I'm so ready to win with defense and special teams I joined the Cult of Horus. You may remember Horus was the Egyptian god of kingship, healing, protection, and winning ugly games with low scoring offense. The last bit isn't recognized as such by Egyptologists, but take a look at this: Also, Horus's origin story is quite interesting:24 points

TBH I think this is why everyone is all toxic and fucked up. Its not anything you are doing wrong to be clear. When your Texas Football experience is just the game from your couch and getting on surly to bitch about it, what is there to look forward to? What happened to people making plans around the game with people they like from the Longhorn fandom even for Away games. What happened to wanting to tailgate and afterparty? Part of the entire college football experience to me isn't just going to the game waiting forever to leave your parking spot and feeling however the game went. Its about the entire day - the band, the pageantry, the friends, the heckling of the other team, the big plays, the roar of the crowd, things like singing the eyes. If you are skipping all the good parts all the time, of course there's nothing to look forward to, it's just like kicking yourself in the nuts over and over again. @YChang came and joined us at KoKos and we watched the same game y'all watched, but it was a roller coaster of emotion and a final victory that I'll remember. Another buddy of mine got a picture of me in full disappointment after they tied it with the caption "TFW Kentucky ties it" I'm not telling anyone how to do anything, but maybe the problem with why you hate everything all the time is the way you are setting things up to hate everything all the time. We aren't gonna get the greatest show on turf this year - that's not the identity of this team even when it's firing on all cylinders. This team if it gets its act together is going to score points and have wins like OU at best. That was still fantastic. There's a lot of schedule left and a lot of fun games left after MS State. Vandy at home is projected by revelxp tent sales to be one of the biggest morning games ever in Austin (if the people show up). Arkansas is the renewal of a rivalry that hasn't happened here since 2008. TAMU hasn't played here since 2011 and was the hottest ticket outside of TX@tOSU the entire year. A night game with nothing else going on because it's holiday time. There are LOTS of people that are making this about a lot more than the team.22 points

Your summarization is incomplete and the devil is in the details. Here is the full text of the compact: https://www.washingtonpost.com/documents/4059a5dd-f3dc-4cf6-bf1f-9e0d98c2f8d9.pdf?itid=lk_inline_manual_8 For starters, it should be rejected on principal. The federal government, and in particular, a highly partisan and biased presidential administration, should not be overseeing the ideas that can and can’t be taught on a university campus. Look at the shitstorm that A&M just went through for a professor discussing gender in the classroom, and now imagine that the federal government has a signed agreement that gives them authority over this or they withdraw research funding. Secondly, this specific presidential administration is not a reliable negotiator or business partner. The entire tariff debacle should be plain evidence of that. Even if the university felt the demands of the compact were reasonable, Trump has proven time and again that he will change his mind on a whim. There is no reason to willingly enter a formal agreement with him if it can be avoided. Thirdly, the DOJ is responsible for enforcing it. The same DOJ that is currently being used to prosecute Trump’s political enemies. In its current form, this is not a fair or reliable mediator for the compact. It is a weapon that can and will be used by Trump if the university does anything that he is not happy about. And if you want to get further into the language of the compact, the biggest concern I have is section 2 - Marketplace of Ideas & Civil Discourse. This notion of an intellectually open campus environment already exists at UT Austin, so it is a boogeyman request that suggests the curriculum is intentionally designed to persecute conservative ideas. It creates protections specifically for conservative ideas, while failing to provide any similar reciprocal protections for progressive ideas. Conservative ideas don’t need the government to protect them. If they are less prominent at UT Austin compare to a place like A&M or Tech, that is merely the nature of the university and the students and faculty it has attracted for decades. It is not an evil scheme to indoctrinate otherwise innocent conservative young adults. If families or students are afraid of that, they have every opportunity to select a different university in the first place, rather than allow the government to create a mechanism to homogenize all education and restrict the expression of ideas within academia. In normal times, I would feel strongly the same way if a Democrat president wanted to meddle in A&M’s curriculum and force them to become more progressive under the notion that progressive ideas are unfairly targeted. Finally, the language in some key areas is intentionally vague, leaving it open to interpretation and therefore weaponization. What does it mean to “abolish institutional units that purposefully punish or belittle conservative ideas?” Who defines what constitutes as belittling? If a professor discusses climate change and a conservative student gets offended, what happens? If a professor teaches that Tylenol and circumcision do not actually cause Autism, and a MAHA nutjob gets offended and feels belittled, do we lose the professor? Why would any self-respecting professor choose to teach in that environment?17 points

