Texas Baseball 2025 - Your SEC regular season champions!!

Maybe I’m wrong but I’m not sure he has the arm and quickness for third.

He lags many times at SS and has to rush his throws.

He lags at short because he isn’t a good natural athlete and doesn’t attack the baseball very often. He lacks the range to play short at the next level but arm is not the problem.

He has a good glove and a very strong arm. He’s also tall and will add a lot more weight. He’s a mini Machado starter kit right now.

Craig and Keith are peak Texas baseball radio.

Blake Munroe mentioned an interesting stat on OTF this morning.

Casey Borba leads the entire SEC in pitches seen per plate appearance. .265/.410/.554 with 5 homers and 19 RBI's is pretty solid for a guy who wasn't a starter the first 3 weeks of the season. Also has an OPS over 1.000 in SEC play.

Now, if we can just get him to throw to first base without needing a cutoff man.

What? Tell me more.

Did the SEC Network get it together? Or is this going to be on the radio?

This should really be for Winfield, but low hanging fruit 👆

Anyone have Blake’s morning notes from OTF?

The No. 1 ranked Longhorns are gearing up to host a No. 7 ranked Auburn squad for another highly anticipated SEC series.

The Tigers come into tonight's matchup red hot, as they have won fived games in a row, with four of those being ranked opponents (then ranked No. 20 Georgia Tech last Tuesday, followed by a sweep of a Top 10 LSU squad over the weekend.)

Yesterday Texas Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle met with the media and dropped the news that second baseman Ethan Mendoza is considered day to day after sustaining a shoulder injury over the weekend versus Kentucky.

While Schlossnagle didn't get into many specifics, I'm told that Mendoza essentially "separated his shoulder" for lack of a better term.

Schloss did mention that Mendoza would most likely be available as a hitter before seeing action defensively.

As of this morning, the team remains hopeful that will be the case, but it will depend on how he feels before each game.

---

As for backing up Mendoza on the field, that is still up in the air.

"It probably will depend on who is pitching for Auburn," said a source.

The two most likely options are either freshman Adrian Rodriguez or junior Jayden Duplantier.

---

Many of you have asked if Rodriguez would eventually return to third base. I'm told that Casey Borba will remain there for the foreseeable future.

When it comes to the hot corner, the staff feels Borba has the edge defensively over A-Rod.

Couple that with the fact that Borba has been one of the Horns most productive hitters (Casey actually sees more pitches per plate appearance than any other player in the SEC) and you can see why that plan shouldn't change.

---

Things continue to look good for an eventual Max Belyeu return. While no definite timetable has been given, he's progressing well when it comes to his recovery. I've used the term cautiously optimistic a ton and that's how the staff still feels.

---

I'll close with a recruiting note.

Texas seems to be done recruiting the high school ranks for awhile. Their '26 class is pretty full (maybe too full) and they're obviously in no hurry to add anymore pieces to the puzzle from that aspect.

However, I am told that they will be extremely active in the portal, which opens Monday, June 2. I fully expect the Horns to be very aggressive on that front.

Thanks

JFC Mendoza is out now? Aggy must've sacrificed one of their sheep harems in a secret bonfire or something.

I'm not particularly optimistic about this series, given Auburn's recent hot streak and our injury situation.  A 2-1 series win for the good guys would be a relief.

3-0 sweep or we riot

I think we'll be ok as long Tim Hudson, Casey Mize and Frank Thomas are out of eligibility.

What about Bo?

Please no Duplantier. If I have to see him ineffectively flailing at pitches or watching strike 1 go by then trying to bunt on second pitch again I may go crazy.

We can have Jerry Gray pitch.

First horn game ever in college and saw him run bo down. Electric.

Agree, but do we want to mess with something that's working?

That is very carefully worded by Schloss.

He can’t even envision how good he’s going to look pitching next weekend

He was asked if Jared had had an MRI and if they had the results.  His response was that Jared has had a bunch of tests and they are going to get other opinions on what's going on with him.  There were no specifics but it doesn't sound great.

Who will start the games against aggy? Do we know at this point?

Huge shout out to @BillyGoatHill for transferring his tickets for today's game to my wife. I was already taking my 4.5-year-old son, but my wife also got to take our 2.5-year-old son. It was both of their first games in person (however, we do watch most of them on TV).

They got to experience one hell of an offensive showing, including the ultra exciting three-run walk-off HR, saw Jonah Williams continue to ball out, ate a ton of ballpark food they normally don't get to eat, ran the bases after the game was over, and even got to see Surly cult hero DDA in the flesh!

I am an ever-increasingly sentimental person since becoming a father. I grew up going to the Disch often with my dad. The memories and pictures from today will last many lifetimes in my family. I cannot thank you enough, good sir.

Why is the Arkansas series Thur-Sat?

According to the Al Gore's internet - Television schedules. "The league allows schools to move some series to start on Thursday to accommodate national broadcasts, as The Advocate noted. ESPNU began airing a Thursday night SEC game in 2011, and this practice became more common as the league gave schools more flexibility."

Our team ERA is now 2.94 . . . crikey.

Is that a good crikey or a bad crikey? I need to know how to react.

Good for #2 in the country, behind Western Kentucky and their #186 RPI.

if all this is true, i think either Grubbs becomes a starter and use someone like Burns for his previous role, or you go with someone like Bing with a short leash to Grubbs. my preference would be start Grubbs.
