Yup. No one is giving us a chance. We've been doubted and underdogs in most games this year. We just secured our beloved coach. Our team is much healthier this time around. This team wants this rematch. Tech is a very good team and I think they will do some damage in the CFP, but don't be too surprised if BYU pulls the upset Saturday.

yup, you have the opportunity to prove you are a legit massive side (soccer term....)

inre: the 'first 11-win team not in top 10 in 90 years' hoax:

the regular season was 10 games until 1978

the regular season was 11 games until 2006

the fbs went from 11 to 12 regular season games in '06

but wait, there's more

let's review the history of your conference affiliations:

Rocky Mountain Faculty Athletic Conference (1922–1937)
Mountain States Athletic Conference/Skyline Conference (1938–1961)
Western Athletic Conference (1962–1998)
Mountain West Conference (1999–2010)
FBS Independent (2011–2022)

your football pr department may want to take a deeper dive on your metric to confirm no undefeated or 1-loss teams from non p4/p5 conferences in division 1 were not in the top 10 "final ranking" from 1978 to 2006

you are making it difficult for neutrals to support your opportunity to lead the charge for chaos on saturday

kirby with an unlikely but still possible rape of bama could knock out the thieves

I'm pissed but I feel for Miami fans.  Given the head to head with Notre Dame and being left out with the same record is beyond stupid.  What is the fucking point of even playing the games if you won't account head to head.  Same reason I think it's laughable that we are behind ou, aggy and Vandy in some polls.  All 3 of those teams likely have 4 losses if they played our schedule.  We were in control of all 3 games yet we are ranked behind for losing to the #1 and #3 team in the country.  If teams were to play on a neutral site amongst the top 12, Texas would be favored in against all the teams outside of 4-5 teams.    Miami should 100% be in front of Notre Dame.  At the end of the day, they beat them and that supersedes any other stupid metric or eye test when records are equal.

Lol Just a "Texas" Division.

Would never go for it, but 8 auto bids, and then 4 at larges to keep it at 12...or maybe you go to 16 and have 8 at larges.  Couldn't NO ONE bitch about being left out. If you win your conference you're in...then they just need to use actual metrics and not opinions to get the next 4-8

Do they still have 2010 on the wall as a "conference championship" when it was a three way tie for the south division with OU and OKST and OU won the tiebreaker and played Neby for the actual conference championship? That one was by far the worst.

The East Coast conference has a lot of suckage going on.  It wouldn't be long before people complained that they had a seat at the playoff table.

But I am all-in on this concept.

Clemson being good the past decade is the only reason the ACC is considered a power conference.  It's why all their brands want out.

There’s not a lot of hard evidence that the OSU loss is really hurting Texas here

One thing I didn't understand was Texas dropping from a preseason #1 to #7 on the basis of a first game single score loss against #3 and the defending national champions on the road.

Aggy drops 3 spots from getting their ass kicked.

I get that these were different ranking "systems" used, which is idiotic in and of itself, but that's another topic.

Usually two top ranked teams playing in a close game just flip spots.

I suppose it's the adage of better to lose late in the year, not early.

Yet, Texas dropped a spot for beating UTEP. Fine, they didn't play well. But then Texas dropped another two spots after beating Sam Houston 55 to 0. Meanwhile Aggy rose two spots for beating Utah State 44-22.

To me much of the season was judged by both fans and media as not playing as "dominantly" as expected.

"Y'all were supposed to roll, because we said so, and now you're not, so face the consequences of our skewed expectations."

That’s going to be pretty common going forward. With mega conference scheduling there just won’t be as many losses in conference. I mean, SEC ended the year with four one loss teams. Add in that 2 loss BIG/SEC now = 1 loss XII/ACC it’s just how it’s gonna be.

Also and probably more important, the “11 win” metric is dumb. For decades teams played 10 games or less. Until pretty recently 11 games were the norm so yeah an 11 win team would mean undefeated and surely top 10.

You make some fair points, Stache.

West Coast / Rocky Mtns / Plains / East Coast generally won't have nationally competitive champions. (Oregon being the possible exception)

I think we may end up in world with eight conferences but I hope it would be split a bit more evenly.

I would actually prefer five conferences with 16 teams.  Let those conferences have divisons or pod that lead to a conference championship.  The 5 Champions get auto bids and then there are either 7 or 9 at-large bids. The at-large bids are not promised for anything (conference runner-up, etc.) to prevent a mediocre conference runner-up (Duke) taking a spot. I would just force rank everyone and take the highest rated non-champs to complete the field.  ND will either be in a conference or not be considered for the playoffs.

(Ben Axelrod) Robert Griffin III on BYU College Football Playoff ranking: ‘Stop persecuting Christians’

Quote

If the College Football Playoff were to start today, BYU would be included in the 12-team field. But with the possibility that the Cougars could be on the outside looking in following this weekend’s conference championship games, Robert Griffin III is already getting ahead of a potential snub.

On the latest episode of his Outta Pocket with RGIII podcast, the Fox Sports analyst was asked whether he believes BYU should still be included in the College Football Playoff if it loses to Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship Game. In answering, Griffin made it clear he thinks the Cougars should be a lock, pointing to their 11-1 regular-season record while playing in a major conference.

“Any team in the Power Four that makes it to their conference championship game with one loss should be in the College Football Playoff, period. Regardless of the result,” the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner said. “So when I see right now that BYU has been ranked at No. 11 in the AP poll, and they’ve been sitting there at No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings for weeks now, despite the fact that they have less losses than teams that are in front of them, Alabama being one of them… if Alabama loses in the SEC Championship Game, they’d have three losses. They shouldn’t be in the College Football Playoff.