Regarding the assistant coaching discussion, here are some thoughts from my end: -Flood's not guy driving the bus regarding the approach to OL blocking, according to those familiar with the practices. He didn't forget how to coach overnight, either. So firing him is probably something Sarkisian does in order to save face after the season. -Sarkisian is a poor OC as a HC. The numbers bear out that he's generally done a mediocre to shitty job and that isn't going to change with a new OLC. One of the biggest issues with Sarkisian's offensive approach is that it is finesse-oriented. That's just not going to fly in the SEC against the athletes they're facing on everyone's front 7s. With the most talented OL Texas has had in decades last year, they often struggled to run the ball against good defenses. Point is, for the OL to really improve, Sarkisian's approach needs to change as much as anything. Seems unlikely. -Milwee needs to go. Sarkisian needs to hire an independent QB coach with actual skins on the wall. No QB has gotten better at Texas during the Sarkisian era. Not one. 2 of the highest rated QBs of all time have gotten to campus and not improved. One got drafted as an afterthought in the 7th round. The other has become a laughingstock and an accidental meme generator and he's embarrassing himself on a weekly basis. That's all on Sarkisian in some form, but he's not going to fire himself. He needs to fire his buddy and hire someone who can call him on his bullshit and coach the QB room. -What are we seeing and learning from Chris Jackson? Do we see WRs getting better? It's somewhat hard to discern with the OL being historically terrible while the QB is constantly either running for his life, shitting himself or doing both. -Too early on Huff. -I don't see anything happening with Banks and the TEs actually seem like they're improving with reps.15 points

You should give a shit. #3 is good ole Kimmy Gibler. Hands down. No questions asked. Let’s be honest, Winnie might get kind of flaky and might not be down to clown. Penny will be down to clown, but may get all uppity about it or decide to clown around on you. The Gibler will be waiting in the wings to do some really, really nasty stuff that you don’t feel comfortable revealing to your buddies. The kind of stuff that you’re not proud of, but gets you there every time. The stuff that makes you question the totality of your life’s choices when looking in to the mirror the next morning, but just not bad enough for you to make any real meaningful changes in your life. You don’t like her, but you also don’t really like yourself anyway. That’s the Gibler and that’s why you want her next door.14 points

Repeat it with me: YOU CAN'T MAKE A DEAL WITH TRUMP. It's that simple. He won't honor any single part of it. It's just the first step in submission. He will change the terms when he wants and you can do fuckall about it. It's like doing a deal with Darth Vader, except Darth had principles, morals, and a belief structure.14 points

I think the people with the most power are not Christian nationalists, but they allow Christian nationalists beneath them to push the agenda because it sows division in the common people and division benefits the oligarchs. Trump doesn’t give 2 shits about Christianity. Neither does Elon or Adelson or many of his other billionaire supporters. Christian nationalism is merely a tool they can use when they need it, and otherwise allow it to fester and give their political allies something to whine about.. The white supremacy part is entirely valid at the very top and throughout parts of the GOP.11 points

