It's a weird thing with right wing internet weirdos to just completely misstate and misrepresent the people they disagree with, always followed by knocking that straw man down and beating on their chest about it. I mean sure we see it here on Surly all the time, but it's just wild seeing one of the richest and most powerful men in the world doing it.

And then not even 24 hours after posting this outright misinformation and lies, he's doing test flights of the most powerful rocket ever built.

It's fucking crazy that elmo is so fucking crazy.

Same goes for Ackman

We have a problem in this country believing anyone that is rich is smart.

The usefulness of online discourse is almost gone. Only took, what, 25 years? Social media is crashing and burning at a much faster rate. I'd guess the majority of high volume users and engagers have some form of mental illness, which will just get worse the more they are online.  People's behavior online rarely transfers to real life, but what else do people have to go on at this point? We are encouraging people to work from home and generally staying inside and away from others most of the time. Genuine relationships are dying. I'm sure the people not addicted to the internet are much happier and healthier.

As a society, we're cooked. I'd love to hear how things better, because I haven't thought of it yet.

The Don Lemon firing definitely points out how thin skinned Elon is. He obviously saw Lemon as a potential to reach out to new audiences. Actually a good idea to pay well known, left commentators to produce shows for X.

Elon must have wanted to be the first interview but then fires Lemon hours after being interviewed. If you don't want a true independent interview that might have tough questions, don't agree to an interview.

This takes Elmo fanboyism to another level

“Re-live the glory of Elon Musk’s SpaceX launch of the Falcon Heavy. This collectors edition comic is Limited edition. This is the perfect gift for you and the Elon Musk / SpaceX / Tesla fan in your life.”

“As Starman heads to space, the fight for the future of earth between the futurists and big oil continues. In this 40 pages story Big oil will conspire with the automakers and the main stream media to try and stop Elon, Tesla and the clean energy crusade. There will be espionage, intrigue, and real life events that will leave you wondering, where does real life end and our story begin?”

First 35 minutes of Pivot - Galloway/Swisher - is an interview with Don Lemon. Good stuff. Some highlights:

  • There is a debate on what is owed Don Lemon, Elmo has made it out that there wasn't any special deal, but Lemon has pointed out that he had one AND if there wasn't a deal, why is Elmo saying "Contract Terminated" to his agent?
  • Add to that, Don pointed out that there wasn't a deal unless he went to CES to be a front man and face of deal - so Elmo was advertising hard on this
  • Elmo is his own walking Streisand effect. Like they point out, he does this interview and let's it go - is't not even news today. But in his 2-year-old-like reaction blows this out of proportion and keeps it alive for much much longer.

Listen to it if you want

Tesla is the worst performing stock in the S&P 500. Analysts say it has further to fall

Spoiler

Elon Musk’s Tesla once represented the future of automaking. Now the company’s own future is in question.

The once red-hot electric vehicle maker — heralded as part of the so-called Magnificent Seven behemoth tech stocks — is currently the worst performer in the S&P 500 this year, down nearly 32% since January.

The story of Tesla’s (TSLA) decline has been well documented. The company has been plagued by safety issues and recalls, slowing growth and has even been forced to slash prices. But a new report by Wells Fargo analyst Colin Langan on Wednesday offers a darker picture than previously imagined.

Tesla, he wrote, is a “growth company with no growth.”

Langan predicts that Tesla’s growth will remain flat this year and then decline in 2025 as competition increases, deliveries disappoint and the beleaguered auto and tech company is forced to cut prices again.

UBS also downgraded its forecast for Tesla on Wednesday. Analysts said concerns are mounting as demand for electric vehicles slows and as Chinese rivals take an ever greater share of the global market.

With the exception of Tesla, all of the Magnificent Seven companies (that also includes Apple, Amazon, Meta, Google, Nvidia and Microsoft) saw double- or triple-digit earnings growth in the final three months of 2023. Tesla reported a 40% decline in profit from the year before.

Tesla has been navigating through a perfect storm. The EV environment is getting more crowded right as the company’s fundamentals have come into question. Its share price has dropped about 60% from its 2021 all-time high of $407.

