Our youngest (son, age 21) is on a road trip to South Dakota with his girlfriend, her parents, her two brothers and his dog + their dog.  One vehicle.  This family is not your average American WASP collective, they're Filipino and their norms are . . . different.  Like, they drive at night, as in they left Austin for Amarillo at 9 PM.  Lather, rinse, repeat.  I'm overly terrified they're gonna get in a horrible accident.  I know that's just me being a dad, but jesus, get a hotel room or three.  I'll pay.

A few years back, my son (around 21 at the time) and some buddies road tripped to Zion National Park by way of Balmorhea State Park and the Grand Canyon over like 4 or 5 day period.  I think they had a place to sleep for maybe 2 nights total.

Driving, swimming, hiking essentially non-stop.  I was nervous, but all was fine and he looks at it as a great memory and cool experience with friends.  I'd have loved it when I was his age, but sounds miserable to my 50+ year old self.

What kind of vehicle are they in?  6 adults and 2 dogs may get a little tight.  I'm sure your son will have a blast.

Some kind of minivan.  Still, that's a whole lotta mammals.  (I call band name.)

I hope she plays tot to go.

She thinks it’s “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and does that choreography to it

Well, my boy is a Senior in HS this year.

It’s been a long, tough and beautiful road in these last 13 years.  We still haven’t decided if he will stay in HS for a year or two more, but I know he’s ready for this year and especially his Digital Art and Media class.

Gripe/looking for tips thread:

My 8th grader has a stupid early start time: at the bus stop by 0645 and we are lucky we are fairly close because she has to be on-campus by 0715.

Just started this year and she’s a zombie by end of day. I can’t blame her, I am cranky about that early of a start. She has to get up between 0545 and 0600 to have time for breakfast, wash, dress, out the door.

It’s kind of fucking up the day and leaves her with zero energy for after-school anything. Clubs, activities. And you can’t tuck an 8th grader in too early.

Completely pissed at the district. Teenagers need more sleep and IMO no school should be starting before 0800x

My 3 and 1 year-old both slept through the night for the first time in many weeks. I feel euphoric. Is God actually real? Should I go buy a lotto ticket, because I feel like the luckiest man on Earth.

I think most schools start before 8am now. Do your kids go 4 days?

7:15 AM for regular classes or is that a zero hour kind of thing?  Where is this?

It’s in Virginia. Our younger daughter has a start at 0845 for elementary school, the high schoolers start later as well.

0715 is when she needs to be in the door, I think the bell for first period rings at 0720.
