  2. Just so we’re clear, if nowhere else, on this board, at least. Texas wasn’t ready for shit in 2020. They weren’t ready on July 1, 2021, either. They didn’t support what NIL has become. They were fucking scared of it. What they weren’t scared of, they were oblivious to or dismissive of in all forms. So was the rest of the CFB landscape outside of Oregon and, well, a small group of us here and Bobby Burton. Small details may not seem important to you and this may seem like a quibble, but to me it is not. We put sweat into creating IP, aligning various skill sets and personalities, and then helping give it all away for the notion of a greater good for Texas and no longer seeing the UT AD be the disconnected, pious, pompous and trodden-upon snob it had become. We didn’t just create IP that was adopted ultimately across all of CFB, we took risk in bringing it to the forefront and then forcing the powers that be at Texas to see it and embrace it. And as to the notion that we’ll ever go back to just letting Bama and others make a mockery of the rules and get over on our fanbase? Not happening. Texas is not only now self-aware, it is assertive. Should that ever falter, we’ll call the banners again and find a way to go to war.

  4. I think how you talk about DEI/Inclusion/Equality is as important as the mechanics of the program itself. When corporations suddenly back off of DEI programs after the election of Trump, that sends a message to every employee; every minority and every racist working for you heard that message clearly. Not only is everything you previously said on the topic superseded, you have clearly indicated it is all negotiable. Nobody cares about how the policy is written.

  5. I kinda disagree. It's the cognitive dissonance that lives in their brains. Individual minorities, gay people etc. who they personally know? Well.....Jose is a good fella, hard worker. We aren't talking about him. And Carol...she's a sweetheart. We don't mean her. But brown people generally? THEY'RE INVADER CRIMINALS! How do they reconcile these? We've all seen it before. If you grew up in the South over the past 50 years, there is a 100% chance you've heard someone utter the phrase "oh....but not you, Jose/Tyrese/Vinh...you're one of the good ones!" It's that easy. They can be both completely and totally racist....yet compassionate and not racist as to a specific individual. And both things are absolutely true, and match human nature. It's easy to dehumanize a group, it's hard to dehumanize an individual who you know - it's a cousin of the "one death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic" phenomenon. We are filled with people who will cheerfully build death camps for "the other," then cry genuine tears when their minority friend is sent to his death there.

  8. MissST or VT is the best analogy for me, except that MissSU has an actual strong tradition of success in baseball, including an actual title in baseball, and except that VT actually played for a MNC in 1999 with Vick. Both of those schools are happy with who they are. Of course they have their own little brother complexes, but not the delusions of grandeur that TAMU does. The biggest problem with TAMU is that they just don’t accept who they are. A diploma mill land grant school with decent ag and engineering programs, and a mediocre athletic program. They think they’re Vandy academically, West Point militarily, and Bama athletically, but they’re MissSU in football and academics, and VT in corps/rotc.

  10. Images like this make me roll my eyes at that NYT article. White maga are so fucking insidious. They know exactly what to say, how to feign care and empathy. Which nobody at any one of those rallies has one ounce of. "Oh bless her heart we didn't mean Carol!! She's such a sweetheart". Deep down you and I know you're voting for white supremacy, you put the fucking white supremacists in office. You saw the white supremacists marching the streets taking "stand down and stand by" orders from Trump, and that shit pleased the inner racist in you. So you fed that devilish beast at the voting booth. The Leopards aren't eating faces on this shit, because these motherfuckers don't actually give a shit about that woman, they've just convinced their church friends and Carol herself that they do. Then they'll give a slight "hmph" and go back to eating breakfast.

