Hmm.. upon further review.. Jimbo to LSU, Elko to PSU, and Ed O to UCLA would create so many waves of fan frustration and culture clash I could feed off the tears instead of my own.

Yeah... that's a very delicious dream.

Can you imagine Ed O at UCLA?

This is the very reason why, despite my issues with Sark, I hope CDC forces him to hire the best OC out there and give that person complete control of the offense. I've little faith in our goofy selection process for HCs we'll end up with an option better than Sark. Strong Mensa out front should've told ya.

Hey, Tennessee and Schiano and aggy and Stoops still get memed constantly when it comes to embarrassing attempts to hire a coach

This went beyond just your average fan revolt to shut down a hire and into a full blown "governor who isn't even an LSU alum keeps stepping on landmines" type of CR quagmire

JFC, how long until Abbott gets jealous and starts meddling in UT's football program?  The LAST thing CFB needs is state governors getting deeply involved in hiring/firing decisions of coaches.

I guess he's waiting to see if The Leader gives the LA governor a pat on the head during his weekly blowjob

Would really love it if DJT does suggest Bill Parcells or something and then Landry has to soft shoe his way out of doing it.

I dont see that working. Sark views himself as one of the best OC's in the game, you can't separate that part of him in this job. He'll override that dude in the first big moment, its his identity We can make the demand, and let him look for another job if he doesnt like it, and I'd be fine with that. But what I dont want is a mopey Steve Sarkisian because he can't do what he's been doing his whole career (call plays) and really what he enjoys most. Its a recipe for disaster.

I think the more important thing for Sark is to get assistants, by whatever title, that will help him see and honestly evaluate the talent (and talent needs) and capability of the offense.

Something is wrong there.  That something could be Sark himself and it's unfixable, but I tend to doubt it.

Not really, but the possible alternatives given our illustrious historical processes and choices give me heavy pause. Rock and a hard place, I'm sadly getting used to it.

Yes, Sark needs a game day playcaller, even if we are always running Sark's system.  Call him Sark's fluffer / Loreal's fuck bitch, I don't care, but somebody needs to be helping Sark call plays.

I just think calling plays, building a game plan, orchestrating the offense to win a game is his own identity, its his passion. "giving someone else complete control of the offense" as you alluded to in the post I was responding to is basically making Sark a eunuch in his own mind. It won't go well.

Edit - just noticed that I thought I was responding to BurntEyes, so I need some coffee. I realize "complete control of the offense" was not your statement,

When was the last time a head coach was forced to make a change at OC or DC or give up playcalling duties, and it turned out well?  There may be examples, but I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Yeah, I don't disagree with your take. My hope is that heavy handed pressure from CDC, who's own job could be in jeapordy if we continue on our current path, gets Sark over what is clearly a control issue. That's the hitch, ego and control. Being forced to accept a new OC, not of solely his own choosing and not another yes man is, imo, the best hope. I say that only because I dont have confidence the wheels that turn Texas will go get Dan Lanning or Cignetti. I'm very afraid we'll end up with another up and coming project of some sort.

I disagree on CDC’s job being in jeopardy over Sark. We have been elite to borderline elite in everything but soccer and MBB under CDC, but we even got an Elite 8 out of it.  Including back to back VB ships, 3 tennis ships and the first ever softball ship.

And most importantly, the department runs in the black. I genuinely think CDC is the best in the business when you look at all aspects of what an AD needs to do. He's not a buffoon like some of these meatheads so he represents the university well, he seems to really understand and lead when it comes to the financial aspects of running an athletic department at a school like Texas, and across the board we do pretty well. Schools would fire their AD for no reason just for a chance to sniff CDC's boxers if he ever was available on the job market.

The biggest money maker of all is what's at stake with Sark.

You dont think YTTV and Disney weren't making money? But here we fucking are..

Texas' cash cow is football. When a companies biggest revenue producer is at stake all eyes turn to the CEO. That is CDC.

It's not what we are currently making or have made. It's what we stand to lose. This is business, very, very big business.

I don't disagree at all that CDC has done a great job. I also know that Texas cares about football more than anything else. CDC does too.

And yet Deloss was AD for 32 years with one national championship and plenty of shitty coaches.

Quote

During his 32-year tenure, he transformed the athletic department, leading it to win 14 national championships and 108 conference titles. His time at Texas was defined by his vision and leadership, which also included major facility developments, creating the Longhorn Network, and playing a key role in the formation of the Big 12 Conference

CDC hasn't even been here a decade and has 13 national championship since 2017, and some close finishes in  the sport that matters. CDC aint going anywhere for a long long time, at least not because he was forced out by UT. That's crazy talk. Wont happen.