Ukraine unveils upgraded sea drone it says can strike anywhere in the Black Sea The Associated Press October 22, 2025, 5:35 AM KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s state security service has unveiled an upgraded sea drone it says can now operate anywhere in the Black Sea, carry heavier weapons and use artificial intelligence for targeting. Ukraine has used the unmanned naval drones to target Russian shipping and infrastructure in the Black Sea. The Security Service of Ukraine, known by its Ukrainian acronym SBU, has credited strikes by the unmanned vessel known as the “ Sea Baby” with forcing a strategic shift in Russia’s naval operations. The range of the Sea Baby was expanded from 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) to 1,500 kilometers (930 miles), SBU said. It can carry up to 2,000 kilograms (about 4,400 pounds) of payload, SBU officials said. At a demonstration attended by The Associated Press, variants included vessels fitted with a multiple-rocket launcher and another with a stabilized machine-gun turret. SBU Brig. Gen. Ivan Lukashevych said the new vessels also feature AI-assisted friend-or-foe targeting systems and can launch small aerial attack drones and multilayered self-destruct systems to prevent capture. Developing a new kind of naval warfare Drone strikes have been used in successful attacks against 11 Russian vessels, including frigates and missile carriers, SBU said, prompting the Russian navy to relocate its main base from Sevastopol in Crimea to Novorossiysk on Russia’s Black Sea coast. “The SBU became the first in the world to pioneer this new kind of naval warfare — and we continue to advance it,” Lukashevych said, adding that the Sea Baby has evolved from a single-use strike craft into a reusable, multipurpose platform that expands Ukraine’s offensive options. Authorities asked that the time and location of the demonstration not be made public for security reasons. The craft are operated remotely from a mobile control center inside a van, where operators use a bank of screens and controls. “Cohesion of the crew members is probably the most important thing. We are constantly working on that,” said one operator who was identified only by his call sign, “Scout,” per Ukrainian military protocol. Ukrainian sea drones helped push back Russia’s navy The SBU also said sea drones helped carry out other high-profile strikes, including repeated attacks on the Crimean Bridge, most recently targeting its underwater supports in a bid to to render it unusable for heavy military transport. The Sea Baby program is partially funded by public donations through a state-run initiative and is coordinated with Ukraine’s military and political leadership. The evolution from expendable strike boats to reusable, networked drones marks an important advance in asymmetric naval warfare, Lukashevych said. “On this new product, we have installed rocket weaponry that will allow us to work from a large distance outside of the attack range of enemy fire. We can use such platforms to carry heavy weaponry,” he said. “Here we can show Ukrainians the most effective use of the money they have donated to us.” ___ Associated Press journalists Alex Babenko, Yehor Konovalov and Volodymyr Yurchuk contributed to this report.11 points

