With nobody in front of him, this was supposed to be his stepping out year, and he just didn't play like a primary receiver.  He's a big bodied, fast receiver that at times, shows an absurd catch radius and should be setting the tone for that group of players.  Maybe next year, but he's not that dude yet, and really shouldn't be until he outright seizes it.

I mean, he did get better numbers-wise. He added 300 more yards and 5 more TD's to get to 50/770/7 15.4 ypc for the season so far, and last year he went 29/472/2 16.3 ypc. His ypc went down a yard, but otherwise he's on the right trajectory. Next season (hopefully) he can learn to catch a pass consistently and win 50/50 balls, or else Sark will have to let Lockett give it a try. I doubt that happens since he lacks a spine, but here we are.

Bobby loves hyperbole and keeps yammering that he's like Roy Williams athletically, which is fucking retarded. He's a great athlete, but he's not even in the same stratosphere as Roy.

Strange. He took some time to adjust, but has been serviceable down the stretch. His last couple games in particular have been solid (yes I know Arky sucks). Unless they have someone lined up, seems like they'd want him back.

Do some of you watch these games with the sound off and your eyes closed? Robertson spent the entire first half getting ruthlessly ass fucked by the Aggie DL and nearly got Arch killed a handful of times. The only reason it looked better in the second half is because in one of the more inexplicable moments of coaching malpractice the Aggies almost entirely abandoned the blitz at halftime.

Yes they had some nice blocks in the run game. Doesn't mean he isn't a massive liability or that we shouldn't do all in our power to upgrade from him in the portal.

Wingo has all the physical gifts to be great but doesn't seem to get the position technically or have the sense to practice / learn it. Maybe he'll grow up this year and realize "potential" means shit the further you get.

Correct. He doesn't seem to do the little things to be great, like using the JUGS machine after practice or on off-days. He's a weak blocker, but he has improved his route running. But yeah, like you said—he doesn't seem to "get it." He's an athlete playing the position, much like Terrell Pryor. He can be great, but he doesn't put in the extra work.

I'm not sure how he believes he will be in the NFL long-term if you don't do the work 365 days a year. It's frustrating because I can see he has the tools and he's gifted, but he doesn't have the same mindset of Jeremiah Smith/Ryan Williams/Bryant Wesco, Jr, etc.

Ethan Burke, Parker Livingstone and Jack Endries were 3 star white guys. Michael Taafe was an unranked walk on.  Matthew Caldwell unranked too. Those 5 crackers have contributed this year aside from STs.

I believe Endries was a walk-on like Taaffe who earned a scholarship. So 2/4 were former walk-on's, while our OG earned all American status, too.

I'll take those kind of crackers all day long. Burke being a three-star is fucking comical. Go look at his HS tape and at no point does he look the part of "three-star." If anything, he looked like a four-star with potential, which he lived up to.

I'll admit Burke didn't quite achieve what I expected after watching the HS tape, though he had a very good career. Thought he would be a ripped 275-280 lb by now but I guess that'll happen in the NFL. Too bad he doesn't have a 5th year.

Burke didn’t quite become Hutch, but he did very well considering his ranking. His best football is ahead of him if he keeps up his work ethic.
Was hoping Vasek would be more impactful by now, but we’ll see if he sticks around to take another crack at it.

Wow that would be huge to get him locked up asap. LSU full court press coming + visit highs wear off fast

Hmm they blitzed plenty in the 2nd half, that's part of what made the run game effective is they rushed up field too fast and took themselves out of the play.

Also I know both Wingo's TD and Arch's TD were on blitzes.

If he’s already bulked up to 281 in high school, I feel pretty confident saying the weight won’t be much of an issue.

