Except we had a team record 11 guys drafted last year. And we’ll have several more taken this year.

Please stop acting like Quinn’s supporting cast isn’t a critical ingredient of the success we’ve had during his run as QB1. He’s benefited from a significant increase in our talent floor combined with a consistent coaching staff and offensive scheme. A guy like Ehlinger never had any of that.

Quinn has plenty of skins on the wall, but he sure as shit didn’t hang them up all by himself.

That describes McElroys Alabama?

Granted it’s not his fan base, but I don’t recall anything positive from our fan base about McElroys efforts.

This doesn’t even tell the full story.  We’ve had the top back taken 2 years running.  The fastest combo of WRs at the NFL combine ever.  Is this the first ever we’ve had TEs taken in back to back years?

And not to mention our defense relatively speaking has been better than the offense all 3 years.  Is it the best 3 year run defensively in 40 years?

I will, I look forward to it. Can't wait to see the same people turn on him when he doesn't perform to their standard. And we can start all this shit over again.

His play style is very different. The eye test is more favorable for him because he feels pressure and runs (while still looking to pass)

His creativity allows for more production when the play isn’t there.

Unless I can’t count…the guy has 7 TDs and 6 turnovers (4 INTs and 2 fumbles) in the last 5 games since Florida. We are 103rd in TD% in the red zone on the year. I highly implore his strongest backers to listen to guys like Todd McShay and Bruce Feldman who reacted after this weekend’s games. The consensus is pretty resoundingly “he’s…fine, but something is just not quite right” with our passing game given his pedigree and they’re both wishy-washy on Texas’s ultimate chances at a title unless he starts producing near his ceiling for 4 straight quarters in these games. These are national / neutral college football heads who have the same skepticism as a lot of us do.

I’m convinced he’s just been hurt all year. That’s really the most likely explanation. The abdominal early in season bothered him after coming back probably sooner than he should have. Then, that’s probably about fully healed and he sprains his ankle badly vs Kentucky. Mix in some between-the-ears shit as NFL guys are concerned about his injury history and he’s falling out of the first round of the Draft. For somebody who has been building to be drafted highly since he was a sophomore in HS, I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t playing a part in this.

Though Klubnik outplayed him ultimately at QB, I think Ewers looked pretty good on Saturday. Of course it helps when Blue and Wisner are running all over Clemson. I can quibble with a few throws but overall, I think he was good. He had a big scramble that extended a crucial TD drive and that was great to see. I’ve come to grips with the fact that we aren’t likely to see any jaw-dropping play from him the rest of the way because of the health thing. If we can beat ASU, the next round will tell the tale on Ewers.

That Alabama was also dominant compared to any team. Nobody was close to them. Unlike, this year no one is that dominant anymore.

100% -- missed mentioning that in my post. I get the buzz when Arch comes in but it's gotten cringey at this point. He's coming in to either hand the ball off or try and power for a first down. This isn't him coming in to spell a clearly-struggling Ewers in Georgia 1 -- that was kind of a "wow" moment. This is not and if I'm Ewers, I might mutter "motherfucker" every time he comes on to 100K+ screeches after I've just marched the team 60+ yards down the field.

Yes and I don’t think it’s fair to either of them. Just like the major/Chris situation.  But what if, Arch is a decent teammate

I actually fully agree in this regard. My thoughts on Sark's lack of using Arch aside, the cheering for Arch by fans is, as you said, cringey. I'd go past cringey and say annoying.

I would hope that it doesn't negatively impact Quinn, but it's entirely possible.

You know it is. Hell, we get tired of hearing it from outside media and people just stirring up clicks. I think he’s came back from injury early and played through some stuff he normally wouldn’t, because if he missed 4 or 5 games, he may have been afraid he wouldn’t be the starter coming back.

Yep. First off, I love Sark and want him here a long time. But I think he's doing both of them a disservice with the way he uses Arch's abilities. It's almost like he's using Arch a few times just to shut up the fans clamoring for him to come on. Otherwise, I think he'd be doing different things with Arch out of that package, kind of like Urban did with Tebow. Maybe it's coming but it's getting awful late in the season for it.

At this point, I agree.  Put Arch back in the box unless there is an injury or code red situation. Doubt we need him for ASU, and assuming we win, we want fully confident Quinn for the OSU or Oregon matchup.

