Not strictly transfer related, but significant roster news

Coleman is going to get drafted in the first round whether he stays at Auburn, goes to Texas, Bama, aggy. He would instantly be our best WR, even if he drops a few balls. I hope to hell we sign him. The handwringing about passing him and using the funds to get other WRs is a stupid fucking take. You don’t get a trophy for best value and best contracts. Ohio State didn’t bargain shop when they went to go get Caleb Downs and Judkins. Next year is championship or bust. We’re going to lose Arch, Simmons, Goosby, Wingo, McDonald, and a lot more talent next year. It will be rebuilding more for a year or two after. All or nothing. Go get Coleman, Brown, Baugh/Lacy, and anyone else that we can. Stack this roster bc we have a loaded schedule and will need the depth and NFL talent to make a serious run.

Yeah but CTJ doesn’t like him and has not like him even when in HS

If we're going all in next year, why the FUCK are we settling for that kicker? That dude has horrifically mediocre career kicking percentages. We should recruit who we want TO the portal, not settle for what's already there.

Coleman's 2025 highlight tape is mainly him making great plays on underthrown balls from Arnold. I remember plays like the double move against Oklahoma where he was wide open for a TD but Arnold missed him.

Add in that it was an elementary offense with 3 different guys calling plays, and it seems pretty fair to assume his production would sky rocket with a better passer and play caller.

No one on this site wishes for Texas to not land Coleman if he’s a key target. If Sarkisian has all of the access to capital that landing him implies, awesome. If he’s being signed and then we hear the poormouthing about other key targets heading elsewhere, that’s less than optimal.

Given history, I still fully expect to be disappointed at a key position like LB and/or S even with a ridiculous portal haul at WR, RB, and OL.

We'll see.

4000 of 11500 players currently in portal

The Randy Moss when he dogged it for the Oakland Raiders until he got his wish to be traded, or the Randy Moss who played for the New England Patriots?

it's like you need a full time staff to evaluate every player in CFB to be ready for a three week blitz during the portal period (in time for spring enrollment). calendar is so fucked up.

And if you are one of four teams still playing, you not only have to do that but then the rest of cfb gets to cherry pick your roster as best they are able later on.

I pointed out that the guy will frustrate people for the same reasons that Wingo does. I did it in a semi-cartoonish manner and now people have started to develop Surly facts that maybe he sucks and we shouldn’t want him.

If the guy signs with Texas, with Jaggy McJaggerson leaving, he’s going to become my absurdist whipping boy for 2026. He’ll have to hold onto the pen long enough to sign the contract, so there’s still plenty of risk on this one not getting done.

I totally get that and agree. If you can get two players which are just as good as some of the targets for the same price I’m all for it.

Cause let’s be honest we’re going off of what we think Coleman or Brown can be. We really don’t know.

Only player I feel confident in that has shown to be “a guy” is the safety from Minnesota , dude is a ball hawk and athlete and from what I’ve seen we need a safety in the worse way.

But I know he’s gonna command some money

Damn that sucks. I was excited about that one. OTF saying he was #4 on Texas' board though, I think including some who haven't announced yet

Probably safe to assume Utah players are heading to Michigan, North Texas players to Oklahoma State, Iowa State players to Penn State, etc

Based on the fact it seems to be done the morning the Portal opens, I think he is the one we want.

I'm busy today so I'm dipping in and out, but how did that guy end up a Groza semifinalist if his numbers weren't great?

Sorry, fans will only accept Brandon Aubrey or they suck balls

Money is finite. Of course Coleman is an upgrade but the trade-off isn't only between WRs. Would you rather have Coleman and 3 scrub iOLs or get a productive WR like Jayce Brown and 3 All-Conference iOLs? Obviously that's a hypothetical but it's how everyone needs to think about these things.

If the money is there for all of the above, then yeah go get him. If not, tough choices need to be made and it's not a lot more nuanced than some of you are saying.

A WR trio of Coleman/Wingo/Mosely wouldn't suck. Wingo should be in the slot, similar to LJH. Get him the ball in space. He's never been a downfield threat, despite his size.

A guy who had zero history kicking before earning an NFL job..

Nah Moseley would be elite in the slot because he understands zones and where to sit. Wingo doesn't at all.

So what you’re saying is he has college eligibility? Crime if we don’t at least bring him in for a visit, IMO

I mean sheesh, that Ole Miss kicker looked like Brandon Aubrey last night. Not even joking.

I love that the guy has leg, but isn’t 11/15 inside the 50 kind of meh?

He was 4-5 at 50 plus this year. 4 of his 5 misses were at 40 +.

It's not finite. We're Texas.

Can someone post the NIL Donation link? I don't have it b/c I am a poor.

I know, I posted about it earlier. He seems like Bert Auburn but with distance.

Why are you assuming we can’t get a stud WR like Coleman and 3 great iOL? Interior guards are not going to cost you a mil. We already have premium positions like QB, LT (assuming Goosby is coming back), Edge locked up. Guys leaving like Hill, Baxter, Moore, Manny are going to free up a lot of capital. Bobby has repeatedly said that the staff is looking to win a championship next season and that if we land a guy like Coleman to not assume we won’t be looking to get other high caliber players. I don’t think they’ve invested this much in building the core pieces in Arch, Simmons, Goosby to now penny pinch. Sounds like we are going push all our chips in the pile for next year. If that means Sark and Cooper Manning need to make a few calls to stroke the egos of a few donors to get another few mil to get these guys to build around Arch and Simmons, then that is not an unrealistic reality. We are maybe the best situated between donors and corporate NIL to fundraise with a Manning at QB.

From what Bobby is saying, I don’t think you should just pencil in Mosley at WR3. They are talking as if we are going for 2 WRs in the portal to start to pair with Wingo.

Of course he played well for the vikes.

I intentionally didn't mention the vikes because they weren't needed for my point. All I needed to contrast his desire to play hard were the 2 stops after the vikes-- the Raiders and the Patriots.

I'm at the Rice / Texas State bowl game. If we need a punter the Rice punter has a huge leg. He just booted it 60+ yards and put is out at the 10. Someone with a burnt orange shirt was on the sidelines taking pictures of him.

One of these is Bert Auburn, the other is the Memphis kicker. Why on earth would you settle for this, when there are kickers like the Ole Miss kicker out there? Pick who you want and recruit them to the portal. Most teams won't budget for a place kicker. It likely won't even be that expensive.

Edit, adding the Ole Miss Kicker, who has eligibility left.

Throwing a big bag at Lagway seems very Aggie. Raiola would also be pretty funny, he can start cosplaying as Manziel instead of Mahomes.

I never said I assumed shit. You and I have no idea what the numbers are like. All I'm saying is that unless you're willing to pay for Coleman yourself, the analysis is a lot more nuanced than "go get him at all costs"

Please let Reed go and replace him with Lagway.

Please, please, please.

Well they do need a QB who can actually beat us

8 minutes ago, Laxtonto said:

Jesus, that was quick. So much for showing his white board skills to Babers on OTF as a HS senior.

Honest question, those of you who still follow HS recruiting... why?

I can't see Aggie dropping Reed even if he is holding them financially hostage. They just came off their greatest season ever. Dumping Reed for Lagway or any other QB just seems insane. No chance that this could just be Aggie signing a back-up QB type behind Reed?