Has he though? Gabe Brooks on 06/03/2025 said he weighed 240lbs. On3 has him listed as an edge at 240lbs. Rivals has him listed as a DL at 250lbs. ESPN has him listed as an end at 235lbs. I watched the Temple Reagan game this year where he had 1 sack and 2 tackles and overall didn't make much of an impact. His stats for 2025 were good, though, 68 total tackles, five sacks, six pass-breakups and a forced fumble. Those stats and watching him play scream DT but he seemed to get pushed around too much when I watched him. Anyway, that's why I called him a tweener. Tell me what you see though in the games you watched.

Buddy, you don't have to like him. I don't really care. But Gerry is reporting today that he's 281 lbs, and you're disputing that with listed weights on recruiting site profiles that are notoriously rarely ever updated. Oh. ESPN says he 235 lbs! Why would anyone give a shit about that? ESPN recruiting is run by a lone intern in a broom closet somewhere in Bristol, they haven't cared about that in years.

Also, ON3 and Rivals are the same thing now. I don't even know how you got two different listed weights there.

Google gave 1 weight for On3 and the link/click through gave a different weight on Rivals. Anyway, he supposedly will start out at edge and move inside when he reshapes his body. He won't see the field for a couple of years from what I can tell.

He was ranked a three star because he is white and had a dad bod especially compared to his classmate Vasek.

I always liked that he was multi sport athlete and lacrosse being the other sport.

Can’t teach motor or long arms.  Great career Burke.  You’d done well.  Now go get a second contract in the nfl.

My guess is mid round pick to an NFL team that likes to moneyball it.

Burke has some really good tape against quality opponents and likely shows an upward trend. Combine that with his measurables and potential and he's a 6th rounder at worst.

If Charles Omenihu can collect NFL paychecks then surely Ethan Burke can.

This isn't to take anything away from Burke, but that's 2018 Big 12 Lineman of the year Omenihu, and who also had nine sacks his senior year (Burke, by comparison, had three).

Last year in the same position Barryn Sorrel had six sacks.

Charlie Williams: Why LSU Under Lane Kiffin Is Now a Big Threat to Texas Recruiting

Quote

Lane Kiffin’s move to LSU is one of the biggest coaching shifts of the cycle, and it immediately affects Texas on the recruiting trail. When you look at LSU’s current class, two names stand out: Brysten Martinez and Richard Anderson. Both visited Texas. Both were major Longhorn priorities. And both now become far tougher to flip with Kiffin taking over in Baton Rouge.

Martinez matters because he plays offensive line, a position Texas needs to hit this cycle. Anderson is the No. 1 defensive tackle in the country, and the Longhorns hoped to pair him with an already loaded defensive line group. Texas had real traction with both, but Kiffin’s hire shifts the momentum in LSU’s favor. A major reason is simple: Kiffin has deep inroads in Louisiana. Coaches, trainers, and local influencers trust him.

They’ve seen him recruit Louisiana talent and develop them at a high level. When I spoke with someone from Edna Karr’s staff, where Anderson attends, the message was clear: “Hey, we really like Lane Kiffin. He’s recruited a ton of our players. He really cares for our kids. And it’s not just talk. He’s the guy we wanted to get the job at LSU.” That type of endorsement carries real weight in Louisiana, where relationships and trust mean everything in recruiting.

The challenge for Texas grows with the expected move of Billy Glasscock from Ole Miss to LSU. Glasscock, a former Longhorn, is one of the top personnel evaluators in college football and has deep connections in Texas. Pair his Texas network with Kiffin’s Louisiana ties, and LSU suddenly has a strong recruiting presence on both sides of the border. Plus, recently netting five-star, No. 1 WR Easton Royal to the Horns 2027 class will be something to watch even closer since Ole Miss was one of Royal’s top teams.

Texas will still recruit Louisiana hard. They have the SEC platform, national brand power, and a clear development pipeline. The Longhorns will still win some battles. But each one will now come with a lot more resistance from LSU.

