all the great Texas qbs thru the years were mobile and made plays with their legs. Quinn doesn't , so he gets no benefit of the doubt and is no good to a lot of fans. I feel QE will be the qb compared to in the future for all non mobile qbs that'll be playing for Texas.

I am guessing it is a bit more complex than that. Quinn was a good college QB with some warts. His pocket presence was bad. He was good for 1-3 self-sacks a game. He was probably among the leaders in turnovers nationally with 17 this year. Not to mention Sark benched him. That kind of woke up the national media and fanbase on the Manning/Ewers debate.

I don't really have a GAF either way, but most fans compare their qbs to the elite of the elite all the time which makes me laugh. QE is like most of the qbs out there.  the hate for him not being in the elite of the elite and just a good college qb is crazy but I get it. I want to win also and wish he had another gear. congrats to the team and Quinn also. been a good 2 yr stretch, lets make it an amazing 3 yr stretch and win the dam thing next year.

You can blame Sark for the 2nd down call or Cam Williams for the missed block, but the fact remains we are 0 for 8 in trying to score a TD inside the opponent's red area in two semifinals. The blame must go to both the playcaller and the QB in addition to evey other role players who missed their assignments.

50% is on the players. 50% is on the coaches. And 50% is on the QB.

You know Georgia fans were also critical of Carson Beck who has stats this year extremely similar to Quinn's and a team that's also sitting on the couch for the National Championship.

I was referring to the fans that blame all losses on the qb. Being critical of qb play while understanding other parts of the team didn't hold up is not what I was talking about.

Ant Hill deserves more criticism than Quinn for giving up the long TD run before the half. What the hell was he doing taking himself out of the play, as if he had no intention of tackling the ball carrier?

What’s the point of even saying shit like this? I’m sure Hill and all 10 other players on the field readily admit they fucked that play up

It was a zone blitz for some reason, Hill was dropping into pass coverage. Then you see #3 Guilbeau twenty yards away at cornerback coming to rush the passer. He runs himself right out of the play.

You have to be looking for a draw or screen in that situation. OSU chose a screen; it was just a safe play to see if they could get some yards and then maybe try to get in field goal range.

The rest like first and goal at the one is history now, bad history.

I liked Chris Simms. That kid (man) gave us all he had, and won a lot of games. Some fans wanted to rate him on what he didn’t do, rather than what he did (for the record- ten thousand times more than those same fans contributed to the program).  Because of that, Simms really doesn’t want anything to do with the Texas program, and to some extent, regrets playing here.

I hope we won’t be that way about Quinn.

Was Cam Williams really healthy? I know he was cleared to play. Bond was too and he wasn't healthy and maybe even Ewers isn't either, will never know it seems.
A healthy Goosby might have been a better option than a dinged-up Cam Williams.
Still the bad call of a deep pitch against a defense with that kind of speed shouldn't have happened.

The only thing that makes sense is Sark wanted a spark in the run game. But should have subbed Goosby for a portion of those snaps once it became obvious we weren’t running on them.

I’m glad we had Quinn, I’m glad Sark is here. Both helped put Texas back where it belongs. Both need to be better.

Sark has had RedZone issues on more than one team. He has a lot of growing to do as a HC. We’ve seen positive growth at Texas. We just all wish it happened faster.

Do you have anything to support any of what you just said about Chris Simms and his feeling about the University of Texas, Texas Athletics or Texas Football or is this just fan fiction?

Speak of.. here are his thoughts in Quinn

Odd that Simms keeps saying we when referring to the Texas football team.

I was at a function with Phil Simms a few years ago and he claimed (to my surprise) that Chris enjoyed his time at Texas.

Quinn is a stiff in a time when the traditional drop back passing QB is dying. This is a big issue which led to too many 3 and outs and the offense stalling out in the red zone.

Look at guys like Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, and Jayden McDaniels. All made huge plays with their feet to extend drives or evade the rush when the pocket broke down.

Hopefully having guys with some mobility like Manning and Lacy will help solve some Sark's red zone issues.

I’m certain if you look at a list of all 32 starting QBs most of them are mobile enough to extend plays, get out of the pocket, or run as well. I don’t believe there are any Brees, Manning, or Brady pure pocket guys outside of rare exception like Flacco who is essentially a backup. Goff, Stafford, Darnold, and the now benched Kirk Cousins are all mobile enough. In my opinion if you can’t do it in college the odds of being able to do it in the league and suddenly flip a switch are slim to none.

I've decided to extend this rating system into the playoff.

