My freshman year I was at military school (MMA) and we beat Harlingen and McAllen High the same year.  I was on JV but suited out.  There was brawl between our cadets and Harlingen students at the end of the game.  Fun times. I think that was the best team MMA ever had.  We had it loaded with 19 year old post-grad students who were trying to qualify for college football academically.  No idea why big public schools would agree to playing us like that.

There used to be a group of well-heeled MMA alum with local clout who made that game happen for years. HHS wanted to drop it for a long time when MMA was uncompetitive. Then MMA pulled the prep school shit with D1 recruits who were 19 or 20 and that was enough. They couldn’t get a game in the valley for years and weren’t even allowed in the private league.

They did it in hoops too, one year y’all had two seven foot Nigerian prospects on the team.

Drip 41-14 over Vandegrift!!

We ran into Dripping Springs in the playoffs last year. Seemed like every one of their players was 6’5”.

Allen stomped Midland LEEgacy 46-13. Word is Allen looks good. I'm sure North Crowley will be their nemesis again this year.

I hope that Midland school never wins another game.

Longview spotted Lufkin 14 points within the first 4 or so mins. They then decide to play and went on to win 41-2.

Rough week 1 for Austin area powers: Round Rock, Vandegrift, Cedar Park, Westlake all go down

Don't forget Austin High (The original Austin area power) - got beat 47-3 by Canyons (obviously I am joking about AHS being on same tier as those other teams.

On different note - Holy Shit at Drip curb stomping Vandegrift. From winning state to getting face raped week 1. I am hoping that is a harbinger of what Texas does to Ohio State today

I'll summarize our game:

First half: Someone call the police called Westlake got robbed.

Second half: Someone call the police called Westlake got robbed.

Drip looked really good.  Expectations were down this year because they lost a ton of talent.  I'm obviously biased, but they had a great game plan and executed well.  Defense had Teodecki (K-State commit) confused all night and he couldn't get in a rhythm.  Great run-pass balance on offense kept Vandegrift's defense on its toes.  They had a few mistakes on the O-Line and that TD they gave up at the end of the first half showed signs of fatigue, but they bounced back incredibly well in the second half.

The biggest play that doesn't show up in the box score was a fluky deal in early Q3 when they were up 20-14.  Starting center goes down with an injury.  Second snap from the backup center goes almost completely over QB Ames's head.  He's able to JUST BARELY get a hand on the ball, and they're able to fall on it.  If that goes completely over his head, it brings a turnover into the conversation.  Next play is a false start.  So, 3rd and 25 from their own 10.  Instead of being conservative and running the ball up the middle, taking your medicine and punting, they dial up a wheel route to RB Gotta for 52 yards.  Punched it in a few plays later.  HUGE swing in momentum.

My son is a senior baseball player at Drip.  So, he's grown up with / played sports with most of these kids.  If they stay healthy, this could be a fun season.
