  1. When you realize Banks and Joseph lead the Jamel Johnson recruitment Signed the #2 safety in Texas last cycle. Opened doors in Mississippi for us to sign Aaron Bryant from his connections when he was at Ole Miss. Good to know this is the new metric by which we judge recruiting success His contract isn't up for renewal after this year. Other than that, great post.

  3. The MAGAt in the office next to mine and his rube buddy are absolutely losing their shit this morning. They can't believe Fetterman beat the great Dr. Oz, Herschel didn't steamroll Warnock, and AOC won re-election. Can't wait until they realize Boobert is about to get shit-canned. This morning is going much better than I thought it would.

  7. Since we've all been wondering what in the fuck is going on over in BCS, the speculation from folks who have a better chance of knowing than anyone else we could quote here is that the spigot is turned to a trickle for Fisher. He needs to win out and short of that, not get embarrassed by LSU and close out at 5-7. They cannot buy him out at this point, but they can make him so miserable and uncompetitive that they hope he chooses to leave on his own. I challenged that premise, given that I think he's a spiteful, angry little leprechaun and I don't think he'll walk away. "We'll see." is what came back to me. Fisher is asking for a war chest for the portal. I guess if he wins out, he gets it? Unclear. Knowing the guy's history from a coaching perspective and his used car salesman ability to read his marks, I'm betting he knows that the only thing that really matters now is beating LSU. Auburn is noise either way and UMass can legitimately be ignored. Beat LSU to go 5-7 or 6-6 and the redasses will forgive all of the sins and convince themselves that next year, of course, is the year. Thus, the spigot gets turned back on for the portal and a mercenary close of the 2023 class. That's his Indiana Jones hat under the closing rock door maneuver.

  9. The Jimbo Fisher era in a nutshell: Guy in a bar has a few drinks and has to take a piss. He walks into the bathroom and then looks over and sees a dwarf dressed in all green at the urinal next to him. He can't help but notice that he's got a huge dick and says, "That's the biggest penis I've ever seen, Are all dwarves that well endowed?" The dwarf says, "I'm actually a leprechaun and if you want a penis as big as mine, I can make your wish come true. But first, you're going to have to let me fuck you in the ass." Guy thinks about it and says what the hell, let's do it. They go into a stall and the leprechaun starts pounding away on him. About midway through, the guy says, "Man, I can't believe I'm going to have a dick that big." The dwarf says, "I can't believe you actually think I'm a leprechaun."

  10. Hicks and Sanford might wind up going to the same place and if they do, it will be Oregon or Oklahoma. Don't put money down on Texas for either of them, even though Texas is legitimately making a push for Hicks. The guy out of Illinois is ultimately going to have a better college career than Hicks, but it's blasphemy for anyone in the business to say as much. Watch how much Davis keeps pushing for that guy. If he's able to get him to visit, that should get everyone excited. Hill's father isn't a moron. What good would ghosting a guy connected to a paying program do? Nothing. The portal is causing all recruits and their camps real pause in terms of how they handle all aspects of their commitments and signing. In reality, Hill went to ATM and heard all of the reasons why not from players on campus. There are guys there right now that do not want to be there. Some will be portaling soon. Others are trapped by the money and playing time. None of either type is happy. Hill walked away from this past weekend and basically said there was no way he could go there and his parents relented in accordance with that. ATM is out. They bought their way into that recruitment and that wasn't enough to hold on to the guy. He's literally learned the lesson at 17 that some people never learn and the rest of us usually learn painfully later - there's more to a job or experience than money.

