1/4 Altuves. Literally. It's a fossilized turd, presumably a T. rex*, and it's 17 inches long.

*(no way to ID for sure, but there are ground up and gastric acid etched bones in the turd and T. rex is the only known thing big enough in the part of the country it was found in at that time to drop that large of a duece)

Did the Briskettexanasarus not roam that area?

Fossilized poop isn't actually that rare, but being able to identify it to the species that made it is really rare. There aren't that many diagnostic things.

Dinosaur skulls are rare because they attach very loosely to the back of the skull and have very thin walled bones in lots of places, so they are really fragile. Because almost all of our fossils are found in sediment that was moved by water, frequently the skull is swept away and bashed up.

The above doesn't apply to horned dinosaurs. They have huge, robust heads and we find those decently frequently.

Awesome thanks!

Re: flipping.  There is an underlying assumption there that person x is a preferable target for the fuzz than person y, so you get y to flip.  If that was the case here, it makes the investigation seem very political, which I don’t believe is the case.  So I don’t believe flipping is a goal.

Michael Cohen’s Other Woe: Mounting Unpaid Taxes on New York Cabs

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-20/michael-cohen-s-other-woe-mounting-unpaid-taxes-on-nyc-cabs

Taxicab companies owned by Michael Cohen or family members just got hit with nearly $80,000 in new claims for unpaid taxes, according to records filed in New York.

The bills show the declining fortunes of some companies linked to Cohen, the longtime personal lawyer to President Donald Trump. Cohen is under a federal criminal investigation into his business and financial dealings that broke into the open this month with FBI raids on his office and residences. All the parties involved are now jostling over how that evidence will be used.

New York state filed tax liens in Manhattan this week against five companies owned by Cohen and members of his family, including Mad Dog Cab Corp., Martha Cab Corp., LAF Hacking Corp. and NY Funky Taxi Corp. The Cohens own medallions for 32 taxis in New York City through 16 companies. Most of those companies are now encumbered by liens: State tax authorities are seeking about $174,000 in all in taxes from Cohen family taxi companies, including the latest claims.

Hack is slang for taxi driver so it gives him a solid cover.  Its right there with Hunts Point Hooking Corp.

Yeah, I wasn't actually suggesting that it was a computer hacking company. I just found it ironic. That and the "laugh" homophone.

Just making sure here; he couldn't pay $174,000 in taxes, but was able to get a loan against his home for $130,000 for a porn chick, just for kicks?

Taxes are owed by entities, not him personally.

Of course.  Why else would he have 32 taxis and 16 taxi companies.  I'm not going to bother looking up NY taxi law, but given that setup, I'm sure there are regulatory and tax implications that arise when you purchase your 3rd taxi.

This cannot be good for Cohen or Trump.

Keith Davidson, mark that one down for later. He was also the attorney for the playmate that was knocked up and was paid to have an abortion.

He was acting suspicious as hell his one tv interview. Almost like he already cut a deal.

As if Avenatti isn't enough of a pain in the ass for them....

Avenatti is doing victory laps. To think,  an attorney for a porn star could bring down the Trump presidency...actually, that’s the perfect ending.

*litigation.

What's the story on the lawyer couple from Miami? I think they just joined Team Cheeto.

I know they specialize in white collar financial crimes.

Michael Cohen says he has never been to Prague, but now there is a witness who contests this.

That witnesses name? Michael Cohen.

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/04/michael-cohen-says-hes-never-been-to-prague-he-told-me-a-different-story/

In the weeks after the election, the details in Steele’s dispatches remained secret, and I spent weeks trying to determine if any of the allegations could be substantiated. The claim that Cohen met secretly with Russians seemed to be one of the tales that might be confirmable. I took a stab at that. While pursuing that angle, I called Cohen. He insisted that there had been no trip to Prague and that he had met with no Russians during the campaign.

This week I reviewed my notes from that phone call. Here’s the direct quote from Cohen: “I haven’t been to Prague in 14 years. I was in Prague for one afternoon 14 years ago.”

So flipping Cohen can be a minefield.

I say they just refer any likely state crimes to the Sate of New York and let them prosecute with what they got. If Cohen kept recordings they may have enough. Keep him from being pardoned.

Actually, that article takes a whole lotta words to say not much.  Here's the entire gist and point:

Quote

Even if Cohen is inclined to share information about Trump with prosecutors, the government would likely want a judge to rule explicitly that the attorney-client privilege doesn't apply — either because Cohen was engaged in order to commit a crime or because the matter in question did not involve confidential legal advice.

And that's correct.  That's why the EXCEPTIONS to the privilege are the whole point here, particularly with respect to the subpoena itself.  If a prosecutor is going to use an attorney-client communication involving a defendant, they HAVE to get a finding from the court that the crime-fraud exception applies, or that it doesn't meet the standard of an attorney-client privileged communication (e.g., it was not a communication for the purpose of legal advice.  If Cohen and Trump are talking about their favorite movie on the phone, that communication isn't an attorney-client communication.  It's also probably not relevant for anything, but the point is that not all communications between an attorney and his client are attorney-client communications).  So....no shit, sherlock.

Hearing set for tomorrow at noon. By 5 pm today, Judge ordered Cohen, Trump, and Trump Org to file proposed procedures for sending priv question/objections to Special Master and to describe their resources they each are able to devote to review docs as the government starts handing things over. Should make for an interesting afternoon tomorrow

So she did appoint a Special Master then?

I don't think it's been done -- I suspect that she'll enter an order 1) appointing a specific special master and 2) outlining procedures all at once.  She's already selected the likely special master, she just wants to nail down the process.

And it's the safe, smart thing for her to do.  Give the defendant what he asked for, then he has one less thing to bitch about.  It's the prudent course of action, makes the case more appeal-proof, etc.

I think their proposed special masters we’re all a joke though. She’s not gonna give them that.

An unbiased Special Master is of no use to them, which will be amusing.

Correct on both counts.

They asked for a special master, they're gonna get one.  Can't bitch about that.

And to bitch about the specific PERSON that ends up appointed....they're going to have to find a way to claim that a previously-sitting judge (or someone similar) is hopelessly biased....while simultaneously arguing that one of their choices would have been better.  And, oh, they WILL make that argument.  They'll just look like utter fools doing it.
