When Mike Leach was at Tech, he used to get just absolutely shithoused. Totally torn up. Then he’d get out of his car and walk into whatever west Texas booster gathering he was required to go gladhand at and then go on a heater with outrageous claims about the future of the program.

After being found on the roadside, passed out and then driven home by a Tech friendly cop, Texas Tech’s AD then assigned a permanent driver for Leach when heading out to such functions.

The rumors have persisted that The Elk is ripping through 3/4s of a handle on a normal day, and he doesn’t like the glad handing and thinks he’s above it.

So I can see history repeating itself here:

Yup. We already hear it. It’s called “top 4 finish during the COVID year.” Which is also a fucking lie. But it’s a lie they tell.

Sure, why not? I don’t have the roster in front of me so someone else will have to help.

OL: Zuhn; any others are fantasy but that wouldn’t stop The Elk

TB: Moss, if he’s recovered and has a good year; He might be thinking that the NFL is really stupid and would draft Daniels or Owens

WR: Concepcion would have to have a big year and show something special. Not buying anyone else.

TE: The Swede in Elko’s fantasies. Don’t see it.

QB: No.

DT: Regis with a big year? Hicks out of nowhere?

Edge: Howell? No.

LB: Scooby Doo? No. York? lol.

NB: …

CB: Ricks? Hahaha. Chappell? Is this 2023?

S: Bryce Anderson has gone backwards. Not seeing it.

Edited.  Sorry.

No worries.

I'll generally answer the tenor of your post the best to my knowledge. I'm fairly far removed from the NIL group at this point, but as CTJ has told before, Tito isn't an NIL donor, and there is legal hair about him being involved because his wealth is all alcohol based, which is a no-no per Texas (or maybe national) NIL rules. That guy does give freely to the athletic department, however, pretty sure he was the biggest donor on our new practice facilities.

The other biggest donors to NIL to my knowledge are some attorneys under the age of 50 or 55. All our billionaires including Rawlings, Hildebrandt, and fucking Cal McNair have told us to pound sound for various reasons, most of which are stupid.

And at the same time they have also invented the fact that our NIL donors are all inheritants of generational wealth, unlike the self-made badasses  that donate to A&M.

The "Premier Program in all of College Football"

image.thumb.png.70be5b88be7727e39d7b3db3b0970cf8.png

We discussed this comment from Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko a bit on The Winning Drive Thursday afternoon. It's not outrageous for a head football coach to say something of this extent to a room full of folks who pay big money to support his program. In fact, any coach who does not have this belief in their program is a coach I would want far away from my program.

But the point of the matter is this – this list of A&M coaches who have mentioned anything similar to this in my lifetime would give me damn near a bingo.

My long-winded analogy on TWD was to that of baking a cake. A&M has all of the ingredients with its facilities, financial backing, fan support, conference affiliation – this would be known as the butter, flour, eggs, sugar, icing, etc. (Folks also realized that I haven't ever baked a cake on the show yesterday, and to that they are correct).

The elegant, award-winning cakes that end up featured on Cake Wars is exactly what A&M wants to bake each season. Yet, we have repeatedly seen nothing more than soulless sponge cake which has had only ever had some icing and decorations twice in the millennium.

To bake a cake, and in this instance, to build a consistent nationally competitive program, you have to go step by step. Texas has done that. From 5–7 to 8–5 to a conference championship and back to back berths in the College Football Playoff final four, Texas has taken the necessary steps.

To achieve the comments about being the premier program in the country, Texas A&M must first check off a few boxes. Most of those boxes would include, a win over Texas. a ten win season, a berth in the College Football Playoff and on and on. Giving A&M the benefit of the doubt, it could happen. Mike Elko is a what I believe to be a pretty good head coach.

But on the other hand, I could find myself on date with Sydney Sweeney because I consider myself to be a pretty good guy.

Sure, A&M could be competitive this year. But as long as Texas is recruiting, developing and performing the way that we have seen over the last two years, Texas A&M's dream of being the "premier program in the country" feels impossible. Especially if they can't first become the premier program in the state of Texas.

When you see this, CJ, I wish you a happy Memorial Day weekend.

Aggy ain’t shit. They have no ingredients to be anything. They are a second hand program and they don’t want to believe it which make them delusional. Even if they win something they’re still second rate. Money doesn’t change that.
