Brady played a completely different style than mahomes. He was nearly immobile and had a god tier offensive line.

Mahomes will have to reinvent his style of play.

Yup.  Tom had 0 athleticism so he relied on it 0 percent.  Mahomes' entire shtick is he gets outside of the pocket, extends plays, and plays backyard football with a few elite play makers.  He no longer has the elite play makers.  Now he might not have the athleticism.  Gonna have to reinvent his game.

He's not Lamar Jackson. He'll be fine.

Hell, unathletic Brady scrambled more after his ACL because the OL faded and he needed to make plays.

That goes to show how important it is for QBs to be in the right situation, even great QBs.  Mahomes landed in an ideal place in the NFL.  His head coach is an offensive genius plus Reid is the only head coach he has had in the NFL, he has always had elite playmakers catching his passes, he doesn't have to constantly run for his life behind a patchwork OL, Kansas City's owners aren't cheapskates or attention whores or greaseballs, he was allowed to ease into the starting job because he wasn't expected to bail out a franchise that had been poorly run since he was in elementary school on day 1 of his rookie year.  If some dumpster team like the Jets or the Browns, who both passed on him, drafted Mahomes they might have permanently fucked him up.  I can envision some dinosaur coach who gets hard watching highlight reels from the 80s trying to coach the creativity and unconventional passes out of Mahomes if he ended up on a bad team.  I really hope a franchise that isn't a fucking joke ends up with the #1 pick in 2024 so Caleb Williams is put in a good position to succeed.

Case & point - Matt Stafford didn't win shit in Detroit; now he is the leading MVP candidate and with a prime spot to get to his 2nd SuperBowl (no jinxing)

Big loss indeed. He's been the most consistently entertaining guy playing in the league for awhile now. I'm a Broncos fan, so fuck the Chiefs, but I can't hate on Mahomes the player. That dude has been involved in some crazy fun games over the years, and he came out ahead more often than not.

The lack of even a pedestrian/ average OL is what sealed the Chiefs' fate this season, and Patrick's.

You're right, he ain't Lamar.  Lamar can actually throw the ball deep.

I think ya'll are severely underestimating how much of the Mahomes magic over the past half decade is him picking up extra 1st downs by scrambling and him throwing some goofy shit that Kelce just finds a way to haul in.

Chargers have a much worse O-line and they won that game over KC and they're going to the playoffs.

The Chiefs have had glaring issues for a couple years that they’ve been unable to improve. Now Kermit has a fucked up knee, Kelce is close to done and Reid is only getting older and fatter. They definitely have some work to do to get back to contenders.

SD's is possibly the worst in the league.  No argument there.

The Chiefs thought they could lose Tunney and additionally  be Ok with the rookie LT.  Well, it worked until it didn't.  For multiple games they have started 3 guys who shouldn't be anywhere near a starting lineup.

I agree that the Chargers shouldn't have won, but KC's offensive line is straight ass, especially the past 4-5 weeks.

Pat and the Chiefs O hasn't ever been the same since Hill left.  They have tried to replicate it with many like Xavier but just can't.  Defense has been the only thing keeping them in contention.

He's actually a terrible fit for the Chiefs.  He's fast as fuck so you want to be hitting him deep consistently.  Except Mahomes has a terrible deep ball, for one.  For two, the Chiefs have absolutely zero running game.  What's the best way to hit plays deep?  Have a threat in the backfield and use play action.

And his oline can't block long enough for slow developing plays..

Has this always been the case? I don't remember seeing that mentioned really until this year. He used to have Tyreek Hill, but I guess a lot of his big TDs were crossers with YAC.

The OLine is bad. Drafting Clyde Edwards-Hellaire when they were targeting RB and Johnathon Taylor was just sitting there was a huge miss too.

when you make a career underthrowing the deep ball knowing you will get the DPI it isn't as noticeable.

All of here could've told KC that Worthy wasn't a first rounder. NFL always enamored with measurables.

This example is lost on today’s QBs who say they want to win but demand to “reset the QB market” even before their current contract expires. The Rams made it work in Stafford’s first year because Detroit ate the signing bonus and dead money on his contract. The Chiefs have regressed every season recently the deeper they get into Mahomes’s deal and the less money they have to spend on OL/DL. Ravens, Bills, and Bengals (Burrow injury noted) have the other big star QBs on second contracts and all are at risk of missing the playoffs.

the bills aren't really in danger of missing the playoffs.  i agree with the rest.

