reading this article makes me think Brian Kemp should be shot in the face. I can’t believe they’re allowed to get away with that shit. Abrams got screwed. I can’t wait to see how bad they try to rig things in 2020. Georgia is a messed up state.

Kemp will be safe in 2020 but he’s motivating many many dems and independents to come out against republicans.

When you look at everything the GOP is doing as a whole, it’s baffling.  There is no kind of long game present and arguably, their short game is non-existent as well.  It’s  like now that 2018 is almost over, that was it, that was their end-game. The comments, not just by Trump either, the actions, the pure hatred, everything is going to do nothing but help the Dems in 2020.

Trumo is being given easy layups, such as showing up for anniversaries and shaking hands, and he’s blowing it.  Hell, many baby boomers (Trumpkins) had grandfathers who served in WWI, and he shit on them.

Last week, he lost Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Arizona, and he should be, at the very minimum, trying to not offend those voters.  Instead, he either shit all over their procedures, or he shit on the Republicans who lost in those state.  He cannot win without those first three states, but you would never guess that by his actions and comments.

I get that Trump is not good with math, but surely an aide took him aside and told him how many electoral votes are in jeopardy in 2020.

It’s not the voters driving the GOP over the cliff either.  This is all thanks to GOP politicians.

Whats the goal when you don’t seem to care that the Dems will flip the Senate and win the WH in 2020?

Trump can declare victory by retaining the Senate, and there is a level of victory there, but the House is the best judge of the overall mood of the country.  He got knocked down by that vote.  And if anything, he is acting in a way to get more voters mad at him.   It will be a crazy 2 years until Nov 2020.

The last 48 hours have been incredible even by Trump's standards. Imagine if Obama--or any previous president--had blamed disaster victims or missed ceremonies commemorating WW1 and honoring all veterans.

Holy shit!

I think my IQ dropped 50 points after reading that article. Thank god that fucking retard got voted out. First, he defends a bill which would’ve kicked over 20 million people off insurance then he places all of the blame on a war hero who is from his own party. I thought the GOP was supposed to be pro military and pro veteran? What happened to that?

Orange mousse guy out front told them that prisoners of war aren't heroes.

The WSJ Editorial Board (and the WSJ op-ed page in general) has veered into Fox & Friends territory in recent years.  I canceled my subscription back in 2017.  As they often do, they wanted to discuss why I was canceling, and I explained that the Editorial Board pieces were absolute shitshows and that I didn't feel like I could trust them even for business news anymore.  Interestingly, the person I was speaking with admitted that they were getting a lot of cancellations for that reason.  I have to think that it ends up hitting the WSJ bottom line, but it's pretty apparent that Murdoch doesn't give a damn for whatever reason.

sorry, I meant Republicans love (to use) the troops (for political purposes).

In the GOP defense, I’m not sure how they could possibly have any long game strategy with Trump/Trumpism in the calculation.

There’s no way to get Trump to stick to any kind of script and his supporters will punish any republican challenging his authority, no matter how justified.

We are witnessing a major political party that is irreversibly subverted.

That's where Fox News comes in.  A party has never had as effective a propaganda machine.  What's the time lag between them pushing an idea and the base deciding that is what the believe?  Thirty minutes?

It’s a combination of the voters and a lack of true leadership.   Outside of Trump, who is the GOP leader voters could follow that competes with the following of Trump?

There isn’t one.

Is there really not a Beto equivalent on the right? Surely there's a modern, cool, level-headed conservative out there that can lead the Republican party back to sanity?

The Fox News phenomenon is fascinating.  It makes you wonder if the GOP is a media run political party instead of a political party that runs the media.

Fox News tells their viewers what to care about without being questioned or challenged. Whether it’s Hillary’s emails, confederate statues, caravans, NFL flag bullshit, “dangerous” antifa/blm, Benghazi, Ebola, or Obama’s tan suit; these are the REAL ISSUES that need to be addressed for Fox News viewers.

Then the GOP political leaders push these issues to pander to the Fox News voters.

The scary thing is that Fox News gets that huge group of degenerates to the polls every single fucking time.

It’s fair to say that the democrats took the elections of 2010 and 2014 off. We weren’t competitive at all.

I was expecting the red state senate races to be tough, but the GOP still did some damage elsewhere. They fought harder in the house then I thought they would. Although, the very rigged house map helped them a ton.

Explain to Trump that the House is about to run a train on his finances and dealings with anybody and everybody, and can and probably will make most of it public (particularly if the Senate sides with Trump) and that there is nothing Trump can do.  KellyAnne Conway can do the "let them try" bullshit when asked about the Dems going after Trump's finances (which shows she doesn't know shit about what Congress can do), but the reality is far different.  Oh, and they'll run a train on his kids as well.  Maybe not Tiffany and Barron, but definitely Dumbo, Dumbo Jr., and Ivanka.