Yeah, his use of Arch is frustrating at best. I mean, I just can’t see him doing it just to appease fans, hell it generates more controversy and frustration than if he just kept him on the bench.

Sark is very hard headed and if he was going to use Arch in more ways I truly believe that the SEC championship game would have been time. I can't see saving it for say, Oregon/OSU or hopefully ND/Georgia3, when I think it would potentially be needed. Sark's ego or hard headed approach is truly my biggest concern about him, but I'll leave further discussion of that topic for the Sark thread.

Sit Arch or actually use him or in other parlance "Shit or get off the pot".

I don't see it as a neg on Quinn, I just find it annoying. Then again I was pro-James Brown and started a chant "Free James Brown" in the stadium way back when, so I'm also a hypocrite of the highest order. Not to be confused with my membership in the Order of Quinn's White Knights.

I actually would prefer he have Arch play in each game but leave him in for more snaps. Just having him come in for a single snap I think is counterproductive. More snaps gives him an opportunity to get in rhythm and keeps him "warm" for the playoffs in the event he has to actually take the reigns due to an Ewers injury. Delicate balance to strike though. Enough snaps to be productive for Arch, but not so many you take Ewers out of rhythm either. But Sark may feel coming in for a single snap during the red zone is enough for that. Other thought is, Sark absolutely hates revealing too much film to opponents. He may have scripts and packages for Arch he doesn't want seen until it becomes necessary to uncork them.

I think Sark is using Arch to set up other options for Quinn down the road. Everytime he trots Arch out there reinforces in peoples' minds that "Quinn isn't a running threat. If they want to run, then UT will put in Arch."

Like someone said in another thread, tendencies can work for you when you know when to break them.

I'd like to think you're right on this. Quinn looked healthier last week, but one big hit and Arch could instantly become the man, and he won't be nearly as ready as he would have had Sark taken advantage of  opportunities to get him some playing time in the previous ten weeks. If there's an injury and Arch can't get us past OSU or Oregon, it will be because Sark took his foot off the gas several times when he shouldn't have.

I too would like to think Arch is getting some extra attention in practice the last few weeks and will come out of the gates kicking ass and chewing bubble gum. It would be a story for the ages. It's possible, I suppose, that the team has been told to keep under wraps anything like that which might be going on in practice. Have any reporters ask Sark what they're doing for Arch? Seems like a hell of a good question.

ProQuinn sounds like a good name for a new malaria drug.  Bet his agent will have him on commercials dressed as a doctor for that one if it is ever invented.  ProArch might be a good one for Athletic shoes now that I think about it.

Klubnik outplayed him how? He did what he was asked to do and played a clean game. Klubnik was asked to throw it more times. That is it.

For what it's worth, sports-reference has their ratings at 144.5 (Klubnik) and 147.0 (Ewers) for that game.

I mean, technically you are right. But Klubnik was asked to do more and executed that "more" very well. In gymnastics, Quinn would have executed a lower difficulty routine very well, and Klubnik a high difficulty routines very well. Judges would give the higher score to Klubnik. Maybe Quinn could execute a higher difficulty routine, but we haven't seen Quinn do that this season (at least since his injuries).

Yeah twins is probably a nightmare. I had two in diapers at the same time and that was plenty. I couldn't imagine them being the exact same age and exact same genes. Maybe they will be non-identical twins or whatever.

Cuz he knows Helm is going to snag that TD

Sark coaching around Quinn

Couple minutes in “If klubnik were the Texas qb they’d be my pick”

Late to the show on this one.  This is Colin Cowherd and John Middlekauff, with Middlekauff making the "coaching around Quinn" statements.  For the record, he is a *former* NFL scout and *former* contributor for the Athletic Bay Area.  He is now a podcast host who "is not afraid to swim into any topic."  He's going to monetize his good/bad/whatever takes until he no longer can.  Pro-blue blood takes sell; anti-blue blood takes sell.  Until people tire of you.  I listened to him for about 30 seconds and tired of him.

True, but he (Middlekauf) could take 3 random posts from this thread and turn it into 30 minutes of idiotic rambling.

EDIT to add: "former NFL scout" on Middlekauf's CV is somewhat damning.  "Prolific message board poster and aspiring NFL scout" is less damning.