Here's what Quinn has done so far since I started this highly scientific rating system:

1. Texas 49-17 vs. Florida. Score = 100.0

2. Texas 20-10 vs. Arkansas Score = 72.0

3. Texas 31-14 vs. Kentucky Score = 77.6

4. Texas 17-7 vs. Aggy Score = 89.1

5. Georgia 22-19 vs. Texas Score = 70.6

Here is how the playoff games will factor into the rating going forward:

6. First Round Game vs. Clemson. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

7. Quarterfinal Game vs. Arizona State. Sum Ewers QBR +20 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

8. Semifinal Game vs. Oregon, Ohio State or Tennessee. Sum Ewers QBR +30 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

9. Championship Game vs. Some Asshole. Sum Ewers QBR +60 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

Here is our scale again, unchanged:

0-65.0 : THE ULTIMATE PUSSY : Sorry Quinn, you are officially and forever a Huge Pussy

65-75 : PRETTY MUCH A PUSSY : Quinn, you had so much potential but you ended up playing like a Pussy for us. There might be hope for you in the future though.

75-85 : KIND OF A PUSSY : Quinn, we would have had a real shot this season if you didn't play like a pussy one too many times. Good luck in the NFL though bro.

85-95 : MOST LIKELY NOT A PUSSY : Quinn did enough to win, but could he have done more? (I admit if we end up here the argument will go on. I'll take my chances)

95-100 : DEFINITELY NOT A PUSSY : You can say what you want about Quinn Ewers, but he ain't no pussy.

100+ : DUDE IS A BOSS : It turns out you guys have just been haters the whole time. Potential Longhorn Legend.

Quinn is sitting not-so-pretty at an average of 81.9, which is KIND OF A PUSSY. Pretty much the worst he could end up after the playoffs is PRETTY MUCH A PUSSY, which would be a drop of one category.

He could easily get to MOST LIKELY NOT A PUSSY with a few wins and solid performances. To get to DEFINITELY NOT A PUSSY he would probably have to at least make the championship game and play well.

Crunching a few numbers DUDE IS A BOSS is pretty much only achievable if he wins the whole fucking thing and plays out of his mind the whole time.

GoodLuck.thumb.jpg.36144ffd061d2704d967ea33fb36c3a0.jpg

1. Texas 49-17 vs. Florida. Score = 100.0

2. Texas 20-10 vs. Arkansas Score = 72.0

3. Texas 31-14 vs. Kentucky Score = 77.6

4. Texas 17-7 vs. Aggy Score = 89.1

5. Georgia 22-19 vs. Texas Score = 70.6

6. Texas 38-24 vs. Clemson Score = 97.5

7. Texas 39-31 vs. Arizona State Score = 112.0

8. Texas 14-28 vs. Ohio State Score = 59.6 (QBR 69.6 -10 for loss)

Time to put this one to bed.

Quinn dropped his average to 84.8, which changed his category to KIND OF A PUSSY! -- "Quinn, we would have had a real shot this season if you didn't play like a pussy one too many times. Good luck in the NFL though bro."

When I started this, my goal was just to inject a little levity into this toxic thread. Somehow the final score seems pretty appropriate though.

Still, I appreciate Quinn for leading the team to a conference championship (rare for us over the past 30 years), two straight CFP semi-final appearances, and a return to national relevance. Good luck wherever you end up next! I will be pulling for you. Hook 'em! 🤘

Who gives a shit? The 2nd down play call was not Quinn and that was the game.

It shouldn't have mattered because Golden was wide fucking open for a 40-yard TD, but Ewers had to throw a float ball that Golden had to leap to catch.

Has anyone heard from Burton lately? I don't follow any of the 9.95ers but I remember seeing a tweet from him 2-3 weeks ago saying that Quinn is 100% going to the NFL draft once the NIL-transfer deals started getting tossed around. I'm curious if he still feels that way or if he's changed his tune.

Yup, right before the Cotton Bowl he was being interviewed by Pete Thamel and he said "nope, not playing college ball next year".  Is that written in stone?  Maybe not, but it's clearly not high on his list of priorities at this moment.

I don't know how you turn down $6M+ to stay in college one more season and work on your game if you aren't almost guaranteed getting picked in the first 2 rounds.

$6M to risk an injury that ends your career or $1M+ to play one of best/safest jobs in all of sports (also, it's contractually $1M+ per year and a $1M+ signing bonus if he goes round 3, which feels right)? Give me the easy button.

$2M rookie NFL money, or $6M NIL, the chance to enhance NFL value, and a loss of value insurance policy.  I am sticking with college pussy.  Undefeated!

its an NIL world now, so all of this could be BS. Ewers was probably telling the truth that he intends to go to the draft. That does not mean if OSU or Bama call and offer him 6-8 million for a season, he wont change his mind. If he was my kid, I would tell him to wait until the last minute to officially apply to the draft
