Not one of those guys would take a job that reports to a guy like Nagy, but the bigger overall issue is that a coach needs money to win big and OU just doesn't have it. There is no cavalry coming.

Seriously....

Sark is set up at Texas, he wouldn't even pick up the fucking phone
Day just won a title, so the natives can forgive the Michigan losses, and if Day think the Buckeye fans are restless after losing to Michigan, OU fans would burn his house down for losing 4 in a row to Texas
Freeman ain't leaving ND, he has the largest alumni base, a TV network that caters to them and money galore
DeBoer is at the modern-day bluebloodest school in the country

Kiffin is the only one I could see entertaining it, but he needs money to portal hunt.  OU ain't got that.

Against p4 teams, wazzu scored 24 against Washington (mid to poor team), 24 against Boise st (good team), and then 35 in a bowl game against Syracuse (no idea who played for either side).  It’s interesting that they aren’t able to acknowledge even the possibility that the new OC/qb combo might struggle with the increase in defensive talent faced.  Their arguments are over whether they will be just real good, or great.

Mateer didn't play in the bowl game, he had already committed to blowu. 35 for the backup QB against Syracuse could mean a couple of things.

The irony of OU being unable to afford paying their players in the NIL era is just so, so delicious.

This tasty, tasty morsel of irony is getting overlooked way too frequently.

OU scrimmage update spoilered below.

Highlights:

-A bunch of guys sat out due to injury, including multiple starters on both sides of the ball.

-Much to the chagrin of the OU homer mods and their posters, the offense sucked and Mateer didn’t look great.

-Shockingly, one of the FCS guys they’re counting on at WR has hand issues. Couldn’t catch a cold according to not just this report but some guys who attended from their board.

-We’ve finally reached the inevitable moment where Kanak is now the starting TE. They’re going to spin it as a good thing because he’s allegedly “uber athletic” even if we’ve never seen that from him. The reality is that they have an abomination of a TE room and they’re going to be longing for Bauer Sharp.

-The OL is still poo.

    It's about that time.

With three weeks until Oklahoma's season opener, the Sooners had the first of three scrimmages of fall camp on Saturday in Norman. The first real opportunity for the new-look OU offense to take the field in a game-like setting against Brent Venables and the Oklahoma defense.

No need to delay any further, let's get right into it:

    • First obvious question everyone will want to know: which side of the ball won the day? The answer to that is probably not overly surprising - the Oklahoma defense definitely was the better side of the football on Saturday. Offensively, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Ben Arbuckle's unit got off to a strong start, but the defense settled in and ended up taking control. I was told by a team source that the "plays were there to be made" but that penalties and drops were a consistent issue on Saturday. The offense left the stadium feeling encouraged but overall disappointed. However, there is context to all of this:
    • It's important to note here that the offense wasn't exactly put in an overly advantageous situation. For starters, a number of key skill players were held out on Saturday for precautionary reasons. That includes star running back Jaydn Ott and wide receiver Deion Burks. On top of that, the Sooners really shuffled around their offensive line - which certainly makes things a lot of tougher, as well. All in all, the OU offense wasn't exactly operating at full strength today, for what it's worth.
    • With Jaydn Ott out, Jovantae Barnes got the start at running back and had a really strong day. He looks clearly in position as the No. 2 back behind Ott right now.
    • John Mateer had a really good day. He overthrew a deep ball to Isaiah Sategna and short hopped another throw on a rollout to his left, but otherwise was very sharp on Saturday. One of the highlights of the day was Mateer connecting with Sategna on a deep ball. Sounds like overall, Mateer had a nice first scrimmage.
    • Jer'Michael Carter got a lot of burn. It seems like OU is trying to figure out what exactly they have here. Carter made some big plays, but probably had the two most egregious drops of the day, also. Carter's potential is apparent but sounds like he's having a hard time being consistent day in and day out.
    • It was a good day for Jaren Kanak. Kanak ran with the 1's at tight end and continued to make plays, as he has throughout camp so far. It seems like, at this point, Kanak is clearly the best tight end option in the passing game. However, it's not clear he can handle the blocking duties of the position. In any event, it sure sounds like Kanak is going to have a role on this offense.
    • Overall, not a ton to report on the defensive side other than it was just a solid all-around day. The defensive line, in particular, is continuing to look like the strength that everyone thought it would be coming into the season.
    • A lot of run for Reggie Powers on Saturday. Hard to imagine he won't have a role this fall as he continues to have a fantastic fall camp.

The after dinner aperitif is reading their boards, with ardent fans complaining about players deciding based on the biggest offer, and how that is ruining the sport…

Mateer better than arch 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Mateer would be third string here.  Meteer is just above Marcel Reed.  They have less awareness than aggy

You guys better be right about this shit lol my heart can't take another 2023

Well, since we use headsets to call in plays now I'm thinking a 2023 is less likely.

-Right now, OU has 3 OTs in concussion protocol, including both starters. Venables has the entire team basically going full speed at each other all practice, every practice.

-Eli Bowen is unlikely to start the season on the depth chart.

-At least 4 WRs are not currently able to practice.

-OU posters are now full on positing that they may, in fact, have the best defense in the entire country.

worst part in all of this.. is that they are feeding themselves into a frenzy thinking all of our OL are banged up and Arch not having the best scrimmage.. it's like they need us to be a skeleton crew come October so then they can play us and proclaim that we were overrated or something..

truly grasping at straws right now.

Much tougher market when everyone is open to bid.

Yes, because the only way all those players are hurt is due to the quality of the defense.

The logic is undeniable.

What doesn’t kill them makes them stronger.  I endorse BV’s strategy.

I think it's a great strategy, as long as it's every team not named the Texas Longhorns doing it.
