On the other end of the respectability spectrum, I watched Match which apparently is only streaming on Tubi. Oh my. So much gross out and a movie that I have to assume got green lit because of Barbarian’s success. I can’t necessarily say I recommend it…but I also didn’t regret watching it and it has some really audible gross out scenes.

Watched it tonight... yeah, kinda fucked.  Type of movie you only watch once.

Pearl is a lot of fun. Good prequel to X and Mia Goth is great. Need to round it out with MaXXXine now.

Spoiler

Can’t believe she killed Superman

Of the OG Halloween (1,2, 4 and 5, 6) obviously the original one is the GOAT. Two explains why MM went after Laurie. But I really feel like 4 is the best overall movie after the first one.

kinda the same with Friday the 13th which went to hell and outer space. I think 6 is a superior film that doesn’t get as much respect. When you watch every one of the films in order 6 stands out to me as being much better than the rest. The first one is again, the GOAT but it has nothing to do with the hockey mask. Which is too iconic. But having Jason’s mom be the killer is always awesome. And the actress in that role scared the shit out of me—still does. Gold standard for acting in these. As was Jamie Lee and Donald Pleasance in Halloween.

I can’t believe we are almost a week from Halloween. 🎃

I have a hard time rating Final Destination and Saw films because I haven’t seen them all.

I knew nothing about Bring Her Back when I started it last night. Great fucking movie. Super creepy. SUPER CREEPY. Fucking Ollie. Anyway, watch it on HBO.

MaXXXine is fun. I liked the 80s vibe and the cast. I’d rank them Pearl/X/MaXXXine.

Mia Goth is pretty talented. She has some interesting stuff lined up.

For horror fans I cannot recommend Kanopy enough. It’s free with a library card (limited) or use your kid’s student account (unlimited).

The library is top notch - and you can really dig in to some obscure indie/classic/foreign stuff if that’s your thing.

You could just use Tubi and Kanopy for a very long time and be happy and spend nothing.

Milk and Serial was pretty solid.  Just watched it today.
Is there any way to stream or watch Obsession yet?

Looks like it’s getting a major theatrical release in 2026.

Match. Its on Tubi. Campy, gooey, and a fun watch. A couple of truly disturbing scenes.

The stuff I’ve heard about this one puts it in the hard pass category for me.

I'm going to be too deep in my job search/skill training this year to dive deep into horror, but I did just watch VHS Halloween. Kidprint is the best and most memorable thing I've seen from the franchise since maybe the first movie. The candy short was also a riot.

Looking back, I don't think I saw the previous VHS due to to the run of movies that disappointed me.

I keep hearing about Kidprint. I’ve missed the boat on VHS for some reason, but seems like I need to give this one at least a whirl. Is it required to watch the wrapper and the other segments, or is kidprint standalone?

My wife loves them so we watched them all last weekend. I feel like its Pearl and then a big gap between that and the other two but they're all fine.

You've missed VHS in general, or just this latest one?

If you haven't seen any of them, I'd watch the first two. The first two have a high hit rate, like the first couple of seasons of Black Mirror, and then it really fell off a cliff, although apparently last year's was solid (which I guess I missed)

For VHS Halloween, I'd just watch the whole thing. None of the shorts sucked, and I thought there was a good rhythm to the mix and order of them

I watched a movie last night called Beast of War. Australian WW2 movie with a killer shark? Hell yes!

I think they did an amazing job for what really is a low budget B movie. They chose to go with practical effects and the shark is F’n terrifying.

I watched the first one. Not bad but felt long. Lots of tites though, always appreciated.

Finally watched Hereditary. What a wild ride that last act was. mdleast sold it to me as having the most audible dread in any movie he's watched.

  Reveal hidden contents

The part where you see the mom in the corner and then she floats by. Just great at amping up the tension. The part where she starts chasing her son made us scream which my oldest and I rarely do while watching these.

So far we've watched, The Birds, Psycho, The Thing, Longlegs, Se7en, Talk To Me, and Weapons. We still need to get through The VVitch, Event Horizon, American Werewolf in London, Bring Her Back, and the youngest wants to watch The Shining.

Watched VVitch with my 16 yo daughter and 14 yo son a couple of nights ago. Neither liked it. Moved too slow for them.

Anyone seen The Invitation from '22? Appears to be on HBOMax now.

There's one mention of the same title from a decade ago, but they're not related.

Love all of these except for Evil Dead Rise. Evil Dead II is a stone cold classic, but I found the 2013 and 2023 reboots a snooze.

I lose track of our horror threads so maybe I’ve already mentioned in this thread, but a few other favorites include Empty Man, Rec, Terrifier 2, The Babadook, Green Room, and, last but absolutely not least, The Invitation (2015).

We watched it last night. Wife and I enjoyed it. Oldest liked it until the end which she thought was dumb. We all decided living in the early pilgrim days would've sucked.

This is a favorite after multiple viewings through the years.

Always a fun family discussion around the witches broom as a phallic symbol and it representing Thomasin’s sexual liberation at the end of the movie.

Also - Black Phillip is creepy af.

