Jumping ship!

(Jk, I don’t know what this is about but if he’s a rising star, why not retain?)

Maybe Larson was confused about which Hurley he was going to work for.

Just bought tickets and booked a nearby apartment for the opening rounds in Milwaukee, where we got sent 3 years ago (last time they held it there). Wouldn't mind seeing us there as a 2 seed or so this year!

i’ve said this before, but there’s going to be a record number of, “now who is that again?” remarks happening in the moody center stands. this is essentially a full-on roster overhaul. i don’t expect to form many strong opinions on this team before the new year. conference play won’t be the grind that it was in the big xii but we’ll have plenty of tough opponents all the same. for this team, jelling at the right time is the name of the game. i just went to see progress throughout the season that sees us with a competitive team in february and march. this is a S16/EE roster. just got to find the right com nations of players and minutes.

If we finish top 4 in the SEC, I’ll be extremely pleased.

If we finish better than aggy, Tennessee and Marquette I'll be pleased.

Picked 7th in the SEC, but the 4th ranked team in the AP poll

Ready for the season!

Is media days today or am I watching a Finebaum rerun?

Yes today was media day

They interviewed Terry, Shedrick and Tre Johnson.

Not a lot said. Tre said that NIL was never that big of a concern for him because he expects to make the league and make his money there. Makes sense.

What I'm curious about - and I brought it up in another thread - if he grades out late 1st round I wonder if there's a deal that could bring him back to Texas. The difference between a top 10 rookie contract and a late 1st round is millions.

But obviously you're a year older, you risk injury, you risk not moving up etc. I will say it seems like NBA teams have shifted back towards drafting more developed players rather than taking flyers on teenage projects.

Everything else was coach speak and yes sir no ma'am player interview stuff. I'll see if I can find the clip.

Looks like RT is giving his press conference rn.

So no concern about Larson? Seems like a big deal to me.

Rothstein is pretty high on Ohio State, who we open the season with. Had Texas at #26. Should be a good test.

Ran into Coach Terry downtown today. He looks like he can still play. My fist bump means we make the elite 8 this season.

Let's work on that one.

Jeff Goodman also thinks we shouldn’t be ranked pre-season.

This year is going to be interesting.

it makes sense to me. even if we had barnes, beard, or sampson coaching this roster it would take them some real time to jell, and for the coach and players to figure out everyone’s role, who plays well together, who needs to be on the court at the same time, who needs to be on the court with 4 minutes to go, etc. RT still has a lot to prove, and this is his first team that’s basically all his. this a big year for him. if we finish middle of the conference and don’t look good in postseason play then his seat will definitely warm up.

I agree.

And I think being back in a league with A&M also plays a role on seat warmth, especially if they finish better than we do (same maybe for Mississippi)

Not health issues, sounds like he waited until the last minute so an assistant would get the job.  He really hates NIL apparently.

I’ve been enjoying watching other teams play charity games and scrimmages this month. I guess RT prefers the “closed” scrimmages like we always had during the Rick Barnes days. Well have to wait until November to see this team

Adapt or Die.

If it wasn't for the timing I would respect him noping out instead of slowly running his program in to the ground, but he fucked the players and school by waiting so long.  The school pretty much has to let his assistant take over and the players are gonna have no transfer options.

i have to assume that we play with a higher tempo than we’ve seen in quite a while, and with our depth i would love to see a team that just gets after it in transition and wants to play fast.

I don't know why there are some people that think we aren't a top 25 team. We are loaded at guard.

I guess it's just Rodney Terry that has people apprehensive.

I like this comparison and I also wonder if we play a lot like this team.

Miami started Omier who was only 6'7 at center. I think you may see a lot of that this year. Where we just go really small and play Kaluma at the 5.

I think he said we’d definitely see small lineups a lot this season

Thing is we actually aren't small.

We have length everywhere except the 5 which is what would allow us to go small at the 5. That's why the Miami comparison is actually a good one. Where Miami killed us was with all their length on the perimeter with Popular and Miller.

I think we have that similar type length this year between Kent, Tre Johnson, and Mark.

There was also Disu not being able to play, Carr getting hurt in the second half, and a heap of horrible officiating.

But, yes, other than that, Miami's lenf on the perimeter was a significant advantage.

Former NBA Coach of the Year Monty Williams will be a high school coach in San Antonio

Gerry's notes on the scrimmage

Texas Hoops: Scrimmage report after 80-52 win over TCU

The Texas Longhorns took on TCU in a closed door scrimmage Saturday in San Antonio. Texas won the scrimmage 80-52 against a TCU team that isn't considered quite as strong as the last 2-3 teams in Fort Worth. With that being said, OTF was told that Texas played very well in a lot of aspects.

OTF notes from the Texas-TCU scrimmage

Five players in double figures. Tre Johnson and Tramon Mark led Texas with 13 points apiece. Tre Johnson scored 13, and that included going 0-4 from three. Which won't happen very often. Johnson is expected to be a 38-40% three-point shooter this season.

Texas shot the ball well from the three-point line. That included Jayson Kent hitting three triples, and Kadin Shedrick hitting a pair of three-pointers. The staff likes where this team is at shooting the three. Texas has five players that could/should be 35% or better from three : Tre Johnson, Julian Larry, Jordan Pope, Tramon Mark and Jayson Kent.

Jayson Kent played really well. A "gamer" that really understands how to play at a high-level without the ball. Grabbed eight rebounds.

Texas team made a lot of quality reads without the ball - which is key to maximizing offensively.

Defensively, the feeling is that this team can be really high-level on the perimeter due to size and versatility, plus power forwards that can switch and play on the perimeter. Should/could be a strong team defensive squad.

Devon Pryor played double-digit minutes. Needs to keep working to find his role offensively.

Jaime Vinson played a few minutes at the end. He's really come in the last two weeks of practice.