Well, there's a big problem here and that is that CDC does not unilaterally control the HFC.  He didn't hire Sark, or it wasn't his choice.

Conversely, he doesn't control the firing of Sark.  For one thing, the purse strings he controls are inadequate to the job.

About all he can do is make recommendations, to Sark and to those who do control the hiring and firing of the HFC.

While some have suggested that the political controversy surrounding the LSU athletics department shake-up might scare away some potential candidates, Ausberry was confident the Tigers will find the right coach.

"We're LSU," Ausberry said. "This place is not broken. The athletic department is not broken. We win."

I should add that I feel pretty confident that CDC is going to have a very realistic meeting with Sarkisian and point out what a disaster this season is and demand some changes beyond "I'll fix it Chris, trust me."

Cover 3 bros (why do I still even listen to them) say LSU is top 3 and Texas is top 5. Their rationale is LSU has won 3 titles with 3 different coaches all pretty recently. I couldn't argue with them there.

LSU does seem like plug-and-play and I don't think I can say the same for UT.

Not to be an asshole but what kind of season were you expecting with mostly all new offensive starters including the most important positions on a team and also one of the youngest teams in the country. We’re 6-2 for gods sake. We’ve looked like shit sometimes and pretty good at other times like a young team. I’ve seen some senior teams look like shit all year and don’t have a 6-2 record to this point. I would think we were winless looking for a new coach if I didn’t watch the games and read this site.

Those guys are haters all the way. If it’s national championships that is the only consideration then sure. But everything else is better as the coach at Texas. Fuck those putos

I find this debate humorous. LSU is absolutely a better place if you want to win a national championship, because that's the primary reason for the school to exist. They will break rules and societal norms to try to make it happen. Texas is the better job because you don't have to worry about the entire athletic department going broke and your paycheck arriving in the form of nutria pelts and corndogs.

It’s hard to argue with facts. 3 titles with 3 different coaches since 2003. We would have two if Colt doesn’t get knocked out of our game. But nonetheless we have 1 MNC in football since 2003. We have had four different HC’s and no matter what after year 5 no matter who the HC is your seat is going to get hot with the amount of money we have spent. Top 5 money. We have never had as far as I know had a recruiting class ranked outside the top 20 since 2003. The hard reality is the money spent: people want an ROI. And going to the playoffs the last two years and winning a Big 12 CCG and also going to a SEC CCG does help. But the expectation is MNC. That will not change particularly now the playoffs have been expanded to 12 teams. The expectations are higher where the most money is being spent. You have to reload. You can’t be rebuilding in years 4-6 unless you lose your entire team Marshall style. I don’t make the rules. I wish a lot of this were not that way. The people with the money do. Year five you have your guys. Your staff may have been poached and you lose many to the draft but you are expected to reload barring some kind of unexpected catastrophe.

I fully understand that CDC doesn't ultimately make the call for the powers that be on football HCs. That complex hierarchy of decision making is the very reason I'm reluctant to see Sark fired. LSU's issue, while of a different causation in some ways illumate the fucked up aspects of deciding on a head coach and Texas is not immune. CDC is, however, the point man on communication to Sark to voice the displeasure and demands of those in the complex Texas system. Hence, I was using CDC as a representation of all those aspects, which I thought I had pointed out in prior posts on this thread in directly. Clearly, I didn't and so, now I am.

Firing anyone is a much more expensive and painful process than getting them to correct the errors they are making in their job. The problems with Sark are concentrated primarily around the offensive aspects and his yes men in that group don't help. CDC is very smart and so are the powers behind him, as such they know the issues too. Forcing the best OC upon him is the easiest potential fix. Finding a new HC much more difficult. Something has to be done or it will end up with a Florida/LSU/PSU sort of situation at some point in the future which is far more problematic that forcing Sark to take his lumps now. For Sark, getting fired isn't gonna be great for his future job opportunities. Though it is football coaching which is its own weird protective racket. Jerry would probably embrace him with open arms as a new puppet to sell more tickets and swag.

I listened to the Locked On LSU show out of curiosity. The forcing out of Woodward was more politically motivated than I realized. Here's to hoping LSU ends up with a worse coach and AD. Would be hilarious to see this goofus governor get annihilated in his next election because his meddling backfired.

After listening to that governor, I’m not sure why anyone would want that job. Here’s hoping they go back into obscurity pre-Saban
