Our friends said they got a letter from their drowned daughter sometime Sunday or Monday. It said something like βdonβt worry about me, Iβm having so much fun with my friendsβ and other stuff like that. Fuck, itβs making me cry all over again. EDIT: Forgot one thing that at least brought a temporary smile and laugh. Eloise mentioned in her letter she was disappointed that she was a "Kiowa" rather than a "Tonk" like her mother at Mystic but rationalized it by saying Kiowa's colors were red and that's pretty close to pink, her favorite color. Goddammit.23 points

Outside of everyone rolling your eyes at "media scum" while you attempt to laughably accuse any other organization of bias, allow me to try and illustrate the big point here you seem to be missing. And it's obvious that you're missing it even though you've inadvertently outlined it in your post and don't seem to see the signifigance: The governor, who is calling parents asking who to blame Losers, said that there was plenty of notice and resources sent. The mayor, who slept through it, says he has no clue what the governor is talking about. Two sides are saying opposite things, and one will be shown to be a blatant lie, and that motherfucker should face consequences. Now, it's rather obvious who you think the liar is, but whatever, either way, the sunlight means someone deserving should face some fucking consequences, and that's a fucking good thing. But I guess you can go back to finding a solution that "brings back the victims" since "that's what the families of the victims need." I guess maybe you dabble in necromancy? But I'd bet 100 bucks that, short of their dead family and friends coming back to life, victims would settle for some fucking justice and accountability for folks at fault, and THAT can maybe be uncovered by...checks notes...people asking fucking questions and writing articles about it.20 points

Did the BBQ drop-off in Boerne for the SIL and his team. He said they started in Bergheim today and then went straight to Canyon Lake leapfrogging the teams in between. He said they found a "few" victims and went into a bit of detail on condition, but I'll leave that out here. It's what you think it would be and ID is not easy. Met his commander, who said the guys in the field were getting fed "But it's the same sandwiches over and over..." then grumbled a bit about "The guys who are staying in Kerrville are getting the good stuff." That is to say the ribs and bacon/jap wrapped chicken skewers were well received. He told me they'd be back searching Canyon Lake tomorrow. That aspect is just surreal. The whole thing is. Well, so, for the ttwwps purists...19 points

Itβs Nazi shit. It ends in the fucking Holocaust. Concentration camps are already in use domestically as well as foreign countries and no court is able to stop brown people from being shipped there ALREADY. Letβs not pussyfoot around and stop being afraid to call Nazi shit some Nazi shit.19 points

We saw our friends tonight. Happenstance took us by his in-lawsβ house where they are staying. Saw him standing on the porch and we flipped around to park and walked up to house to give him a hug. As you can imagine they are just gutted. I canβt even imagine. His wife came out and we all hugged and cried on the porch for a bit. We were on our way to another friendβs birthday dinner so we couldnβt stay. Hoping to maybe stop by for an extended period tomorrow or Thursday.18 points

Totally suspicious of you people but I have my daughter back, my next door neighbor girl back, daughterβs friends all good. Dallas friendβs kids made it thru. One of my close friends lost his daughter, and my other less close friend hasnβt found his yet. We are still shocked but the girls seem completely normal.16 points

So, re: Chief Baker ... I'm not gonna pretend to know what all went down in regard to his decision to not send swiftwater rescue resources to to Kerrville. And I don't particularly care to find out. But I can assure you it's not the slam dunk negligence that some including Charlie Kirk or some of my brothers and/or sisters at the AFL-CIO Local are making it out to be. I have my doubts it was even the wrong decision. For the folks saying Chief Baker was wrong to keep AFD resources here rather than ~100 miles away with severe weather incoming, you have to remember that Austin has its own severe flooding issues, and our closer neighbors also rely on us to help them out. It's not simple. Not ever. We don't have unlimited swiftwater rescue resources. Far from it. We have a handful of boats, and they get worked overtime in every heavy rain event in Austin and the surrounding area. And every time one of those boats leaves the station, the crew and the truck go with it. Thus, they are out of service for typical responses and leave a hole in the city's coverage. Had Kerrville, Kerr County, and the State lived up to their responsibilites, the disaster could have been averted, or at the very minimum, the human toll could have been drastically reduced. Period. Trying to put this on a Fire Chief close to 2 hours away is some astronomically stupid bullshit, esp in light of the incredible idiocy that went down out in Kerr County. But, of course, I understand that as a good little Nazi, that's his job, so that's what that POS is gonna do.13 points

SIL said his DPS recovery team is now staging from the park in Bergheim (just outside of Boerne) for their work today. That's maybe 20 minutes from Canyon Lake. They are working their way here fast. I saw dead deer floating in the lake yesterday. I think some victims are going to be found a few hundred yards from my front door. FML On a happier note he said they attacked that brisket like it had bullied them in grade school. Firing up that mf'er again and taking some swine tonight. Guessing I'll learn some things. Will report back what I can.13 points

The Grok crash-out is just downstream of what was done in society. LLM AI is just a really good predictive text generator and doesnβt create anything new or have thoughts. Itβs reflecting what we put in the information space back to us. So when you plug in the βdonβt favor reliable sources; treat edgelord content as equalβ we are just getting shit that racist and idiots have already pumped out spat back at us with the building blocks slightly rearranged. And the danger is that real idiots who donβt understand LLMs will believe that what they are seeing is some kind of neutral, super-intelligent confirmation of these βspicy factsβ and not for what it is: an unsentient program simply burping stuff it ate back up.13 points

You are dead on. Reminded me of this, from Isaac Asimov: βThere is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.β13 points

That Abbott speech is going to be lampooned for years as it should be. Hell, Jon Stewart & the Daily Show writers could do 5 easy minutes on "Texans love football" and contrast how easily voters will approve multi-million dollar HS football stadiums all across the state, but a $900k investment in warning sirens is too expensive or worrisome due to false alarms. What a fucking unfunny joke we are to allow this type of "leadership" to represent us.11 points

Bluesky post is a post from the Texas Tribune, which has a reputation for factual reporting with a left center bias. So, no, not bias much. Your defense of the mayor is no defense at all if he said what was reported, and the report was a direct quote. Holy shit, dude.10 points