Recruiting: Decisions, decisions, decisions (Monday 7:23am CT) - Gerry

Recruiting: Decisions, decisions, decisions (Monday 7:23am CT)

Recruiting: Decisions, decisions, decisions

The early signing period begins December 3. The Longhorns currently have the No. 7 ranked class with 24 commitments, and are awaiting the decisions of three known targets.

Then there is also the likelihood that the Longhorns will lose one commitment.

OnTexasFootball has the latest to begin the week.

The key decisions remaining ...
1. OTF still expects 4-star+ defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland (Birmingham, Al./Parker) to flip to North Carolina.

2. 4-star++ OT and Michigan pledge Malakai Lee (Honolulu, Hi./Kamehameha) continues to have dialogue with Kyle Flood and Texas. Michigan does understand that Texas is battling hard down the stretch, and that the Longhorns have had a punchers chance in recent weeks. Texas believes they are in it.

3. 4-star+ OT and LSU pledge Brysten Martinez (Gonzales, La./East Ascension) is weighing Texas vs. LSU. There is excitement in the Martinez camp with the hire of Lane Kiffin, which puts the ball directly in his court. That could either be an increased NIL deal, or Brad Davis being retained (at least in the short term). Martinez committed early to LSU for a reason. Now it's up to Kiffin to get him to stay. If not, he will be a Longhorn.

4. Defensive back Toray Davis (Boulder, Co./Fairview) is definitely a take for Texas, and the Longhorns have a 50-50 shot with Washington being the competition. I spoke with a Big 12 assistant that watched and offered Davis on Sunday. He believes Davis best spot long term is at safety.

The class ranking scenarios ...
1. If Texas essentially trades a Cleveland ranking for an OT, it's a wash. Still 7.

2. If Texas wins out for Martinez and Lee, combined with losing Cleveland .. 5 or 6

3. If Texas wins out for Martinez, Lee and Davis; combined with losing Cleveland ... 5

Frankly I'd be fine sacrificing all these other recruits to flip the 5* DT and go all in on the portal.

Go for broke in 2026. We'll have the best QB in the country next year and a good roster nucleus if most of these draft eligible guys come back. Who knows if Sark will start eye fucking some NFL team after that and leave anyway.

Interestingly, from The Athletic's draft guys today:

"Another of the standout performers for the Longhorns came from senior defensive end Ethan Burke, who made plays on defense and special teams. Though not a high-level athlete, the Austin, Texas, native plays physical at the point of attack and isn’t shy about sticking his nose into the fire. Considered a borderline draft pick entering the season, Burke has built a strong case to hear his name on Day 3, thanks to tapes like the Texas A&M and Vanderbilt games."

The only fireworks I wanna see are the ones where we land some quality OL transfers and a bruising transfer RB with good feet and contact balance. I would also take some more interior DL.

Last thing we need right now is more expensive true freshmen who are marginal contributors.

Of course Satya posts the LSU recruiting Armageddon story. Come on Satya. Cheer up.

It’s funny because Lane Kiffin notoriously hates HS recruiting. Ole Miss lived off of the portal. He will get the Louisiana kids because any LSU coach with a pulse gets the Louisiana kids, not because he’s some recruiting wizard.

Honestly, my only disappointment is we didn't get to see him and Vasek together. Burke has been a really, really good player for us. Vasek is dead, I guess. I would take Burke every single recruiting class if I could, and yeah, it sucks he doesn't have a 5th year.

I guess some people's initial expectations for Burke wildly differed from mine, because I feel like he actually overachieved here. He was a 3-star/low 4 star from Westlake. People made all the usual jokes about that at the time he committed, but he became a really solid player for us, who made game-changing plays on several occasions.

I'm with you. I also believe he overachieved, and his tape still said 'four-star,' but developmental (like he should have been ranked in the 350's). He did better than I thought. I don't just look at total sacks and all of that, I watch the games and see he's been a disruptor the last 2 seasons, showed real flash his sophomore season, and I can't remember his freshman season, tbh.
