Really appreciate their emphasis on Sci-Fi shows

And not just run-of-the-mill stuff specifically created for TV/movies but going back to well-liked books.

We watched both last night and some of the scenes are very lol.  It’s so clever and funny.  Putting Murderbot with a group of cheapskate hippie fuckhappy explorers is brilliant.

Never heard of this before stumbling across this thread yesterday. Watched the first two last night. It was OK. Hoping it will pick up steam.

The visual style of the cinematography is a bit odd. Can't quite put my finger on what it is but I don't love it. Was fun seeing one of the aunts from Reservoir Dogs as one of the hippies.

I watched the first episode last night.  Was a little underwhelmed as I've been looking forward to this.  Hopefully it picks up some steam.  Everything seems a little forced at this point.

Agreed. The very opening scene where he "hacks" himself seemed a bit forced/rushed/too simple.

I'm pretty much hoping that everybody but Murder Bot gets killed.

Just need SOMETHING to happen other than big bug, and to explain the plot.  Right now it’s no better than Sanctuary Moon.

I already posted it in the Apple thread but I'm loving it, but my expectations weren't high.

I'm repeating myself, but its a sci-fi sitcom based on a self aware robot that's on spectrum. It takes shots at both liberal and conservative tropes. It has really good dialog, great internal monolog, and is just silly. I enjoy the hell out of it for what it is.. so.

I did chuckle when the guy from the other group called Murderbot out on the Sanctuary Moon references.

I wanted to like this show, ejected after 6 episodes. The plot plodded too long, the characters weren’t like-able. Interesting concept, poorly executed.

Felt the same way. Bolted after 5.

Loved the series. Ending closed really strong with a cool "message". Really happy there is a season 2. Look forward to more Murderbot shenanigans.

I liked this series. It somehow hit the nerd-core, mindless stupidity,  subversively silly, and low-key dark aspects of my humor simultaneously. That's a rare feat.

Plus, it's got a bit of heart.

This is a really good summary. I'd add that I really appreciate when "sit-com" is take no prisoners on what silly ideas or tropes they will mock particularly when they are even handed about it. A reason I love South Park.

I think, for some, it will watch better as a binge

But I do laugh when I see people get "mad" that they're waiting weekly for a 20-22 minute episode.

Like.... same as pre-streaming, with commercials? Back when we watched new episodes each week of The Office or 30 Rock?

I'm on episode 5.  I'm enjoying it, but I get what some of you said about not caring about any of the characters.  It's basically just easy entertainment while I'm on the exercise bike.

Well, that and I think some miss that its a sit-com. As in situational comedy, episodic in nature. Yes, sitcoms have a plot, but its season long and while a driver for the season not the core focus of a sitcom. Community and Parks and Recreation, for example,  always had a season long theme/plot,  but was episodic in it's weekly content. Exposition, climax, resolution while moving the season plot along some, but not always in 20 minutes. For example, the season 5 plot of Community was "Save Greendale" but not every episode had to move that plot forward.

Yeah, I find it frustrating to wait now (spoiled) but at the same time, when I do binge, either because they release a season all at once or I just wait to watch it, I miss the banter with friends the following week (and online) about the latest episode like I used to have with Lost, Battlestar Galactica, etc.

Added Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, “Chris, Paul, Alexander and the entire Murderbot team have delivered a brilliantly original, addictive, witty and vibrant adaptation that has captured the imagination of audiences everywhere. We can’t wait to unveil what’s next for Murderbot and, of course, Sanctuary Moon in season two.”