  21. These are great examples. It's stunning to me overall how all in the staff has gone in recruiting nationwide. It's not just dipping their pinky toe in California, and maybe grabbing a kid from a neighboring state. They've been successful in Florida previously, and certainly we've seen players recruited from other hotbeds like St Louis and Georgia. But we're going after kids wherever they are. This is the widest net and with the biggest numbers of out of state targets I've ever seen. That any of us have ever seen. I really like the way they're doing it, too. There's no desperation. It's utter confidence. Last year I was really nervous around this time. Now I feel an utter state of calm. They're going to make their big push on the June official visits. They've brought in the creme de la creme. There's no fat in these June visits. No bread. And they've kept their powder dry. So many other schools leading with a premature ejaculation. Texas ensures there's some interest and fit there beyond the payday. No process ensures you hit on every target, and regardless of what kind of environment you have, kids are going to transfer for more playing time if they're talented and it's tough to see how they get on the field in the time and manner which they're looking for. But the methodology Texas is choosing to employ is the best way to manage personnel. The only thing is, you better be an apex predator to do it this way. You have to be uber confident in your product, your sales pitch, and your ultimate ability to close. It's not like Texas is the only game in town. But I really love the approach they take, and I'm convicted it's going to pay dividends come the early signing period and beyond.

  28. Just to go back to the stupid Ohio State argument that Texas is scared to play in the Horseshoe! At night! Because more articles came up on my feed this morning, especially after Del Conte addressed it at the SEC meetings yesterday. A few points: 1) Ohio State/Big Ten agreeing to the massive television contract with Fox, CBS, and NBC is the principal issue here. Not Texas. They love to crow about how much bigger their contract is compared to everyone else. Well, the golden rule applies, boys. He who owns the gold makes the rules. Welcome to noon kickoffs, Buckeyes. Don't like it? Too bad. You signed the dotted line. No one forced you. You're the sacrificial lamb for the rest of the conference because you're the biggest draw, especially when Michigan has a down season. Tough titties. 2) Ohio State fans and Texas haters, plus click bait artists, love to project fear on Texas for not wanting to play in The Horseshoe! At night! But that's not it at all. If Ohio State was playing almost any other program, they'd readily move the game to Sunday night. Why? Because nearly every program in the country is desperate for more exposure, and would sell out living relatives to garner an exclusive prime time nationally broadcast window on a Sunday night. Forget about the consequences. But Texas doesn't need prime time exposure. We'll get plenty of prime time games this year, because we're Texas, and we're not saddled with an albatross of a television agreement with Fox like we were in the Big 12. Sucks to be you! What people are enjoying ascribing to fear, is actually arrogance. Ohio State is desperate for a prime time game at home. Texas is not desperate for prime time exposure. We don't need it. We don't have any reason to move the game to Sunday. It creates issues further down the line. So what if San Jose State is not the most fearsome opponent on the schedule. Sarkisian wants to establish the season's rhythms as soon as possible. It doesn't matter how much of a difference it makes on the win/loss schedule. Our program priority is winning a national championship. Moving the opening game to Sunday night puts us further from that goal, regardless of how much impact it has. It has some impact. How much is hypothetical, but it's also entirely unnecessary. I remember years when that wasn't the case. When the athletic department would schedule games with Hawaii simply to have an excuse to take the entire athletic department on a paid trip for them and their families, never mind the negative impact it would have on the players and team. One of the best moves Mack Brown made early on was to cancel that silly boondoggle. He got the same kind of grief about Texas being scared to play a Hawaii team that was going to be terrible after losing their entire roster. Ohio State is going to be good. They're literally always good. They don't really have down years or bad coaching hires the way everyone else does. But there's no incentive for Texas to do the Ohio State fan base any favors. "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." Sort your shit out with Fox. That's not our problem.

  30. Mexico should create a path to citizenship for Americans of Mexican heritage going back several generations. My family is 4th generation born on this side of the Rio but retains a lot of ethnic Mexican culture (with some distinctly South Texas/American differences). My brother in law’s parents were born in Mexico and he got dual citizenship a long time ago. I’m very jealous, they have a legit exit plan. I’m pretty much stuck in this shithole country and also fear for my children. If this continues they’ll probably make it illegal for Americans to study abroad or even leave for more than a few days at a time. My kids also have a z at the end of their last name like me and we know where that’s heading even now regardless of citizenship. There’s no hyperbole anymore, the most outrageous shit is clearly on the table. We’ve learned there is no bottom.