“BYU has the coach, has the quarterback, has the fanbase, has the ability to win on offense and shut you down on defense. They are a team that is worthy of being in the College Football Playoff.”

Griffin proceeded to offer a rundown of the Cougars’ resume, measuring it favorably against No. 7 Texas A&M. According to the 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, BYU should currently be ranked no lower than No. 6, a spot that would presumably secure them a spot in the College Football Playoff regardless of this weekend’s result.

But while Griffin made a compelling football-based case for the Cougars’ playoff spot to be safe, his argument then took a sudden turn. “Stop the persecution of the Christians, man,” he said. “Come on.”

Griffin, of course, is referring to BYU’s status as a private university sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with nearly 99 percent of the school’s population being members of the church. It’s unclear whether the 35-year-old actually believes that the College Football Playoff is persecuting the Cougars for their religious beliefs or if this was just a line aimed at attracting attention to his social media clip.

If it was the former, Griffin’s argument hardly holds up, as the football team that currently appears to be receiving the most favorable draw from the College Football Playoff selection committee is No. 10 Notre Dame. As for the latter, this would hardly be the first time that he’s resorted to engagement bait on social media.

I really think the committee has killed out of conference games between contenders going forward.  Everyone saying the UF loss is why we're out...no the three losses is why we're out and one of the three games was optional.

the brethren belief system origin story: they are descended from the "House of Israel" and native americans (lamanites) descended from the same migration from the middle east by boat to central america

the brethren believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Redeemer, and the Savior of the world, and that Jesus visited their people in Central America during the Resurrection

however, they have a distinct belief that God the Father and Jesus Christ are two separate and distinct beings, rather than part of a single Trinity

they share this belief with jehovah's witnesses

eastern and western catholocism, and all protestant faiths, believe in the single trinity

this is why the brethren refer to non-brethren as Gentiles, the same way the jewish people have used the word for 5000 years

It's easy to argue Miami over ND when you ignore Miami losing at home to a shitty fucking Louisville team that lost to Cal, Clemson and Virginia at home and got fucking boatraced by SMU in Dallas. Also ignoring that they couldn't even make the damn CCG for the 2nd season in a row because they always find a way to trip over their own dicks.

I'm not even sure the SMU loss was a good loss.

I wouldn't give a shit if the committee left out ND, too, but if you're putting one of those teams in it should be the Domers imo. Especially because they're a year removed from making the NCG. I don't see them getting blown out or not showing up for a playoff game. Meanwhile it's basically a coin-flip whether Carson Beck throws multiple interceptions against anyone with a pulse.

I've always been on the get a decent P4 train.  no real upside to scheduling a 50/50 or 40/60 type OOC.

it is funny though, back in the SWC days we always had OU as a big OOC but and we'd have a PSU or Auburn or someone like that every once in a while as well.

the main goal was to win the SWC and win the cotton bowl.  if the chips fell right maybe you win the MNC but if you didn't win your conf and associated bowl game you weren't going to win the NC.  Even in the 2 and 4 BCS/playoff format it was harder if you weren't a conf champ of something called the SEC.  the SEC made all the other conferences think they needed to schedule a big OOC.

The biggest problem though is we have had 2 solid 10 year periods in the last 40 years where we were a clusterfuck.  one was epic scale cheating/with mid coaching and the other was incompetency at the HC position.

now the MNC is actually an NC and that is the main goal and to do that you have to get into the tourney.  Yes winning the conf is nice, probably gets you a bye, but as it has always been, you have to minimize the number of losses.  before LSU there were zero instances of a team winning the NC with 2 losses BEFORE the bowl game. as an at large, with the unbalanced schedules in the superconference era, you will need to have less than 3(before CCG)90% of the time to make the 7 at large spots.

It would be silly to play games that are a coin flip or worse, when you get to choose the opponent and SOS doesn't matter.

I don’t share this as comparison to the BIGSEC - I share because BYU should ALREADY be ranked ahead of ND !!!!

But as it stands, the only drama on CCG Saturday is the Big12 game because of BYU’s #11 rank

College football is a TeeVee show and nothing more!!

Except for the fact that, you know, one team beat the other on the field and has the exact same record with a near identical strength of schedule. Notre Dame should be ranked 15th

I wouldn’t like that one team would be playing in a CCG and two wouldn’t but a debate between BYU, Miami, and Texas for the final spot would be more honest than just giving it to ND

In September. At home. By a field goal.

Miami has the h2h but they have the worse losses. If they were both 11-1 then the h2h would mean more.

This has been discussed (and disproven) ad nauseam. It's not about who Texas lost to, it's the fact that there is a 3 in the loss column. There is no reason for Texas to be ranked below OU, Alabama, Notre Dame, or Miami, for example, other than the number 3. A win against any one of Florida, Ohio St or Georgia, and Texas is in. It's fine if that is is the criteria, it is what it is. But coaches and athletic directors probably shouldn't proactively increase their odds of suffering additional losses.

The problem for Texas is the argument is about 12 games, SOS, and quality wins. You have to take a comprehensive look at their resume. Sports is not good at that in general. People want to latch on to something like worst loss (Florida) or best (win). That is what gains traction on social media. Texas beats Florida that are in. Texas gets an easy W by swapping out the OSU game, they are in. Beats Georgia, Texas is in. All 3 of those statements are correct, but people will hang on to the Florida loss because that is what they heard from the media. There is no use arguing. They are going to continue to repeat, what they have been told.
