It is tough, but please do it as soon as possible and to the extent that makes them comfortable.  I am the executor of my dad's estate, and every day I deal with questions that he could have easily answered for me, many that I anticipated before his death, but it was too tough for me to ask them.  He would have gladly discussed everything with me, and I think that it would have made him feel better, but I was too afraid to ask.

You have the chance now; you won't after they pass.  They want to make their passing as easy on you as they can.  Help them do that.

This. All of this. My Mom knew the end was coming for two years but steadfastly refused to do any preparation whatsoever, including a will or naming an executor, or telling anyone about anything she had/where it was. As her oldest and her caretaker I had the inestimable joy of becoming the estate's administrator and sorting all that out. It took nearly 5 years before the estate was finally closed - and that with a very good estate attorney. The last best gift your parents can give you is to help make your life a little bit easier in the midst of grieving their loss. Talking with them now - as hard a subject as it is - will ease the burden while ensuring their wishes are followed.

OK, who on here did this and why was I not involved? We could rock NIL.

Money paid but no ship: The around-the-world cruise that is yet to set sail

"Throw your current lifestyle overboard!" boasts the advert for Victoria Cruises Line (VCL), which bills itself as the world's first affordable residential cruise.

Cabins typically go for US$3,840 (£2,858) a month for a three-year voyage to 115 countries, and travellers from all over the world have the option of doing the route for as long as they like.

For Australians Dennis and Taryna Wawn from Perth, excited by the prospect of a home at sea, the advert on Facebook couldn't have come at a better time as they planned their retirement.

Three years later, the ship has yet to sail. In fact, they and other would-be cruise residents have found that VCL does not even own or have a lease on the ship that is being advertised.

Airport lounges crack me up. Other than early morning kickoff games, it’s not really socially acceptable to start drinking at 6 am. But airport lounges with free drinks!  Errbody havin’ champagne, Bloody Marys, screwdrivers, mimosas, etc. Drink up, boys and girls!

I have dinner with my parents every Wednesday.  I'm really happy that my 14yo son gets to spend so much time with his grandparents.

He might not appreciate it much now but when they're gone he'll have a wealth of memories to look back on.

My mom is 82 and my dad is 79.  They're not in the best of health but have recently started trying to improve.  Dad has lost 15lbs (85 to go) and my mom has started going to the pool to work out and rebuild strength.

I'm really proud of them but I've noticed in the past few months they've been talking about their impending death, a lot.

Yesterday, my mom wanted to show me her new book and presented me with this:

I appreciate that they want to make things easier for me and my sister when they pass but this feels so morbid.

I suppose I need to quit with the denial and accept that the end is nigh.  It's tough to think about.

There’s an aspect to certain philosophies called memento mori.  It basically means to remember, and to actually mediate on, fact that we all have to die. It’s part of life.

It sounds morbid but it isn’t. The idea is that when you acknowledge and accept it, since it’s something no one can control and is inevitable for everyone, it takes the fear away and is very helpful in realizing that the days you do have are a gift and to remember to be present and make the most of them.

It sounds like you are already doing well on this by spending the regular time you are with your parents.

It’s so fucking to remove money from idiots. The only obstacle is having a conscience.

you can order crunchy tacos and put them in the fridge to eat the next day, but you'll need a fork to eat them

Scrape out the filling - separate the protein from the salad & refrigerate all.
Next day warm up the protein, crisp up the flattened out limp taco shell in the air fryer, then refill it with the meat & salad.

Better than a soggy mess.

That is sooo me two of the last three weeks.  My wife and I drove to Oregon to see our daughter and son-in-law.  One week up, one week back due to my wife's bad knee.  She needs frequent (like every hour) breaks, so we can't make it too far each day.  Every break was at least 20 minutes, once 40 minutes, while she was in the bathroom.  Aaaaggghhhh!!!!

If you regularly drive a 18 wheeler around loaded full of cargo, and then drive it unattached to any trailer whatsoever…will it feel like you gained 1000 horsepower or whatever.

Feels much the same way after taking a monster dump.