  11. ok, finally caught up, was traveling back from fucking florida which takes half the fucking day. here are some general thoughts after watching coverage, especially watching clips and reading shit from the right about how astounded they are that the red wave didn't actually happen: -polling needs to change or go away. it doesn't work, it's based on models, previous behavior, stats, and assumes a small number of people can be a moderately accurate template for a large group using some simple math bends. vote tallies are news. how the vote tallies didn't match polling is not news. how past polling got lucky in certain areas is not news. local people who cover and know geographical area is all we should be interested in until early voting starts. -presidential approval rating is an archaic and completely useless metric. this could be its own thread, but for now i'll just say that plenty of people "disapprove" of biden's job performance but that has very little to do with them going out and voting gop wherever they live. i'm trying to find a use for it but i can't. it was also included on lots of lists... -and these lists were part of right-leaning pundits investigations to piece everything back together last night/this morning. "crime, biden's approval is in the toilet, inflation is setting records, gas prices, how in the world did this happen?!?" um, ok. first of all, stop listing approval rating, nobody is voting for hershel walker because of biden. they were already going to vote for walker. second, stop listing made-up shit like crime, that you helped make a thing. oh, and also, here's why the "list" doesn't matter: -republicans don't have issues or policy platforms. it's been a while, and last time they just pointed at trump and said that's our platform. the fuck outta here. the gop decided to play scare tactic games and lean into culture war nonsense for years while the dems tried to win on policy positions and issues. the republicans turned this into a team sport. they universally voted against every single thing that could've helped their constituents, but instead decided this is who they are. -well guess fucking what? old people died and a lot of 17 year olds turned 18. there are more of us than there are of you, and guess what else? it's not about issues anymore, because you decided you wanted it to be a team sport without first checking the scoreboard. the gop lost races they could've possibly won because they forgot they changed the rules that everyone else is playing by. twitter profiles promoting dems didn't argue about inflation, they didn't explain gas prices, they said vote blue. but no, now the gop wants to list issues and befuddle themselves about why they lost. well, it's too fucking late for that. they should be happy that the only reason they're taking the house is because of fucked up redistricting and bullshit court rulings on map-drawings. fuck all the way off and take the loss, pussies.

But Ds need some changes - Pelosi needs to retire - Make Abrams something within the party as she’s good at getting people to get out and vote - make Fetterman’s social media team the Ds national social media team - Punch boebert in the tits - what else…?

  15. Not relevant to most but man was I glad to wake to seeing the One Family lunatics roundly rejected (like prior restraint, Walter) here for RRISD board membership. I’ve posted before about my idiot neighbor and his big sign, canvassing the neighborhood and handing out flyers. Fuck that ‘ABC’s and 123’s not CRT or LGBT’ nonsense. We teach our children it’s ok to like who you like, that it’s ok for people to marry other boys/girls as they see fit, and to love people for their character not their appearance.

  28. Former House guy here. So the first thing to understand about the House is it's straight majority rules. Outside of a couple of procedural messaging options, the minority has no say in anything. At all. It's not like the Senate. If you can get to 218 (0r 217 depending), you can do anything you damn well please, including rewriting virtually every procedural rule. It also means Leadership holds all the keys to the good life system: good committee assignments, pressure to fund raise, tasty speaking slots on the floor, media opportunities, etc. For the minority, it's miserable: you lose every fucking day. Never win. Occasionally you get a good messaging tidbit, but that's it. In general, the house has way less "personalities" then the senate. Most members are trying to get through their days without popping up on the DC radar. Just going about their business, and as such, mostly just vote with leadership. The leadership losing a floor vote is akin to the British defeat at Dunkirk. When I was in the minority we won a late night vote on campaign finance reform and the dem staffers were in the gallaries heckling the GOP and their staff. I once saw David Obey throw hands with some GOP member after a close vote the GOP held open for like 3 hours sweet talking the last couple of votes they need. A Majority that can't rule with an iron fist isn't a majority at all. If the GOP reinstitutes the Hastert rule, which dictates that half the majority caucus has to support a measure to bring it to the floor, it creates huge headaches on things like raising the debt limit, where you would need most of the democrats to pass it, since the majority of republicans would oppose. A 1 to 2 seat majority raises the specter of losing floor votes on the regular and a majority in disarray. Particularily in a caucus that is at war with itself. It also raises the specter of the Democrats being able to use discharge petition to temporarily seize control of the floor for particular legislation. You are a Don Bacon and Tom Kean away from suddenly not controlling the floor on a major piece of legislation.
