What difference does it make? Arch was consistently inaccurate hitting open receives on short/medium routes. He rarely had his feet set. I never expected the problems I saw today. This is very concerning.

Same. The 109 mph passes to WRs 7’ away is as bjg as a problem as bouncing a ball 10” in front of a WR constantly.

The national championship team that hired a multi super bowl winning DC? Yeah they are dogshit

The national championship program. Not team. I get that they're still ultra talented, but they're breaking in a lot of new faces and Texas had the more experienced QB and more overall continuity on staff. If this game was in November, different story, but the fact that they couldn't get the job done against them early on doesn't inspire confidence for later in the year.

A buddy that lives out of state just sent me a message saying “Sark needs to call plays like Mannint isn’t Ewers”.

that is so true.

Been saying it all game. He ran the manning offense with Ewers last year, he’s running the Ewers offense with manning so far this year.

As bad as Arch was today I have to hang the majority of this on Sark, that was the most bland, vanilla, shriveled testicles gameplan I've seen since he's been here. Arch HAS to hit the short/intermediate stuff though, no reason at 6'4" 220 he's throwing short passes at guy's feet and behind them.

Also, we really need Wingo and Moore to step up in a big way.

Sark cant win in the Big game.  He goes turtle tom.  He wins the rest but unless he changes we wont win a championship with him turtling in first half and in the redzone of big games.  Georgia twice and Ohio State twice.  0-4.  He needs an OC cause his balls shrink to nothing in big games.

Why is every big game defined as the ones we lose?

Cool. So Arch fucked up some throws that would have picked up some 1st downs… and eventually got us to the red zone where Sark could fuck it up like he consistently showed today

What did you want him to do? Skip another throw to Baxter in the flats fucking up Manning even more it try to power it up the middle?

I think the question is why do we lose every big game

Maybe roll out the big fast guy and give him a run pass option

this is one of the best teams Horns will face all year. I think we drop at least one more – probably Georgia or Florida. But as long as we're one of the playoff teams at the end, anything can happen. The offense will improve and the defense looks sick. And we have a punter.

fuck you for your big font.  You're a fucking nobody. What you have to say isn't important enough to make it billboard-sized.

Hope we simplify it to the chuck it deep offense before Florida

Sark won a national title with that offense.

run the ball, throw deep.

This. Looked a LOT like Quinn, but with less accuracy.

Focus on this point for a minute. How many times have we seen mediocre teams play Texas over the last several years where they methodically throw short passes and work their way down the field against our defense: short curls, slants, screens, outs, etc.

Those teams don’t have 4-5 star receivers. They have a scheme to sit in the open areas of zone coverage, or run specific routes that are geared towards beating man, like the slant.

The lack of effective scheme and game planning is why the offense was bad, and then with Arch throwing poorly and receivers not getting separation on the wrong routes, the offense was putrid.

Those teams also rely on their QBs to take the easy throw and continually move the chains. Arch was nowhere near that and his accuracy on easy design throws was truly atrocious.

what scheme works when your QB can’t throw a mesh or a screen route consistently?

And miss the throw like the rest of the night.. yeah, that would have helped Manning

The first TD drive was ABSOLUTELY ref ball.

You can’t rip the offensive lineman’s helmet off. That’s going to get called. The hip hook on Smith could have been a no call given the quarterback was scrambling, but he was still behind the line and could reasonably be expected to hit a receiver that could get open. that play is never an issue but for the hands to the face

Or walk into the end zone from one yard away. Like the other runs he had outside the pocket. Do you understand how the red zone works?

I already said it in this thread. I want him to call four fucking run plays in a row when it’s 1st and goal inside the 10.  And your stud RBs need to get at least 3 of those carries. You know, the position whose primary job is to run the damn ball. Not three qb runs

This is 2010 Garrett GILBERT level of execution

Did Gilbert get all this hype by the 9.95ers before the season too? Didn’t pay attention back then like now.

All of them were hyping manning up like he’s the real deal. Not saying he still can’t be but I did expect better.

Were we gaslighted?

Granted this is the first game of the season and it was only 14-7. (Surprisingly) I think it can only get better. It’s not like tOSU is Michigan from last year. They reload consistently. It seemed like sayin has more of a bright future and was concerning that this is manning 3rd season here so I would’ve thought he would’ve looked a bit better. Idk if tOSU just schemed better for sayin than Texas did or because he actually has legit wrs or all the above

Makes a huge difference. Look how throwing quick hitters early helped Sayin do.

Arch was missing those “get him comfortable throws” in the first series. He wasn’t super accurate last year on short stuff. It was even worse this game. But running game and blocking was better than expected and defense was nails and punter was pinning them deep. If Arch is even average in subsequent games, it’s going to be a very a good year.

Yes. This is a big concern.  Ewers given the time Arch was given today was clutch.  Hate the kid all you want, but still, this is an issue that has to be cleaned up

Shout out to the defense, it's unfortunate that a great effort by them got wasted. Also shout out to Tre Wisner, who continues to be our most (only?) consistent player on offense.

Tre is kind of infuriating to me. It’s like ugly-effective but always feels high-risk. Give me Baxter’s 1-cut north-south style all day

Not utilizing designed runs with arch early in the game was shockingly inept

No one should commit seppuku after today’s result.   First game of the season.  Against the defending national champ who is still a consensus top 5 team.  At their house.  Pressure of first ever preseason #1 ranking.

There was a serious headwind to fight against today and we lost by 7 with two failed red zone series.

Sucks, but shit happens.  Go win the rest of them.

There was no walking into the end zone today.. if you think arch would have hit any pass guaranteed today, go back and watch the game

Hey Sark, next time it’s 1st and goal, I’m good if you wanna try to run it four times to hit paydirt. But for the love of fucking god give it to your RUNNINGBACK more than once. You dope.

Especially when on the same drive they are picking up 4 to 6 yards per carry.  It’s insane!

If you think arch couldn’t roll out and run to the pylon with zero defensive players outside the box then you should just sit this one out. And I said nothing about hitting any pass

He's an odd player. He never looks impressive while doing it, but he's effective. He had 16 carries for 80 yards today. That's 5 ypc.

I'm guessing many will neg me for this, and maybe I'm just justifying a stupid gameplan; and I'm not saying Sark didn't want to win. But, that was about as vanilla as I've ever seen Sark be. He knows winning the SEC is more important than a win or loss today, that will have zero bearing on our season if we do. Maybe he didn't want to showcase our full offense to the rest of the conference. 4D chess.  Again, maybe I'm an idiot and justifying Sark also being an idiot.

Did ant hill record a tackle today? Their oline owned our defense. Not what I expected. How did Taffe not block that 4th quarter punt?

The qb sneak on 4th and goal was stupid.

The next 3 cupcakes should help.

He generally gets about what the play was blocked for. Baxter is clearly battling and that's awesome but he's far from 100%. I can't wait to see Christian Clark and James Simon.
