quickly ensure a population is protected. Individuals chose stupidity over their jobs. I have zero sympathy for them. I see no need to advocate for their stupidity as you seem to do.

  24. in order, i would say: 1. jimbo fisher: the guy has been known as one of the best recruiters in college football his entire career and i think finished top 3-5 every year at florida state. he learned good lessons from saban and bowden here. he's also assembled a staff of pretty great recruiters both on and off field. 2. the weird region: ou's coach left. lsu's coach left. texas stumbled through season one of a new staff on the field. that's a historically bizarre anomaly that allowed a&m to take advantage of: 3. the absurd amount of talent in state: this class just happened to be one of those cycles that had a ton of talent, and a lot of it happened to be in houston where there was a bit of a domino effect. 4. we're paying: but really no more than anyone else, as much as the websites want to give us credit for directing strategic oil reserves to various churches. should be entertaining.

  28. Stolen from LHF - this is fucking magical: The OU landscape: What we know, and don't know . . .VIP Back To Topics BBishop avatar BBishop STAFF Posted on 3 mins, V I P, User Since 134 months ago, User Post Count: 3347 3 mins VIP 134 months 3347 It's been a tumultuous month, to say the least! Before we completely lose our minds over who's going, who's staying, and who's coming, let's sit back and realize that these athletes we so freely and often criticize did nothing to deserve any of this. The former coach threw a grenade into the locker room and walked off, leaving 85 guys to figure things out for themselves. No explanation, no direction -- nothing, until Bob Stoops walks into the room an hour later to calm the ciaos. But before that one moment of sanity, players and coaches were left to wonder what was next. Can we blame any of them for wondering about their future when the 'former' coach, a guy who made promises to almost every man in that room, left them with a prime example of how much 'loyalty' means. What we know . . . We know that the disruptions are not yet complete. But we also know that Brent Venables has come in and overnight transformed darkness into hope. His hires have been beyond our expectations. Yes, there will be more disruptions, but for every man who leaves, BV and staff have an answer via the Transfer Portal. No one would believe the players nationally that have called family and friends to see if Oklahoma would be interested in taking them. The list includes more than one current All-American. All of this due to the staff that Coach Venables, (our coach) has assembled. And yes, the DB coach will soon be here, (and as many have guessed, we won't be disappointed). Looking back, we thought we had the right guy, we didn't -- turns out he was flirting with two schools during the season, making excuses like taking care of personal business instead of attending his own press conference. Making his own exit plans in order to maximize his recruiting class somewhere else, instead of focusing on the next game. Looking forward, with Venables we won't have to put up with that. Players won't have to worry about BV telling them the truth. Recruits can trust his word, based on his proven track record, not smoke and mirrors BS. What it looks like from my vantage point is that the 2022 Sooner team will be far better than 2021, regardless of who stays. Buckle up for a crazy spring, one that brings us far more good news than bad. Brian Bishop - OUInsider

  29. And I don't feel sorry for them in the slightest. Mandates are reasonable public health policy. They may not be the only option and may not even be the best option, but I think they are certainly a reasonable option. Not getting a free vaccine to protect yourself and others, and to keep your job is not reasonable.

  33. Yeah that's the position your scumbag $ooner coaches (Stoops), admins, judge, DA, restaurant owner and fans took by hiding the Mixon video for two and half years that went all the way to the state supreme court before slimy $ooner fans would loosen their grip on it so the POS RB could stay on your roster. Because he could ball. Good thing there wasn't videotape of the other wifebeaters Bob Stoops loved to recruit and keep: Dede Westbrook, Dorial Green-Beckham, Justin Chaisson, Dusty Dvoracek, Frank Shannon, etc. You people put wins over ethics and morality and common decency. You don't want to hear about it? Go somewhere else. There's no time limit on that disgraceful behavior on this site. Bob Stoops had a chance to show good character when he was your coach. He failed miserably.
