I hated the way it ended.

It was a big swing, but I sort of dig that they were willing to make something not safe.

Haven’t seen Together, The Shrouds, The Long Walk, or Strange Harvest but I’ve heard good things about each.

I’ll post again with some other great movies I’ve seen this year that weren’t released in 2025.

I watched Bring Her Back per your list and ... I'm now scarred for life.  May be the most painful movie I've ever seen.

I’m trying to figure what you kids are shocked by. Bring Her Back was seriously a thing?

My goodness, guess you kids don’t watch much.

I've seen quite a bit over the years, and gore doesn't bother me.  It's a tad different when young children are being tortured or in pain.

I didn't see anyone say they were shocked by it. I, and others, said it was creepy. Because it was creepy. Because it was supposed to be creepy. Which is a thing that audiences tend to appreciate in horror films.

Just stumbled across this trailer. I wasn't aware the world needed more of the IT universe, but I guess HBO feels differently. 8 episodes in all.

I dont see how Steven King isnt a billionaire by this point.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa's new movie "Cloud" is available for rent. Haven't found time to watch it yet, but I bet it's great

Any horror ranking this year should have Weapons #1. It's elite like Hereditary and The Witch for me

If you are not familiar with Curry Barker I think you will be. For $800 he made an amazing found footage movie called Milk & Serial. A YouTuber I really like and respect - SpookyAstronauts - came to Austin for FantasticFest and watched his new movie called “Obsession” and thought it was one of the best horror films she had ever seen. I can’t wait to check it out.

Really liked A Desert. Psychological horror. Depraved but also a bit Lynchian at times.

A west noir nightmare. Did have some lost highway vibes

Last month I saw a bunch of horror movies at Fantastic Fest. Here are details for a few that stood out, and I've included trailers when available.

Dolly- no distribution yet afaik but definitely creepy & intense with franchise potential

Quote

Chase and Macy drop off Chase’s daughter, Evy, and then hike to a nearby overlook where he plans to propose. Those plans are soon forgotten when they discover a weird "art installation" of dirty, broken dolls. Unfortunately the dolls are actually more of an altar to the victims of Dolly—a violent, hulking, child-like person in a tattered dress and a porcelain doll mask—who arrives to bury the decapitated corpse of their latest plaything. While they have little interest in Chase outside of violence, Macy catches their eye and is taken home to become their newest doll.

It was also the first time I'd seen Seann William Scott in ages

Whistle- fun and more mainstream horror- scheduled for release February 2026 IIRC

Quote

A misfit group of unwitting high school students stumble upon a cursed object, an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. They discover that blowing the whistle and the terrifying sound it emits will summon their future deaths to hunt them down. As the body count rises, the friends investigate the origins of the deadly artifact in a desperate effort to stop the horrifying chain of events that they have set in motion.

Night Patrol- Justin Long as a LAPD officer- scheduled for 2026 release (no trailer available)

Quote

Carr, an LAPD officer with past ties to gang life, returns to duty in his old neighborhood. While partnered with Hawkins—a former Navy SEAL and second-generation cop eager to join the precinct's legendary Night Patrol task force—Carr reconnects with his brother Wazi, who has just witnessed the brutal murder of his girlfriend.

More details in spoiler

Spoiler

Carr, an LAPD officer with past ties to gang life, returns to duty in his old neighborhood. While partnered with Hawkins—a former Navy SEAL and second-generation cop eager to join the precinct's legendary Night Patrol task force—Carr reconnects with his brother Wazi, who has just witnessed the brutal murder of his girlfriend.

Under pressure from gang leaders, Wazi claims the Night Patrol is responsible. The accusation makes him a target, and Hawkins is sent to kill him as part of his initiation. After Hawkins spares Wazi, choosing to deliver a warning before walking away, he’s summoned to a remote warehouse for his formal induction into the Night Patrol—where the terrifying truth behind the task force and its grip on the community is finally revealed.

Wazi, Carr, their mother, and local gang leaders join forces to fight the malevolent task force, drawing back to their African heritage as their only defense against the unspeakable horror that the Night Patrol truly is.

Although NIGHT PATROL is a wild, it’s undeniably a politically charged dive into the underbelly of the LA police force. Festival alumnus Ryan Prows’s second feature is both fun and savage. The entire cast delivers top-notch performances, and FF's good friend Justin Long is impeccable as Hawkins, the legacy recruit into Night Patrol.

I also saw an early showing of V/H/S/ Halloween (released earlier this month) and it was a lot of fun- one of the better ones of the franchise imo.
