  1. Yes, you’re right…even if your dogged defense of Twitter is really stanning for Elon, along with your cryptobro / no regulation / perverse take on freedom of speech / veiled take on the incel anger machine which regularly has real consequences for innocent people…you could easily cut significant workforce at most large tech firms to shore up efficiency. But that’s missing my point. My point was that there can be a happy coexistence between the business making money and allowing the contributors to have a comfortable, balanced life. Hit that ideal and everyone’s happy. That’s also how you attract (and keep) key talent. That’s also how you democratize advancement as people feel free to speak their minds. I could get fired tomorrow and my team, my org, and the company as a whole would keep on humming. I’m the black sheep on the team in that I do not possess unique tech talent valuable to our core product for internal customers: a customized Azure sub launched with a basic core/federated governance structure but slowly evolving towards a more ideal form of data mesh as our customers upskill. I’m really good at communicating complex things via exec-ready slideware (yeah I know) and handle other bullshit engineers hate…budget execution, outside spend and vendors, running forums. Fire me though and they’d figure it out. And yes I WFH…I do laundry, I take naps, I run errands, take kids to the doc, jerk off, post here, etc. My CEO is on the record as supporting whatever format works for the individual, and the manager I’ve worked for the last 15 years says β€˜family first’ and really means it…seen me through my marriage, two kids, grad school, a dark period with an associated drinking problem, and everything else. I will also work until 3am to get the visuals just right on a deck my boss needs by 9am, motivated by the sheer terror of letting him down…or my team members down. I get the flexibility I need outside work, they get my 100% commitment without complaint when it’s needed. I can’t fucking stand this reduction of real people with real lives to β€˜hours’ and insinuating we are all getting β€˜easy money’. People are a spectrum and there’s way more to life than the job, the pursuit of being rich. I relish the idea of Musk burning down Twitter because I want to see what he embodies fail, despite unlimited funds…out of control narcissism hitched to the hate wagon. You seem to relish an entire collection of pee-ons getting their comeuppance because they haven’t hitched their wagon to the almighty dollar. Anyways I’ve waxed poetic about this shit enough, sorry for the wall of text. I feel strongly about this shit but I ain’t solving anything as I’m just a pee-on myself.

  3. Elon fanbois’ glee at all these workers being fired or bullied into shitty working conditions reveals what libertarianism/anarchism-capitalism weirdos are really all about: they’re about authoritarianism, but they’re the authoritarians. I am deeply serious about this, I used to dwell in the weird corners, where Lew Rockwell is the entry point and not the destination. There’s lip service to freedom of speech and drunk driving laws, but what really gets them spun up is when the gubmint dictates that β€œbosses” can’t do whatever they want to everyone else. Anti-discrimination laws. Exploitative contracts and child labor being illegal. Worker safety. Basic labor laws like overtime. That’s where the outrage is, concealed in the rhetoric of β€œin a free market any contract should be legal.” And they’re always the authoritarian heroes, too, never the shat-upon. The real anger is not at being stifled or restricted, the anger is at the government for preventing them from exploiting others, and being in charge. That’s why they only cheer the market when it exerts force downward and not when consumers or workers exert force upward through things like ad boycotts. That fucks up the authoritarian wet dream.

  4. Ewers had true freshman age and experience this year. He played like it. Don’t let that coax you into the stupidity you’re currently espousing. He’s got a lot to like and a lot you can’t teach. Biggest leaps for players happen between their freshman and sophomore years. Let’s not forget that Sam Ehlinger was absolute trash as a freshman. The great Westlake savior never had a game worth lauding during his freshman season. He looked like the same shit to start the sophomore season and then a light went on for the TCU game and he ended up being a praiseworthy UT standout. I said the guy was a loser before that TCU game and all I had was history on my side. Didn’t matter and he went on to bigger and better and I inevitably have a Westlake honk reference that post as though it is fresh or unaddressed about every 6 weeks as a byproduct. Not expecting Ewers to develop and be far better next year doesn’t make any sense.

  7. I don’t understand the Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley hate. They destroyed OUs program and burned it to the ground. They are heroes. Good for them winning a bunch and Caleb being the favorite for heisman. The only thing I hate is that Texas isn’t playing them in the post season.

  8. I think sark pulled his head out of his ass for Baylor after he coached a miserable first half where bijan and Roschon ran the ball 22 times to end the game. It’s all I wanted from him. To not coach the loss and coach the win using the best opportunities on the team.

  9. By coasting do you mean routinely getting open and beating his man and sometimes also a safety by 2-3 yards, also by taking on punt return duties when he really didn’t have to, and also being a willing blocker downfield as a receiver. Worthy did a lot of things most high profile receivers wouldn’t bother doing but some of you are going to dump on him as cover for Ewers. Especially you. Yes he dove for that ball in the Bama game because it was catchable. We would have saw more of that if he had more catchable balls thrown his way. And if he really didn’t want to be here he had the opportunity to bounce after last year. In this new NIL world I’m not going to shit on our own guys trying to get paid when we are going to be throwing out offers to guys on other teams in efforts to try and get them to come play here for pay. Some of you need to stop being a bunch of whiny ass bitches.

  11. This is something I stress to people regularly, especially the people I work with. You have one shot at life. Do not waste it endlessly pursuing money. Get out and live life. If you work for someone like Musk and can get a job that realizes you are a person with a life outside of work that is far more important then go work for that company instead. The world is a better place with people like Musk not playing an active role in it. The youngest generation entering the workforce now realizes this and has placed their focus squarely on their lives outside of work first. I think that’s pretty awesome.

  25. Worthy made good money this year. He made more than I would wager most folks on this board made for the year. He chose to threaten to enter the portal the last day possible in May and squeezed Texas supporters for everything he could in doing so. This wasn’t corporate money. These are fans. They’re also human. For him to go through the same process this time was expected, and USC has done nothing but talk shit to him since May. That considered, the prices they’re claiming to be willing to offer up aren’t worth it. If the rumors are legitimate, smart roster management focuses on signing the guys committed, landing Greathouse/Moore/Parker - 1 or more, retaining Neyor and developing Hall, Thompson, Red and the other guys. Then use high level NIL money to add a couple of other guys that are high-priced and worth it, but not breaking the bank. Evan Stewart would go a long way on this front but I am skeptical that he’s actually smart enough to leave ATM.

  31. To me, the improvement of the defense from not only year 1 to year 2, but also on a week to week basis throughout the course of this particular season, was the biggest story of the regular season for the 2022 Texas football team. And the most exciting part about that is the core group of guys coming back next year who should make the 2023 defense a strength of the team. That group will consist of: 1 - Jaylan Ford - the heart and soul of the defense who could very well be the Big 12 defensive player of the year this year. 2 - Ryan Watts - definitely improved throughout the course of the season and will be relied upon heavily next season. 3 - Jahdae Barron - this guy flashed more and more throughout the season and is a big play waiting to happen on the defensive side of the ball. 4 - Barryn Sorrell - should be our best pass rusher next year. Played like an absolute monster at times this year. Though I have him at #4 here, if all of these guys reach their max potential, he's probably the best NFL prospect of the bunch. With these four guys leading the way next year, I am excited about the potential of a Texas defense heading into a season for the first time in a very long time.