I appreciate trying to defend Worthy's lack of effectiveness, but the bolded is an insanely terrible take.  Mahomes led the league in deep pass touchdowns and deep pass efficiency, damn-near every year of his NFL career before the last two.  The lack of a running game and a shitty offensive line caused that recent reduction.  I agree that Worthy is a terrible fit for the Chiefs, and part of that is run scheme and o-line issues.  You can't hit deep balls when you have to get rid of the ball in under 2 seconds.   Worthy also has yet to develop a game beyond getting deep.  He is too small and weak to provide any of the crucial aspects of the position (like blocking) that would add value to a team struggling with the Chiefs' issues.  They would be smart to trade him for a more complete receiver if they don't think they can rebuild the o-line quickly, but Tyreek Hill damaged the brains of their front office. Worthy would add value to a team with a solid O-line and run game, where he can run deep every play to stretch the defense and catch a couple of passes per game.  That's all he's suitable for, but it's highly valuable on the right team.

Mahomes is a generational talent at the QB position, and anyone with eyeballs can see that.  I appreciate some of you downplaying him because of where he went to college and because he's so active in supporting them even after going pro (and perhaps some because they don't like the Chiefs), but c'mon.  Here's hoping he heals up quickly and thoroughly and goes on to put this kind of talk to rest for good.  As noted already in this thread, he would benefit mightily from the Brady method of taking a pay cut to fill out the roster around him.  But Brady needed that supporting cast more than Mahomes, as evidenced by Mahomes carrying a weak team on his back to the Super Bowl last year. Brady could never have done that.

The past couple of years he's been bad at it.  He doesn't have Prime Tyreek with 20 yards of separation and who can run under any deep shot he takes.  Yes, there are a lot of problems with the Chiefs offense.  Their O-line ain't great.  They have no running game to speak of.  Kelce ain't Kelce anymore.  Still, Mahomes is not good at throwing deep as of late.  Worthy's one legit skillset is running deep.  So whether you want to blame it all on the team instead of Mahomes or not, Worthy is just a bad fit there.

For what it's worth, of the Chiefs games I've watched this season, Worthy has been open plenty, he just doesn't get the ball.  Again, maybe that's on Mahomes, maybe it's on Reid's play-calling, the O-line not giving him time, whatever.  But Mahomes being dogshit down the field isn't just my dumbass opinion.  It's pretty well known at this point.

Eh, I feel the Chefs need to retool their OL and find a running game. Mahomie is quite decent from the pocket too.

The Chiefs Oline was terrible the year the Bucs beat them in the Super Bowl.  It’s not great this year.  That’s somewhat of a recurring theme.

As someone mentioned the Clyde Edward’s draft selection was awful.

As for Worthy, he got hurt game 1 this year so that set him back.  His contested catch rate is higher than Kelce and Rice.  His drop rate is lower than Kelce and Rice.  He’s 3rd in targets.

Dude had 12 TDs and over 1,000 yards when including the playoffs.

Hes not 100 catch, 1,500 yards, 15 TD kind of guy.  He has had a disappointing year, but the team result isn’t about him.  It’s a little unusual that they have duplicate parts in Brown, Thornton and Worthy.

I’d bet on Mahomes being able to operate from the pocket if it comes to that. I also thought they underutilized Worthy, seems they use him more as a decoy than anything else. IMO the issue with the Chiefs is that Reid’s offense has just gotten stale. He needs to do some reinventing as well.

Don't leave out Ju-Ju.  He's a got a little punk-ass in him with dirty hits/ blocks and then can disappear like Houdini for long stretches at a time.

How long does he stick around? 67 years old, morbidly obese. Kelce going to retire. It seems like a natural time to give it up.

But then his life choices up to this point make it pretty clear he doesn't care about anything but football.

I had X and Mahomes on my fantasy team so I’ve watched them a lot the last month. When every game is do or die, they almost never target Worthy. Never deep. Probably because the OL is all fucked due to injuries but it’s frustrating regardless. When they finally do throw his way, it’s a low percentage medium range pass to the outside where X won’t have any chance at YAC, but it doesn’t matter anyway because Mahomes makes an inaccurate throw that X has to lay out for to even get close to. Bad OL play and Kelce being your top playmaker means ugly offense

Chiefs had a massive drop-off this year. Their offense seems uninspired. Seemed to be going through the motions. No real playmakers. Terrible OL. Every close game they used to always pull out, they are now losing.

This season reminded me of Brady's last season in New England in 2019, where they lost to Tennessee in the wild card round. But Brady was 42 by then, Mahomes is only 30. When Brady was 30, he went 16-0. I can't recall any seasons from Brady this bad where NE completely missed the playoffs aside from 2008 when he got hurt week 1 and missed the entire year. NE has flamed out in the playoffs but not like this in his prime.
