This sounds like a joke, but it's coming from you, so I assume it's serious?

Because if Codaxx is making jokes then we have truly entered unchartered waters and CTJ's thread title feels eerily appropriate.

Aggy added another OL portal pickup. LSU OT Tyree Adams.

That's LSU's starting LT, LSU' starting LG, and South Carolina's starting RG they've picked up in the past few days.

A&M will have to corch 'em up because they were all pretty bad last year.

If even Satya doesn’t think we missed out on good OL here, then it must be true, and he has brightened my day.

we're "done" in the portal for OL by Friday and we have only one visitor we are waiting on? I hope the source is someone that's trolling and not in the AD's office but sadly I think it's the latter.

If you have a matching offer at a major P2 program, why would you play guard or center for Kyle Flood? Is there any doubt the consistent underperformance on our interior since Sark has been here is being highlighted by those recruiting against us? I guess we will see how things shake out but it seems we are likely forced to overpay for these interior guys. The question is, are we even able to with what the rest of the line is getting paid? Priority #1 is Goosby. Surely he has to be the highest paid player in that room. Sark made a complete mess on the OL and instead of going all the way to fixing it by firing his loyalist Flood, he has chosen to fix it solely in the portal. Seems like a bad spot to me.

We had one year of ‘under performance’ it just happened to be this season. Texas just had 3 OL drafted and 4 of their 5 starting OL on NFL rosters. That’s what kids are going to see.

Also mentioned Brunner visiting this week again.

There better be a lot of surprises in the next couple days or we are running out 10 OL (if we add two by Friday) on the roster next year with two being freshman?

I disagree. IOL has been a problem for a while.

More info from Bobby on Brunner:

Bobby believes Brunner has a visit scheduled and he believes Texas has a bigger NIL offer for him than Indiana - but as saty pointed out earlier, Brunner old position coach is now at Indiana.

I'd take that with a very large grain of salt, unless there are several about to enter nobody knows about.

This is just to make sure Indiana doesn't try to get a discount on their offer because of position coach relationship. good work by whoever the agent is.

I think we are not very good at tampering, which isn't surprising....

Bobby thinking we could be done with OL by Friday is quite the shift from his outlook yesterday if Texas didn’t land the 2 Michigan guys. Maybe he just means that Texas won’t have any new OL to worry about by Friday and we’ll just head into the season butt ass naked on the OL?

I would be shocked. They need to take at least five OL now.

OTF still seems to think the number is 2+Robertson which would be insanity imo. Need at least 1-2 quality backups.

Interesting. I guess he's fairly big and had good numbers but I haven't watched him enough to opine. Supposedly some Michigan mods have been hinting that Haynes may go portaling if he stays in school. That might just be speculation though.

Marshall is legit. More of a between the tackles runner. Haynes is the big play guy. Once Marshall left injured Michigan offense died a painful death vs Ohio State. He was around 3.6 yards after contact this year. That was a great combo of a power RB and speed RB. Sounds like Marshall is staying at Michigan. Haynes is looking for an NFL team to make a guarantee if he goes into the draft. Not sure that happens. Official injury is listed as a foot injury, but there is speculation that achilles was involved.

I would bone Michael Dell's wife on camera if it got us 5 solid OL by Friday.

Maybe they are thinking Ole Miss loses tomorrow and Kutas hits the portal?

I wish Flood wasn't a size queen. Otherwise Trent Fraley, C, North Dakota St.

Emmanuel Poku, OG, East Carolina University, actually meets Flood's requirements and has close to a ton of snaps at RG.

Well, call up Colt McCoy and you guys get your ass over there to her instead of posting on this board.

It seems like we might be the team that players like to visit and show interest in to pocket a good offer. Then they go around asking if it can be topped at other schools.

2 minutes ago, Elmer_Fudd said:

He did mention that there are four teams still playing, and I'd have to think that Ole Miss would be ripe for poaching with the situation there still in flux.

I agree, but 2 guard draft picks in 2 years (Conner + Campbell) is good enough to sell. Hell, Flood might as well say Hutson will be drafted too and Majors is on the Eagles practice squad. There’s only so much negative recruiting you can do against that.

These players didn’t spend the last three months watching Stroh getting pantsed and questioning Flood’s coaching + watching the IOL at other schools so they can have an informed opinion about all the P2 OL coaches.

Or at their current school.

Coaches do it all the time.

If I were an agent the first schools I would contact about my player would be us, a&m, and tech. Then go from there.

I dunno. They re-signed Lacy and Chambliss is going to try to come back. I could see their boosters feeling scorned right now and being willing to really throw down.

Absolutely. Or any other school with BMDs. Leverage, baby.

Bobby/Gerry mentioned yesterday that generally Texas isn’t looking for Portal guys from lower levels because they want guys ready to step in and play right away (why they also avoid players who have been injured). Trey Moore was an exception but a good example of a player that took more than half a season to adjust to the new level of competition.

I get that Texas is prioritizing recruiting starters. I thought when the SEC expanded football rosters recently that each SEC school would pick up 5-10ish players in the portal that I would say aren't the starter types but could provide some additional roster depth in the short term or be a longer-term project type player that they hope they could develop. I know that their is a risk as these players are typically in the portal because they usually unhappy with playing time/their development. I know we also took some additional 3* types in high school recruiting this year that look to develop and not start immediately.

Nearly the entire offensive coaching staff is leaving and it's not like we're dealing with an Ohio State here. That roster is going to be ripped apart once Ole Miss is done, IMHO.

This (a) is pretty optimistic on TE and takes for granted a huge leap from Townsend and (b) assumes we do in fact address OL. I'm skeptical that we get an upgrade on DJ Campbell. Robertson seems to be the plan at center and I think he is who he is at this point. Probably true that basically anyone we take will be an improvement at LG but that's not a given with an OL coach that thought Connor Stroh was our best option in the Horseshoe. By the end of the year, Hutson was playing at a slightly below average level (an enormous improvement on early-season LG play).

We currently have nine scholarship linemen including Robertson. Typically we are carrying 13-15 scholarship linemen. That means we need to retain Robertson plus land both guys we have an offer to plus sign two more players to get to 13.

Maybe in the portal era you can argue it’s more like a pro system and you carry less players at the position but 11 seems like a very low number for a pipeline of player development.

I liked Endries, but pretty much half his season production came in 2 games (San Jose State and A&M). In-between those games he went:

1 catch/4 yards

2 catches/2 yards

2 catches/4 yards

1 catch/ -1 yards

4 catches/25 yards

3 catches/24 yards

3 catches/9 yards

2 catches/49 yards

And he was never a great blocker.

I don't think you have to squint too hard to envision Townsend being able to step into his role and provide at least the same level of production.