Agree.  Halloween OG was great.  Donald Pleasance really elevates the movies.
I really liked Danielle Harris as Jamie in Halloween 4.  Really impressive performance for a little kid

This doesn’t answer your question, but the 2015 Invitation is 💯

Ok.  This is driving me crazy.  Perhaps y'all can help.  In the latest SEC Short, there is a sound effect, that I'm positive, was in a recent horror movie I've watched.  I've identified the sound/sound effect below, but none of my searches have found anything.  Halp?

My 10 year old son and I were watching a Hammer Film marathon on TCM and Dracula Prince of Darkness came on. My son tapped out during this scene:

I’m jealous, my 9 year old won’t watch anything remotely scary with me.

Even worse, he dimes me out to his mother.  I mean, what kid doesn’t fondly recall the night terrors resulting from the Poltergeist clown doll?

Tucker n Dale vs evil.   Another one I've never seen, after watching Clown in a Cornfield, Joe Bobs suggestion persuaded me.

Hilarious movie.

Revisited Wes Cravens New Nightmare.  Prob hadn't seen it since renting it at age 11 or 12.  A great meta movie.  It all held up except the ending.  But worth watching it you've never seen.

I watched The Substance with my 75 yo mom the other day LOL, I can't believe she watched all of it.

Brings back memories growing up going to the midnight showing of Dracula, Godzilla, Gamara and such with a group of friends from school.

Black Philip is indeed creepy af. But honestly, all goats are creepy af with their rectangular pupils.

Watched Clown In a Cornfield on TLDI Friday night.  Was pretty good.

My 13-yo and I saw this in the theater and liked it a lot. A horror masterpiece it is not, but it's fun for what it is. Sometimes you just want dumb fun movies. We both couldn't stop laughing at the scene with the rotary phone.

In addition to my 2025 ranking above - here are a few I’ve watched recently that I don’t see mentioned that often and a few my kids enjoy for Halloween every year:

- Strange Harvest - if you enjoy mockumentaries/found footage this is definitely worth a watch. Production value and acting is a step above what you would typically see in this subgenre. 6.5/10 (rent)
- Braindead/Dead Alive - I hadn’t seen this in probably 20 years and holy shit what a ride. Peter Jackson was in to some weird shit. One of the goriest movie ever made - but in a lovable way?? 8.5/10 (hard to find)
- Beast of War - Low budget Australian b-movie but hard to go wrong with WW2 and a terrifying shark. Acting was pretty good as well. 6/10 (rental)
- Match - I didn’t like this as much as some others on this thread, but still worth a free watch on Tubi. The protagonist was just too worthless and it fizzled towards the end for me. 4.5/10 (Tubi)
- The Long Walk - One of my favorite SK books and this lived up to the hype for me. 8/10 (Rental)
- Rituals (1977) - If you are a fan of Deliverance, this is a must-see. 7.5/10 (Prime, Tubi)
- Good Boy - I enjoyed this for what it was - props for bringing something original to the table and it had some legit scares. 6.5/10 (Rent)
- V/H/S Halloween - probably 2nd best in the series for me. I think if this got a theater release and more exposure it would be big for the masses. 7.5/10 (Shudder)
- The Pit (1981) - If you are in to early 80s weirdness, this will scratch that itch. 6.5/10 (Tubi)
- Cure - I mentioned this before in this thread. If you enjoy slow-burn Asian horror this is an absolute must see. I lost sleep over this shit. 10/10 (rent)
- Frewaka - One of the better folk horror movies I’ve seen in awhile. 7.5/10 (shudder)
- Pater Noster and the Mission of Light - In to extremely low budget crazy-ass cult shit? This is for you. 7/ 10 (rent)
- The Coffee Table - I don’t even know what to say here. Easily the most uncomfortable subject matter on this list. It’s a dark comedy so that gives it some wiggle room I guess? Just….I warned you. 6.5/10 (shudder, Tubi)
- Red Rooms - Not necessarily horror but one of the best movies of the last couple years imo. I’ve seen it 3 times and end up having a different take every time. 9.5/10 (shudder)
- Ghost Watch - If you havent seen this, do it. This was filmed as a news special back in the 80s - similar to Dateline or 20/20 and it freaked an entire country out. 9/10 (Shudder)
- Freddie Freako - Homage to Ghoulies, Puppet Master, even Garbage Pail Kids (but really good). Same director that did the great Psycho Gorman (must see) and The Void. 7/10 (Shudder, Tubi)
- Candyland - Lot lizards getting picked off by a serial killer. Lots of nudity and violence. This was a true hidden gem. 6.5/10 (Shudder, Tubi)
- The Innocents (1961) - Absolute classic and holds up well. My teenager wasn’t excited about it but ended up loving it. 9.5/10 (rent)
- Trick r Treat - My families Halloween tradition. 7.5/10 (Max)
- The Orphanage - Another one we try to revisit every couple years. 9/10 (rent)
- Lake Mungo - #3 on the Wutang family tradition list. People hate this or love it. I think it’s awesome. 8/10 (Tubi)

Here are some personal favorite FF movies that you might not have heard of:

- Milk & Serial
- Butterfly Kisses
- Jeruzulem
- Delivery: The Beast Within (slow but brutal)
- Europa Report
- The Tunnel
- Borderlands
- Wer
- Afflicted
- Missing: Life of Belle (Not great but the ending is shocking)
- There are Monsters
- The Sacrement
- Taking of Deborah Logan
