Meh don’t want to play Michigan. But another win, getting us to 10 wins, and over a Marquee team…I’ll take it.  Will be the best bowl game most likely.

... and probably better than anything in the first round of the CFP.

If Surly gets a committee seat, yes! Bring on Texas, UNT, ODU and boot  Bama with ND if needed.

Otherwise I bet the room isn't pro Texas jumping a second B12 team or the ACC completely.  Blocking Texas and Miami is probably the bigger leverage to get to 16.

Update: blocking Texas and ND is the best way to get to 16!

P.s. love having 2 Arkansas ADs on the committee.

fuck them, ban them from next year's playoffs. Tell them if they want to get in join a conference and stop being a bitch

Seems pretty unlikely after just cutting a deal with them to let them in no matter what if they get in the top 12 rankings.

This was probably the last chance they had to block them, with the schedule Notre Dame plays.

The bitchassedness pandemic is real.

It isn't, it's reality. The college football calendar is so incredibly fucked up now.

Bowls shouldn't be happening that late any more - matchups should be and could be set and bowls could start CCG weekend and go through next weekend and then CFB is done except the playoffs. That's how it should be, exhibition games.

I don't disagree that the college football landscape is in a state of upheaval (thanks in part to the current moronic committee), but declining the opportunity to get extra practices, see how young players react to game situations, acclimate new coaches into systems, etc., etc., is both shortsighted and weak, IMO.

As far as timing goes, I doubt many people want to see bowl games happening in the first week of December.

I want to watch Simmons absolutely wreck Underwood's shit. A double digit victory season is at stake, Texas still has something to play for.

The problem with bowl games now is that the post season feels completely manufactured and meaningless when there's a meaningful postseason still going on on the other side.

Extra practices aren't as meaningful as some of you guys are projecting them to be on the higher end P4 teams especially the SEC and B1G teams.

The transfer portal is also massive, a lot of guys will use the bowl as a way to put things on tape and get more money or transfer out etc. Its just a completely misaligned incentive/reward structure.

Answer me this. Who are bowl games for?

I think the bowl games used to be for the teams as a reward - get swag, a trip, do fun stuff etc.

Now I think the bowls are only for the money. This is why they suck now.

Which bowls are you talking about?  There are already bowls that get played starting next weekend, and nobody fucking watches them except fans of the shitty teams that are playing in those games.  And you want to see bowls starting even earlier in the month, i.e., the first weekend in December?

Well, you're in luck then.  Be sure to tune into the Cricket Celebration Bowl and the Bucked Up LA Bowl, because both of those games are being played next weekend.  I'm sure dozens will be enthralled.

I am saying move the entire bowl schedule including the good ones up and leave just the playoffs and stuff late.

That would, IMO, only exacerbate the bowl oversaturation issue, which is already a problem.

I actually agree with immamac. And now I guess I need a shower.

Bowls used to be a reward. They were about pride and an honor for a rewarding season.

Now money rules everything. Opt outs for players and it appears teams en masse. Such a shame to see it unravel.

I know it didn’t end well, but fuck all was I on cloud nine watching the Sugar Bowl against Va Tech. Until the game started of course.

Why are some of those teams declining bowl bids?

The coaches probably a) want to work the portal and b) prevent guys they want to keep going to the portal.

also, if you are 5-7 do you want to take a chance on losing to Georgia Southern because your best players portal or opt out?

We clearly got jobbed by the committee. But now that’s in the past so time to move on.

I don’t hate the idea of playing meat chicken in a bowl in Florida. Guess the question now is do the teams and players take it seriously, and do we get a bunch of players bailing on the game.

I doubt the teams net any money for these crappy bowls.  The coaches just want to scout and recruit other rosters.   The players are only interested in getting their next NIL deal and being recruited.  In short, nobody cares.  Getting 15 extra practices is less valuable than securing 15 experienced transfers.

The Cheese It Citrus Bowl is emblematic of the incongruity of the college football system and subservience to desperate money grabs.

You’re the Citrus Bowl in fucking Orlando, Florida. you cant find a fucking OJ sponsor. Or, a soft drink sponsor. Or, Disney. Or, airline sponsor. Or, caprisun. Or restaurant that serves things with citrus. You go with a processed Cheese snack? Make this make sense outside of some bullshit reason.

Schools lose money in the bowls and there’s no proof the extra practices make any difference. I’m surprised it took this long.

I think the horns would be too fragile. You’d have a bunch of polled cows when you open the bag. And a bunch of loose horns clear down at the bottom.

We (K-State) just flipped coaches. And we won six goddamn games this year. It’s not like we’re declining the Rose Bowl.

Surely they’ll be normal shaped Cheez-Its with the Longhorn logo embossed. Surely…

Not naive. But the dollars are much higher (even inflation adjusted) and concentrated (as you said). So now it only about the money.

The Birmingham Bowl finally has a matchup! Hilariously, App State just played Georgia Southern a month ago (they're conference rivals)

Why would the CFP care if they played in a bowl the previous year or not?