Using pretty slides, explain to Trump that last week, the GOP lost Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, without which he cannot win in 2020.  Arizona was just piling on.

The GOP has leverage.   If the House puts Trump and Family's shit on blast as expected, there will be Republican Senators who are unwilling to own Trump's baggage.   It's easy for many to carry his water for now, because so much of it is out-of-sight/out-of-mind (thanks to a GOP House prior to January of 2019), but when Trump's shit is put on blast, and reporters are shoving microphones in the faces of (R) Senators who are vulnerable in 2020, plenty of them will desert him.

They can tell him to buckle down and put a muzzle on twitter, start visiting the troops, and start acting like a grown-up man rather than a fucking snowflake.

More importantly, they can tell him to start acting like the Dems can and will put a hurting on the GOP and Trump next year when they investigate him.

His whole life has been based on being able to settle out of court or paying off people to shut up, and keeping things quiet from the public at large.  He can't do that for the Dems in the House next year.

Ben Sasse, probably

Trumpsters hate Sasse, and currently they control the GOP. Even if Trump was impeached/removed with overwhelmingly evidence, there are enough Republicans who hate sasse that he won’t get traction. If Trump isn’t impeached, I see a decent chance Sasse will have a rough primary for Senate. Sasse’s criticism of Trump might earn him some points with never-Trump Republicans, but his positions are too conservative to make a centrist run. Maybe in 10 years, if Trumpism is an embarrassing distant memory for the Republicans, Sasse might have a shot.

This is what I see, with a varying timeline.  There will be a future where no one will admit to being a Trump supporter and the Rs will make a dramatic swing to the chin stroking philosopher type.  It might be ten years.  But it might be the day Dotus leaves the office, and I think that is more likely.  And just like no one supported the Iraq invasion, we will be amazed that Trump must have won in 2016 with about two dozen votes.

Disagree.  GOP voters in flyover country would fling a fried pie at William F. Buckley before hooting "YOU THINK YER BETTER'N ME????" at him.

I'm sure they got well over 50% of the 65+ vote of white Christians, particularly in red states.  But I doubt they got many minorities over 65

But what's the racial breakdown of who voted in this election? I'm sure it was at least 65% white.

Probably.  But that's still 35% nonwhite, and not all whites, even over 65 voted Trump.  Dems won by around 9 points, I think.  If you're including votes across the country including all the people of any race in, for example, San Francisco or Boston, there were plenty of white voters voting D, and I can't imagine many minorities voting R.

November 4, 2020.  When he loses in two years, many, not all, but many will claim only that they were voting against the Dem, and not for Trump.

That’s assuming many don’t turn on him next year when the House stuff starts happening.

Remember, the HIC members, etc. were downright fucking desperate to keep certain things secret.  They wouldn’t have been so desperate if they didn’t think a lot of Republicans would turn on Trump over that stuff.  They were willing to jeopardize their own careers to protect Trump.

I hope you are right.  But I will believe this when I see it.  There has been zero evidence to date to suggest to me that any Republican will bail on Trump or Trumpism.  Deep down, it’s who they are.

At this point they sure as hell aren't if they're still elected. It's funny to think how stupid so many of us were to think that they would basically revolt against him early on when his approval started tanking. They will do nothing to help rein him in unless you see him re-elected but the Senate go to the Dems, and maybe not even then.

I hope beyond hope and pretend as best I can that place is in no way representative of the student body and alumni.  It is just one hard core racist high fiving another with half baked reasoning as far as you can see.  Then saying “LOGIC” and “FACTS” as loudly as they can. So I choose to tell myself that isn’t representative of my neighbors’ / family’s / friends’ / state-mates’ education.

Power is what they want and all they care about, and he is only useful as long as he can provide it.  If the S.S. Trump starts taking on water, and it threatens to take them down, they will bail on him.  Most of them were around before Trump, and all want to be around after.

We know there is some serious shit that will be revealed - we saw how desperate House Republicans were to defend him.   We saw how scared Linda Graham and McConnell and others in the Senate are.

Edit: I would go so far as to say that many in the Senate are hoping that Mueller has a slam-dunk case so that they have to do very little.  The more they can deflect to Mueller, the better.

For those who doubt Trumpkins will pretend they never supported him, just look at all the faux Gary Johnson voters we've got around here. Once they found they could no longer defend him against the "liberal cabal" of former Republicans, real Libertarians, moderates, independents, and progressives who voice opposition to Trump and speak in logic, facts, and human decency, they've been largely silent (except for the premature gloating on election night).