But even with the recent drop in price, Tesla’s stock is still very expensive when compared to its actual earnings and profits, said Langan. The company’s former propensity for rapid growth is no longer certain, he said, and shares likely have further to fall.

Wells Fargo has lowered its price target for the stock from $200 to $125, predicting another 25% decrease in value. UBS, meanwhile, has lowered its price target to a more moderate $165 from $225.

Well if censoring a whole shit load of people to protect a fucking nazi isn’t free speech absolution, I don’t know what is.

Elon is all in for two things: protecting nazis, and free speech.  Except, ummm, disregard that second thing.  Really, he's just all about all the nazi shit.

It wasn't that Musk didn't like the questions being asked in the interview. Musk had never met Don Lemon and was unfamiliar with Lemon until he sat for the interview.

This is what it looked like when the producer brought Lemon into the room to meet with Musk.

According to documents obtained by the New York Post, Lemon attempted to shake down the billionaire in contract talks for his new X show.

The report stated, "The ex-CNN anchor sent over an astronomical wish list to Elon Musk during contract talks to host a show on the billionaire's social media platform X – including a free Tesla Cybertruck, a $5 million upfront payment on top of an $8 million salary, an equity stake in the multibillion-dollar company, and the right to approve any changes in X policy as it relates to news content."

Lemon's agents at United Talent Agency sent X's leadership the contract proposal in December for review.

A source knowledgeable about the situation said Lemon also demanded a private jet flight to Las Vegas, a suite for him and his fiance. They also noted Lemon requested X cover day drinking tabs and fancy massages.

If anyone ever doubted Michael Dell's motivation in life then watching him suck off a Nazi-sympathizer whose platform is paving the way for a massive rise in racist, anti-semitic behavior should make it clear. How many more billions does Dell need, and how does he figure aligning himself and his company with Musk is going to help him obtain it?

I don’t see what’s in it for him. This can’t be just about taxes.

He's gone full red pill. All of the grievances of the world are caused by illegals, women, LGBT, etc. This is what the grievance industrial complex is all about these days. These people are absolute chodes, but the ills that befall them can't be their own fault, so they blame anyone or everyone else.

It's just mind blowing when it is one of the world's men. Granted, this seems to be striking a lot of the rich, white males of silicon valley.

That's what I don't get.  Rural poors and generally disaffected people, ok, maybe, but this guy has more money than he knows what to do with.  What grievances could he possibly have?

It’s not complicated. It’s ego and narcissism. The redpill incel Musk fanboi crowd wants to make him a god, wants to elevate him above all humans who have ever lived. And he desperately WANTS to be god: adored, unquestioned, with omnipotent power, able to do whatever he wants.
The only thing standing in the way of him being the god he dreams of being is…everyone to the “left” of his fanboi crowd. Thus, he hates those people. Because they stand against god (Elon).
There is never a need to over analyze Elon. What would a psychotic narcissist with a god complex do/feel? Then that’s what Elon will do/feel.

Imagine being one of the world's wealthiest people, capable of buying or doing virtually anything, yet somehow believing you're the victim and that life has been unfair to you.

I will note that this is much bigger than just Musk, it's a ton of these guys.

The only thing I can think is fear. A threat to the perceived world order that could potentially take away their riches and power. They only see this as a zero sum game - if someone else has success, someone else has to lose, and since they are at the top, it must be them.

Power, or more than likely the climb to the top, has deluded them. Along their climb to the top there were winners and losers. They see that winner/loser dynamic as still carrying over into the here now. They don't get that winners and losers of the climb/falls were just the markets sorting things out. They didn't win because others lost, they won because they were lucky enough to make the products that the people needed/wanted.

They take this view to be fighting for percentages of a pie, and its all about keeping your slice or making it bigger, taking away from someone else. They don't seem to get that with the pie growing, you can lose a small bit of marketshare and still grow what you bring in.

When you see the world like this, minority groups looking to gain something are a threat - and thus you have a grievance.

This is also 30+ years of partizan news making everything an us vs them debate. You poor people have a problem, THEY (insert your least favorite minority group here) caused it! Direct your anger at them. Divide people and make them fight each other and the real problems of the world (usually caused by those with the messaging) just keep getting worse. And people direct their grievances at the wrong targets.