Midweek CUSA led off Week Nine with an OT thriller that kept Western Kentucky alive in the conference hunt: Texas is 5-2, ranked, and favored in this week's road game so I assume we're all feeling great. Let's get to it! Wednesday Middle Tennessee State @ Delaware (-11) (7:30/6:30 ESPN2): The first half of the FBS newbie doubleheader is in Newark (the good one). Derek Mason is now the coach at MTSU, so that's neat. Missouri State (-2) @ New Mexico State (9/8 CBSSN): Show Me vs. Land of Enchantment in the battle of the States. Thursday South Alabama (-6) @ Georgia State (7:30/6:30 ESPN2): Conferences REALLY hate counter-programming against the NFL, huh? These are the bottom teams in the two Sun Belt divisions - who will finally pick up a conference win in the old Braves/Olympic stadium? Friday North Texas (-23) @ Charlotte (6/5 ESPNU): UNT should dominate a bad 49ers team in the (non-Cincinnati) Queen City. California @ Virginia Tech (-3) (7:30/6:30 ESPN): A true All Coast Conference battle in Blacksburg. Cal had some fun trolling Chapel Bill last week (with the game still very much in doubt!) Boise State (-20) @ Nevada (10/9 CBSSN): The Broncos are lurking as a threat for the G5 Playoff spot after recovering from the season-opening loss to South Florida. Catch them on national TV. Saturday Early Games #8 Ole Miss @ #13 Oklahoma (-4) (11/12 ABC): Two one-loss teams - who will pick up the pieces and make an SEC Championship run, and who will be left staring down the barrel of a very disappointing season after a hot start? OU especially faces a nasty homestretch of games against ranked opponents. UCLA @ #2 Indiana (-21) (11/12 Fox): Forget Curt Cignetti for a second, what a fucking story UCLA is! Tim Skipper and Jerry Neuheisel have turned the Bruins into surprise Big 10 contenders. But with Bloomington suddenly becoming one of the toughest places to play in the country, the fairy tale might end here. Kansas State @ Kansas (-2) (11/12 TNT): Can't go wrong with a rivalry game at the third spot in the rotation, and in this timeslot it's the Sunflower Bowl! Should be a close one in Lawrence. Midafternoon Games #11 BYU @ Iowa State (pick 'em) (3:30/2:30 Fox): We FINALLY get undefeated BYU at a reasonable hour without a huge SEC or B1G game sucking away all the attention. If you have not yet seen freshman Bear Bachmeier sling it, that kid is the truth, but Ames can be a tough, loud environment. #15 Missouri @ #10 Vanderbilt (-3) (3:30/2:30 ESPN): Whoops, forgot to add this one. Top Ten Vandy hosting Gameday sure is a new kind of sentence to write! Baylor @ #21 Cincinnati (-4) (4/3 ESPN2): Another Big 12 game! Watch the Scott Satterfield Career Revival Tour attempt to take another skull, as Dave Aranda's job is very much on the line. #22 Texas (-7) @ Mississippi State (4:15/3:15 SECN): Hook 'em, meet CLANGA. The most annoying home crowd for TV speakers will try to deafen the "meditative" (thanks CBSSN crew) Texas offense in Starkville. Primetime Games #25 Michigan (-13) @ Michigan State (7:30/6:30 NBC): What deranged TV exec made this a night game in East Lansing? The Spartans are bad, but so is Michigan, and this crowd is going to be drunk, loud, and hostile as hell. Go Sparty Go. #3 Texas A&M (-1) @ #20 LSU (7:30/6:30 ABC): If they're going to achieve their 8&4 destiny, the Aggies need to get to losing. Primetime in Baton Rouge would be a natural place to start. Shame that means Brian Kelly has to win. #17 Tennessee (-8) @ Kentucky (7:45/6:45 SECN): Vols, it's your turn to enter the Mark Stoops Misery Vortex (thank you to Ryan Nanni for that one). Good luck. RIP Pac-12 After Dark. Colorado @ Utah (-14) (10:15/9:15 ESPN): Utah is fresh off a brutal Holy War loss. Colorado is a shell of its previous swagger, and a field rush against Iowa State doesn't exactly scream "big program". Still, it's football, and a chance to likely watch Deion lose. All football is good football, folks. Even OT wins in Lexington. Happy viewing!9 points

Last time I went to a Waffle House.....was with YGIFS (RIP). We'd meet up periodically for a semi-ironic "Waffle House summit." But truth be told, we also both liked the coffee and breakfast. Apropos of the survey subject matter, we both came from relatively humble backgrounds (working class for the most part) to achieve real professional success and eventually be members of the top whatever percent. That's a real American demographic, but its numbers are going down, and that's a big problem on two fronts. (1) It's a problem because you lose cross-cultural/economic perspective among the relatively upper classes. We spend a lot of time in rooms with "the elite." And when they didn't have perspective or understand what's up with the working class etc., it's helpful for "one of them" to be able to speak up with an "actually, here's how that looks. And I'm here to tell you, government cheese makes FANTASTIC grilled cheese sandwiches." But it's also a problem because (2) it's a sign of mobility. My mother literally survived because of government assistance. My father lucked into going to college- a state university, with absurdly cheap tuition, after growing up poor in a border town. And I have "made it." My children have grown up secure, with the world opened up for them. That's the American Dream, it's the path that many followed just a couple of generations ago. That path is not as open today. That sucks. We have lost mutual perspective because we've lost mobility, and make no mistake, most of that mobility was UPWARD, not downward. It's much harder today to jump up a class. It was never EASY, but it was much more doable. That's bad for America. All of America. Some of us see that, and actually give a shit about our fellow American, even though it benefits us not in the slightest (my success will not change if Darryl from Bumfuck gets a degree and a decent job in Ft. Worth....yet I still very, very much want to see that happen for Darryl). Others -- and they are now the dominant strain of American politics and society -- think that anything that might help Darryl in the slightest is SOCIALISM, and actually see Darryl's failure as a sign that the system they want is working. God it's fucked up.9 points
